Would anyone be interested in a sort of WRS "GT4 warm up race" until we make the full switch to GT4?

I was actually thinking the same thing, earlier - I was just afraid of suggesting it.
It would be cool if we could have a pre-WRS or an intro-WRS for GT4 and the people that already have it :D

As for the car and track suggestion:
1) anything that's half-way fast, not extremely slow
2) any track that's not a city course - the physics are a lot harder in GT4 and if you combine that with an impossible course, then it's just not fun anymore ;) I would save the city courses for later, once people learn to know them better.

...before us Euro's get it..
Somehow I've always thought you were living in the region of Seattle

Could you consider selecting a car and track that is available in GT4P? This way at least some of us can join in the fun in some form.
I second this.

Kent, are you planning on re-qualifying everyone? I think it would be a decent idea since it's a new game, with new physics. It would also give us something to do while we wait for everyone to get a copy. And as a last point, Div 1 and 2 are a bit too crowded IMO. People should be redistributed a bit methinks. Just my two cents, make of it what you will.

BTW - 78 gold licenses, only 2 to go to get my Ford Model T.:D

i agree with CFM, on re doing the WRS qualification, but dont annonce the test until a week after us PAL guys, as NTSC will have too much pratisce on it and we wont have a chance

That would definitely be a good idea, CFM. I think the system need to be redesigned a little. Too many people in the first 2 divisions, hardly anybody (that competes, at least) in the 3rd division. I agree with redoing the qualifying, as the physics from GT4 are a lot different than the physics from GT3, and people that couldn't cut it in GT3 could (maybe) drive a little better with the new physics and vice versa.

It would be cool if for the qualifying Kent picked the same track+car combination (Midfield and Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VII GSR).

This way he could post some sort of a table to show how each individual result compares, between GT3 and GT4. The track is fairly similar, some minor changes have been made here and there, but I think it would be interesting to see how everybody's submitted times differ from GT3 qualification run to GT4 qualification run.

I also agree with this, though:

It's only fair that everybody is given the same amount of time to do their qualification runs.

Personally, I thought this combo was all wrong. IMO, the heart of performance driving is Front Engine / Rear wheel drive. There are great cars that use other layouts of course, but FR is THE classic example of a sports car in my book. If we re-qualify again, any track will do but make it FR please.:)

Well, I see your point. But my point (;)) was to keep the same combination just to see how same car + same track (approximately) + new physics of GT4 compare to the GT3 combination. Just for the sake of statistics :D I like stuff like that.

But for that scenario, we could always do a GT4 WRS race that has the same specs of a GT3 WRS race that was run in the past - this way we could compare as well.

Anyway, no point in arguing about this stuff, as Kent will ultimately be the one that decides it all :D
We are just giving him ideas/matters to think about :sly:

are you gonna change the name at all, or will it still be wrs 110 even though 109 was gt3 and 110 is gt4? (note numbers are made up)

I hope that the numbers continue when the switch is there.
The WRS is probably the longest race serie in internetcountry.

Would anyone object to me starting a poll for the warm up race track/car selection? I would do it in the spot-race forum until Kent would agree to make it part of the WRS 👍.

I honestly like the idea of recalibrating the Divisions to a new test, but nothing way out there. Especially nothing like IA-16 (Merc-190E @ Nurburging.)

I hate that test, I was 6 minutes into it and then I went onto the grass. :(

I think it's time we got the WRS started for GT4, atleast a few weeks of warmup racing?

Bad idea.
We had several discussions about chancing the WRS in the past.
Leave it as it is.

Again, nothing will change with a new game.
Only the tracks and the cars.

Actually I would support running a brand new GT4 qualification race.
That would change much every week's result, since fast drivers will remain fast and slow drivers will remain slow, but that would be some sort of a milestone, to make it clear that we've switched to something new.

flat-out

Finally somebody else that likes the idea 👍
(other than me, CFM, Small_Fryz, and Jetboys427 - wow, more people that I originally thought :D)

If we are keeping the old statistics (check the Dynamic statistics about the WRS thread, for a thorough discussion on the matter ;)), we should at least mark the switch to GT4 WRS with something, and what better way than redoing the Qualifications? If somebody was fast in GT3, he/she will be fast in GT4 as well, so this shouldn't scare the people from Division 1 (about losing their spot) too much. It would redistribute some people around, and make each division more competitive.

I vote (already voted, but I vote again) YES for this idea.

The Wizard.

