Yeah because surely anyone that has a problem with Gran Turismo must just be a hater or a troll that wants to see the franchise fail and send Polyphony bankrupt...
Well to be honest not really. I can understand why people got disappointed with this franchise, even including myself. In the extremes, an extremely biased fans can be as much annoying as the unconstructive criticism.

Its just with all the negative receptions, I had less confidence that this franchise can be as successful as it could be. Cant blame anyone further as PD really bring themselves this time.

If anyone has a problem with the negativity, they shouldn't be in "the epic whining and crying thread".

As for the franchise not being as successful as it could be, I think honestly the GT franchise has been far more successful than it really deserves to be. The last two games, whilst decent in their own right, aren't as good as some games that have sold a tiny fraction of what they have.

GT still sells big numbers just because it's GT. GT Sport will be no different. It might not sell as much as GT6, and surely won't sell as much as GT5, but it will still sell a lot more than it should. I guarantee a large percentage of buyers will buy it simply because it says GT on the box, and they'll quickly be turned off by the online only nature of it, and either return it, or just sit it on a shelf. The game might sell 5 million copies, but I doubt more than a tenth of those play the game more than a month or two.

I bet most of you will be happy if this franchise gone tank and PD gone bankrupt.

The last part of your post is how I think it will work out for another game.

I have no issue with Assetto Corsa.
My pre-order still waits patiently for me to collect it.

But if I could predict the future, I see AC hitting the bargin bin very early, courtesy of endless copies being returned after a very short time from those who walk into a store and buy it.

At the end of the day, from what I've read, AC's online isn't appreciated.
And when looking at what AC has to offer, there aren't even any leaderboards for hot-laps.

There are many other things I could mention, but with online gaming being so prevalent these days, the lack of these two simple, and expected, things will kill AC sales.

So from where I'm sitting, AC isn't going to get anywhere near to what you suggest is a fail for GT.

But what's most laughable to me is that we're talking about a prologue, and not a full title;

People are still hanging on to this? GT Sport is a full game. PD (like many Japanese companies) just have a horrible internal productivity rate and won't outsource anything. T10 and other companies get huge amounts of modelling done with outsourcing. I'm not happy about it but it's better to accept the truth.

Well, don't underestimate how much of the words "Gran Turismo" (for a game) is ingrained into people's minds who have played before the previous series...

Like what Mike_grpA said

buyers will buy it simply because it says GT on the box

Even though there are evidence of this being a "full" game, I still treat it as a prologue and the "evidence" to be just marketing trick/terms (honestly)....... then again i guess different people see things differently....

Well whether someone here, who has access to all the information available for GT Sport, thinks this is a full title or a prologue, is irrelevant to 99% of the potential buyers, as they won't be trawling the internet for info about the game.

I know anecdotes aren't evidence of anything, but bear with me here. I've had a few close mates tell me things along the lines of "Hey, you gonna get that new Gran Turismo?" or "can't wait 'till the new Gran Turismo comes out". Now, of all my friends, not a lot of them are gamers, and of those that are, not many are car nuts like myself, so only a few of my friends would ever consider buying racing sims, so only a few of my mates have spoken to me about GTS. One who asked if I was buying it was shocked when I said "nah, don't reckon mate", because he knows how much I'm into racing in general. He asked why, and I told him the game was essentially online only, and very light on content compared to any other GT game, and he said "what, really? Oh **** that then. I was gonna buy it, but it doesn't even sound like a Gran Turismo game. Glad I asked you".

Another mate who was telling me he was keen for it to come out, I asked why, and he didn't know a single thing about the game either. I filled him in on what I knew about it, and he too was instantly turned off the idea, and said "jeez, maybe I should get an X Box and just buy a wheel for Forza" (he hadn't bought a wheel for his PS4 yet, but was planning to). I've had a couple of other conversations similar to the two above, with other mates.

Now, these guys to me, represent the average GT buyer. They're not hard core sim fans, they're car guys who are also casual gamers. They don't follow the development of these games, or even look for info about them. They just see "new GT game coming soon" and think, "yeah, I've always liked GT games, I might pick that one up when it comes out". They were both completely turned off buying GTS when I told them what it actually was, so this is why I'm willing to bet there will be a large majority who will simply buy it because of the name, without knowing anything about it, and then be immediately disappointed because it's not a typical GT game.

In outright sales numbers GTS will be successful, but in making fans of the franchise happy, I don't think it'll do too well.

If I were one of the Sony execs right now, I would probably take Kaz aside and tell him that his seat on the board may be revoked if he doesn't get his crap together and release a game on time that isn't also completely broken.

Given this current situation, his status, the number of outside events he have, his relationships with manufacturers and his know-how/ his vision for GT, IMO before the next GT version, he should have handed over the rein to another group (whether it is internal or external one) and relegate to becoming an adviser/ ambassador...

@Mike_grpA, although i agree with your perspective, but until everyone, regardless whether he is a fan of the series ,knows what GT sport is about or he is "duped" to buy the game, gets/play the final game, he may or may not like the game....there is still a chance that the majority of the players are happy/ open to this new concept of GT....

My 2 cents worth bet is it will go to extreme ends (extremely right or left skewed), which means no 3 out of 5 for rating

I know PD is focussing on GTSport. But how much so that entire current GT6 seasonals is a repeat of the events from months ago?

Many offline players will in for a ride awakening with Campaign mode. It will still be locked racing. No randomness whatsoever.

Since PD don't look at other games, GT6 missed out on making the Championship's tracks random in "Career Mode" like how FM4 did. Endless play.

I'm going to try and jump start my question again, who thinks Sony will finally step in and restructure their aid for PD? It's pretty clear now that they are pumping millions into a studio that does not deliver the goods anymore.

Never mind that, they need to restructure their new ps4 line first!

I honestly think they would have been better off keeping Evolution. PD still has some amazing talent, but there are obviously some fundamental issues within the studio, most likely at the management level, because they just aren't producing anywhere near the amount of work they should be for a studio of their size and budget.

I agree, but I think it's not so much that they aren't producing the amount of work they should be, more so that too much time is spent detailing said work & there's not enough man power to keep consistent quality. How much detail do rear seats really need?

It's that kind of detail that millions of games to casual players and some hardcore players too, among other things. When the game is released, they'll be able to show the most incredible, lifelike car photos and trailers that have ever been seen in any game, certainly on any console but including pc games too with their advanced lighting system. It may not be necessary per se, certainly not to someone like me who doesn't take photos unless he has to and doesn't care about hyper detail, but the casual players will eat this stuff up.

It's nice and all, & I have no doubt people go crazy over it. But, what happens when one gets done taking photos of this BMW, and finds a car they like, but it's a Standard? Becomes a bummer of sorts knowing the quality isn't the same across the board, and then you get eyebrows when you find a car available in both Premium & Standard; who thought that was a good idea?

The worst thing about this picture is that PD put so much effort into making the interiors look incredibly detailed, but we still can't look around in the cockpit.

This! And you cant even rotate the camera around the car in chase view to adore the Premium beauty. I always wondered why so much afford to the modeling when in game you can't even enjoy it at all. In Cockpit cant look up and down to spot all the details they created. Still baffles me.:confused::confused:

We don't know that this is the case in GTSport though.

This is far from the worst thing about it. The worst is that it, and all other premium cars with equivalent quality, got thrown into the trash for good. They were not "Super premiums" were they told.

I really don't believe this. Kaz may have said it, but he's also mentioned some ridiculous numbers of cars to come after release. The only realistic way for them to do that is to work from the premium models. I think we'll see most of those cars back before too long.
