The GT Sport Epic Whining and Crying Thread

I guess and I beleive most of us have misguided or forgotten, GT Sport was never intended nor set out to be the replacement/new (normal) Granturismo but an entirely new concept. Hence the "sport" and placing it in the spotlight as an e-sport platform for motor racing.

Now my biggest gripe is why couldn't a general Granturismo 7 be made, including the typical GT career mode, parts upgrading and buying etc, and just incorporate the "sport mode" within the game. Such as arcade mode has always sat alonside the GT mode?

Although as I pondered, this could be due to Polyphony Digital potentially having financial difficulties, hence the short track list and car list etc, with unpolished tracks (some have brought up). GT Sport could have been a sales/marketing tatic to push something out into the market to capitalise somewhat within the PS4 era. As a new Granturismo IP and reapthe rewards from the typical Granturismo hype.

Re;

As a friend said to me, "GT Sport is basically a prologue."

All of it is explained by PD incompetence, Kaz's incompetence.

GT is Sony's biggest, well was their biggest franchise. No its not financial difficulties or any other issues. It's just incompetence of the developer.

I was late getting to this game (out of town the whole week of release), and just have a few hours of play time in now... I haven't combed through all of this thread so not sure if this has been suggested before, but I have a theory on why the traditional career path was not implemented:

First with a known focus on "esport" (somewhat debatable, but I think understandable as an area of focus moving into the future) they may have wanted to eliminate the variety of ways to modify/upgrade cars for something cleaner, better suited to determining your racing talent than your "modding talent" (you can still work on tuning a particular car for a particular track, but you don't have to worry as much about trying high horsepower vs low weight, setups, upgrading via exhaust vs ecu vs forced induction, etc... as this would make it more difficult to discern who the truly better drivers are, vs who got lucky or spent more time with modding for a particular car/track combo... you can already spend enough time tuning as is).

However, in doing that, you kinda botch the traditional career mode, where if you were too slow to win a particular race you could previously (especially early on when low on cash) throw on a new exhaust or whatever and start working your way through it. It would feel dumb to simply say well I'm too slow to win this series so I'll buy/adjust some unknown upgrade that boosts performance, kinda like just dialing back the difficulty setting (as a relevant side note: it's one of the things I love/hate about Project Cars... the single player racing entirely comes down to what you have the difficulty set at, and it can feel a bit lame/pointless because of this, it just takes some edge off the challenge [at least for me] because you're making it up yourself...). Or if you really limit the amount of modding, then you require more variety of cars to allow people to win their way through the lower series (just not a feasible option for PD to implement since they want extremely detailed models).

I wouldn't be surprised if they had internally tested some variations on a traditional career mode, but it just didn't feel right within the new modding allowances and variety of cars available, so they scrapped it.

Personally I like the new direction and hope that it isn't off putting to the point where it hurts the series. Although if it is, they could always pivot away from the esports focus back to the more traditional approach. It seems most of the engine is in place to put together a "Gran Turismo 7" that takes the current framework but adds in a wide variety of modding capabilities and single player career series.

So you’re telling me that a car that is PS4 quality almost all the way around, yet has no interior, is a standard car?

right ok
Actually No Interior is one of the features of standard cars, and if PD are projecting and producing 500 DLC cars with many of them or any percent of them having no cockpit interior. This will be A big problem for many GT fans, myself included.

You do realise there's around 400+ GT6 premiums that could be touched up if PD uses them as DLC right?

So the issues with low speed tyre physics from GT6 are back, which is annoying given that back in the Copper Box build they were fixed

Come on PD, give us back that build.

I feel like some of the cars have been left out on purpose for a couple reasons. 1) The community would dig them all the time about not having DLC for GT5/6. They more they leave out the more they have for DLC later. 2) It takes time to develop/model/render these cars. I don't know the polycount for these but I assume it is not as trivial as a "standard" used to be. I would think, and maybe that's my mistake, that if they delayed again to puff the car list...well you know where I'm going with that. Agree on career mode though, I do wish that was longer. Maybe they'll add to that too? Mission challenges currently only go to Intermediate....

TLDR, hoping that the garage and other features are expanded in the years to come as they gain licenses and add new series. Would love for Super GT to make a quick come back; not going to hold my breath for open wheeled something but I can dream. :)

I dont beleive time to model cars can really be used as a timeframe excuse or a issue these days.