GT4 has improved and more realistic driving physics, so I think a new qualification race isn't a bad idea at all. Only some people will need more time to adapt to the new physics and might set a time that not really represents their level.

Yep I also agree towards re-qualifying :)

oh yeah! and about GT4 ! .... my compliments to the Chef  ... this game is way beyond my expectations 👍 👍

I just figured I would put down my two cents on this subject. I think it would be nice to do the re-qualifying race, like alot have already suggested. And, again this was said, but I don't think it should be the same race as for GT3 (Evo@Midfield). It's a new game, so I say it should be mixed up with a new race from the start. My suggestion? Any car at Nordschleife will do ;) Or if it's decided that we do a license test, the 190E Benz @ Nordschleife while following the pacecar was a decent one. Considering it has to be a clean run to even make it to the finish line. Anyways, just my opinion. Glad to see the game out, and to see that we will be switching over to it. Good luck and happy racing all.

I think tire grip alone in GT4 will make times much slower. But it is so much more fun. Gran Turismo 3 was way to easy compared to GT4 :sly:

as for requalifying I think anything at Suzuka full track would be awesome. That track has everything. High speed turns, medium speed, low speed, decreasing radius turns. everything.

NSX-R at Suzuka.

While I like the idea of qualifying on the Nordschleife, I think it might be too much.

However, I think finding a circuit/car combo that offers a better overall mix of elements (high speed and low speed corners, understeer/oversteer, etc) than an Evo @ midfield is key.

Apricot Hill, Infineon, Motegi, even Tsukuba offer excellent platforms for a qualifier. Midfield is just high speed corners, esepcially the version in GT4.

I dont mean for the qualifying lap, sorry for the bad explination. I meant for the first Challenge/Competition, after the qualifying round was all done up. But either way, it would be cool to see where everyone stands on a longer track like Nordschleife.

Doing a race on the 'Ring (I know it's not the technical name, but I still like to refer to it by that :D) would definitely be a great idea.

Being a long lap, there are plenty of ways to improve one's lap time - and to make it worse as well, obviously ;)

It would be interesting to see how the competitors from the WRS manage to do on a track that much long and involving as the 'Ring.

I am sure it will be part of the WRS history, sooner or later.

Like I said I personally would love to see any race on the Nordschleife. I must have 1000+ laps on it between the GT4 demo and GT4 since last November. I have yet to begin really working on hotlaps in GT4 but spent many weeks in the Gt4 demo. I'd love to race there.

(see my signature link(s) for Nordschleife laptimes...)

I look forward to the week I see "Ruf" and "Nurburgring" together in the WRS.

Yes, I stumbled upon your thread about 'Ring hot laps with different car+tires combos. I will join the leaderboard as soon as I have some time for some practice on the 'Ring - most likely it will be after the 24 Hour Endurance Race, that ought to give me enough experience, don't you think? :D

I look forward to the week I see "Ruf" and "Nurburgring" together in the WRS.

Would love that combination as well 👍
Let's just hope the classic non-educated (to use an euphemism) member doesn't jump at yet another occasion to say: 'Ruf is just a tuner...' <--- we all know where this will be going :D

I got a late start on GT3 but I got GT4 the day it was available here. Drifting is not very appealing in gt4 so here I am for some real racing. =] Is it generally true that the DS2 is faster than the DFP lap times wise? (I think that was the case for GT3). I have a DFP and a DIY "cockpit" ready to go.. muahaha

:nervous:I don't wanna get totally owned XDD

To my knowledge (unfortunately, I would say, as I don't own one) most of GTPlanet members seem to agree on the fact that the DFP is way better and gives you a closer feel with GT4 than the DS2 :indiff:

I swear I am this close to buy me one... we'll see ;)

Hmmm.. ok I think it was the case for GT3 only then.. Something about the GT3's primary controller being the DS2 and GT4's the DFP.. Read that somewhere, can't remember where, most likely somewhere on these forums.. lol

PS:The DFP feels awesome. My dad couldn't understand why I would pay $150 for a steering wheel and $50 on a game and $50 building a cockpit for it. But when I told him to give it a try. He stayed on the game for a good 20mins. Keep in mind that my dad is well into his 40s and does NOT play video games. He even tells his coworkers to try it out now if they're over. (yes he was that amazed)

The day my dad will play a computer or a console game, pigs will start flying and monkeys will rule the world :D
...To which you could reply that monkeys actually DO rule the world already, but you get the point... ;)
