That M1 sounds absolutely incredible! And the funny car is purely insane (in a good way :D)

Whilst we are still on the subject of 6 cylinders:

The RSR Porsches are the best of both worlds: Beautiful car, beautiful sound.

The 6-cyl Impreza was also very impressing.

Now, keeping with the theme of 6-cylinder cars, I present to you the Acura NSX:

Agreed. I love when a truck beats something you would expect to be faster, like a Corvette.

I know, I think it's awesome. I see it happen all the time at my local drag strip. One of the reasons why I go every week!!

Redneck stage 3 weight reduction FTW!:D

It makes me wonder what my truck could do now....probably slow as all hell. Used to be wicked fast, 7.2s in the 1/8th which is an 11 flat give or take a few thousandths in the 1/4 mile. Anyways, here's another for your enjoyment.

.30 over stock 460

Near stock 351 windsor.

Some nice sounding turbo machines, the 1JZ sounds evil.

I had to post this, sorry if it's a repost but it's my favourite sounding car.

Here's a V8, well technically it's a V4, but who cares when it sounds like one?

That sounds nothing like a V8.
How about an inline 4 that sounds like a v8? Sounds best with no can.

Sounds a bit like a high idle V8 but revving not even close.

Doubt many will agree with you about the revving, with no can on it sounds like a mental highly tuned v8.

Check the videos I posted above.

Or just watch this.

8,000rpm on a highly modified Ford 289. Still not even close. This is what a V8 should sound like with the idle I posted a few posts above (ironically enough its the same engine and a different crank) IMO.

Sorry but that's the worst sounding v8 I ever heard. The idle in the videos you posted is a lazy american v8, not all v8s sound like that. Either way I didn't say it sounds exactly like a v8 in every possible way. I said it sounds like a v8, which for an inline 4 it does.

Here's a video so you know all v8s don't sound like you think they should.

I'm aware they don't sound like what I posted and I beg to differ about it being lazy, and also that is idle. They make a lot of torque. If you don't like it, fine, that is your opinion but that is how most American v8s sound and have for the last 70 years and will continue to. I grew up with 2 sitting in my driveway and they sound great and make a lot of power.

I didn't mean to give the impression I don't like american v8 sounds, I like the idle sounds you posted and that green pick up sounds great too. By lazy I mean they idle low and still sound like they're pretty much idling when revving high. But as you can hear the v8 in that video I posted sound nothing like the v8 you like. They Idle high, rev high and respond quickly, much like the bike I posted.

You must remember, the green truck is slightly modded and what you posted has no intention of being on the street. The cams in that motor are very agressive and require idling high to avoid extreme valve overlap. That is a common thing with American V8s that have performance cams. I don't agree that they sound like idling when revving high but I guess when you growing up around a lumping V8, you tend to not tack into account others in the world so much and everything is set to a standard by what you live with. Everyone has a preference. Mine just happens to be a low, gurgling, steady blub blub blub blub blub sound.

The fact those are race cars has nothing to do with it, they still have a v8 engine. I understand it may not sound like the v8's you are used to, but that doesn't change the bike sounding like a v8. It's an inline 4 with a crossplane crank and that's why it sounds that way.
Yes everything is relative to what you experienced. I'm used to high revving engines, so that's why I said the idling while revving comment, but I thought it was obvious I was just exaggerating a bit. What I prefer a v8 to sound like depends on what car it's in. I like most engine sounds, besides v twin 4 stroke engines.

Oh you replied before I finished editing, lol. 👍

Super bike engines are pretty much race engines as far as car engines are concerned, so it's bound to sound more like a racing v8.

It does though. A street cam will idle much lower, a considerable amount at that, than a engine built strictly for racing. An engine built for racing will not run under a certain RPM, be it 1,000, 2,000 or more, cam depending. A street engine idles depending on carb or ECU setup and has several idle speeds. Take my pickup for example, it idles above 1,000rpm at high idle. Tap the gas and it kicks down to 800. Put it in gear and it drops to 400. Perfect for using it for what we use it for as most of its power is made under 4,000rpm.

Again unlike me, I think a big loud lumpy V8 makes everything sound better. This again is my opinion.

I do see your point however, so fair enough. V8s sound different depending on the brand, parts etc. 👍

@ eight6er

I may have posted this before but God I love 351 Clevelands, sounds similar to the one I posted earlier but totally different motors. He isn't really getting on the gas either.

Bone stock 351C from 1971 in a 1967 Cougar, low compression motor (not one of the high performance stock ones.) Language warning in this one.

Stock drag race. 351C small block V8.

They sound nice:tup: but I'm amazed you never heard the term lazy v8 before. Maybe it's just a term Europeans use.

Here's a clip of an AE86 with a loud exhaust, so you can hear the difference in sound between intake and exhaust.

I think the v8 in this mustang sounds decent.