Given it took like 10 years to produce Toy Story (first CGI movie) and now they can be produced within a year and at much higher quality given the advances of computer technology. Modeling a game i feel should be of little difference?

All of it is explained by PD incompetence, Kaz's incompetence.

True, true. I didnt even think of that.

Not sure if that is possible as Kaz has said that GTS runs on completely new assets that are rendered differently from previous games.

Thats marketing BS. Why take 400 x 3D models that look/race/feel/handle great and are loved and respected by your 20 year loyal community then toss them into the garbage? PS4 is capable of higher polygon counts for sure and adding more points of reference to render smoother models but you can just make an existing 3D model more detailed in any 3D modeling program. This modern catch phrase 'built from the ground up' isn't by definition a good thing. Especially when you already have great cars in the older games! I personally DGAC about what any of the cars look like but what they sound and FEEL like (especially sound) , within reason. The models in GT6 were fine for me. Why on earth PD cant release a GT6 REMASTER for PS4 is beyond me. It would go #1 fo a month! Some people like this Kaz need to realize there is no shame in their best work being in the past, and stop forcing people to accept re-inventions of the wheel they never asked for and dont need.
Talking of wheels, you dont take the long-established ROUND one, burn it then sell a SQUARE one and expect it to impress people just by telling them its 'built from the ground up'!

Some of my *MAJOR* complaints about GT Sport:

-Too much Vision GT cars, and lack of production cars. (Especially, classic cars. That, and cars nobody hears of, outside of Japan and other countries.)

-Lack of tracks, both Old-School original tracks (like, Trial Mountain & Deep Forest Raceway) and real-life tracks (i.e. Fuji Speedway, Laguna Seca, Cote D’Azur...)

-The lack of selection, for obtaining Daily Workshop vehicles. (Based on my experience, in the Second Beta demo. Had nothing, but useless vehicles, like the GT by Citroen GT4 and Hyundai N 2025 VGT.)

-The Sacrificing of Career Mode, for *shutter* Sport Mode...

-Lack of punishment & restrictions, for drivers who are too Gung-Ho in online races. (In GT6, when a player starts to cut corners and ram people, the previous penalty system forces them to slow down and turns them into a Ghost. And, I miss that... Now, certain players don’t care about the amount of penalties they have; just bum-rush everyone/everything in their sight, and still lose, thus rage quitting. All because, Polyphony thinks all of the players would respect one another, and turned off the GT6/GT5 “Ghost Penalty” system for GT Sport.)

-Online Saving (Completely unfair, for players who don’t even play online, or don’t have a PSN account in the first place. Thus, making the game; “Need For Speed (2015) 2.0: SHIFT Edition”, yet EA/Ghost Studios can’t make a simulator-based NFS installment this amazing, compared to Simply Mad Studios developing the Shift sequels.)

-Racing Etiquette (Completely useless, for drivers who want to just bum-rush the entire race, and rage quit, when they are dead-last and/or spun-out of control.)

-New, revamped Physics (Again, in my experience in both of the Beta Tests, I’ve witnessed that RWD vehicles are more unforgiving, compared to 4WD cars. And, FWD cars, like the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo and RenaultSport Megane R.S. Trophy, feel like they don’t want to corner at all. Personally, I think, it’s my settings and how I “modify” them. Oh, and speaking of modifications...)

-Lack Of “Actual” Modifications (Back in the days of GT6/GT5, we used to make crazy mods in our cars; Turbos/Superchargers, Weight Reductions, Custom Rear Spoilers, et cetera... But now, we are forced to “level up” cars, like they’re Pokémon or something. I say, Toyota has something to do with this, since they refused video game developers to modify their classic cars, like Supra and AE86. But, at least, we can change tires and wheels. *sobs quietly*)

-Lastly, and also relating to tracks, no actual point-to-point races in GT Sport. (No, I’m not talking about Custom Tracks, nor Goodwood Hill Climb 2013-2014. I’m talking about original, WRC-inspired, point-to-point tracks in GT Sport. And, I’m too impatient to wait for Pikes Peak, to come in a future installment. Also, the utter irony that BigBen Interactive has the rights for the WRC game installments, yet GT Sport doesn’t have any WRC-homologated vehicles, despite Polyphony teaming up with the FIA-committee. Just, generic, souped-up, off-road versions of standard N-Class cars.
But, this complaint is generally towards, most installments in Gran Turismo, overall.)

Seeing my prejudice towards GT Sport shows, how much I miss the old-school GT. That’s why, I still play GT6. That, and also going little bit off-topic, play Tourist Trophy and (almost) every one of Milestone S.r.l’s racing games. Because of my love of motorcycles and my curious knowledge of niche vehicles, that why I love to play Milestone S.r.l’s games, because they remind me of Polyphony, back when Gran Turismo was filled with love and knowledge, not the corrupted ESports/FIA-partnered money-maker, we see before now.

So, until I see some extra content in GT Sport (i.e. older cars, extra tracks, legitimate modifications...), I refuse to be part of this future of Gran Turismo and continue to be clouded with nostalgia, and proud of it.

It looks like races have changed finally from weekly to daily after a lot of complaints. Not a good move at all for the more experienced drivers wanting to get more from it.

Those that wanted it changed to daily, may I say that you probably aren't trying hard enough because there is a universe of material in each event where several hours per week spent on each by even the very, very good drivers who know what they are doing is minimal.

👎

I struggled with 29 too. But, I figured out why.

In GT6, when taking the left hander, you wouldn't get on the curb as it was rather unsettling, but as soon as I tried that in gt sport, it wasn't unsettling and meant my corner speed was quicker and the gold came straight away.[/QUOT

I did try driving over curbs Hatfield at first I didn't but later I was cutting as much as I could get away with still got no where near.
I think I am past it when it comes to it, Congrats on getting your gold. My ps4 is now back to being a glorified dvd player

Grr... I hate that some tracks are locked until you reach lvl.20

Take our advice, and do Circuit Experience. It's a very easy thing to check off (three hours, tops), and it should get you most of the way to Level 20 on its own. Plus, you get a prize spin after golding each track. Sure, it's all based on luck, but chances are you'll end up with a few good rides. 👍

Reminded me of Assetto Corsa when you finally had a chance to invite friends for clean racing, but you get answer "i have no tune...." :ouch:

Should be able to save car's tune for every track instead of having only 3 sheets.

I was just thinking of this today, all of that work on those premium cars and then they go and left them out of this game. I thought the point of making those models so detailed was to 'future proof' them but now they're all gone again. I'm warming up to the game a bit but the lack of cars is so frustrating.

@BigJimmy
I see a pattern devoloping now; the car people get bored quickly of the same event (1-2 days?). The racing people might get bored after a week.

I'm sure they are monitoring server usage, so I hope there are events to keep both groups happy shortly.
@Knukel
Brilliant you now have 8 setup saves and can compare side by side, plus you can screen dump and share 'em with your mates to save heaps of time.

Before I get into my issues with this game I want to start out with saying I really like so much about it.

No pedal calibration ARRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!! First my accelerator wasn't going to 100% so I had to pull my pedals apart, now my brake is dragging. This isn't an issue in other games because I can set deadzone in those and the brake feels better in all those too because I can also set sensitivity. Please fix this PD.

What's up with the lack of grip and how quickly the tyres overheat? I've been abusing tyres in real life for 25 years and I've never driven on tyres this rubbish with so little grip and that overheat and completely lose their grip so quickly. It's worse than iRacing sometimes. The crazy part is how good the game drives apart from this so it really looks like a small tweak could make this game incredible and I think some of the reviews would have been so different if the grip was right.

Clutch/manual shifting. Come on PD, how can you think this rubbish is acceptable in a premier sim in 2017? Go Play PC2, they don't do much right but they nailed the shifting, that is how shifting should be done in 2017.

I need a place to vent ABOUT THIS ****ING RALLY ****!!!!!!!

can I do this here?
If there is a thread for it, this is it!

I look forward to your rant as I think this rubbish should have been left in the old games, it really feels out of place in this game as it is so poorly done compare to the rest of the game.

All I want to know is where are the cars that won at that Pebble beach car award show (or whatever it's called) and would get added to Gran Turismo. Where are they????!!!!!
