Ok, I along with quite a few million people have now had there chance to get their copy of GT 6 and get stuck in to the latest installment of PD's Real Driving Simulator. And by the looks of it, there seems to be a MASSIVE amount of "GT fans" and I do use that term lightly, whining and crying about how hard it is to earn money in this game and how PD are conning money out of people by keeping the prize money down too low, not giving log-in bonuses, by having seasonal events which don't pay out as much as they did in GT 5 and by not giving as many prize cars as before.
So can I firstly say, Yes not getting the prize cars for each event series which is not a "Championship Series" is a little disappointing. However, I don't recall in ANY of the previous games getting given a car because I had half finished a particular"level" as you do here with the new "Star System". I know that it is not quite the same as there are 7 or 8 race series' plus per level and in some of them only one Championship series so instead of receiving 9 or 10 prize cars, you will get only 3. So for this particular whine, I do tend to agree with the masses.
And this is where the empathy ends!
Secondly, To the subject of PD trying to con money out of everyone by keeping the prize money low and to the people who have made this point. I would like to ask a series of questions. Did you actually play any of the games in this series before you got this one? If you did, you would have noticed the following things. In every game previously when you begin in the lower levels the prize money always sucked and lo and behold the higher up the levels you go the better the money you get. Pretty simple concept I would think, no!? Also, in ALL of the previous games you either had to Complete the relevant license tests in order to compete in the race events for any particular level,or in GT 5 you had to gain the experience through the lower levels or license tests in order to be allowed to compete in the higher level races. But now everyone has the chance to fast track through every level by doing a bare minimum of races to unlock the licence which lets you move up to the next level and then repeat this until you are racing in the International A class or Special class. Now question 2 Correct me if I'm wrong but does this not LET YOU spend one days gaming before you can earn in excess on 100K per race? Allowing you to earn a lot more money way earlier than in ANY of the previous games, not to mention the races seem way easier than any previous game despite PD putting PP limits and tyre regulations in. So where EXACTLY do the "It's so hard to earn money" gripes come from?
So, PD are conning you by having low payouts and MAKING you buy credits for real money. By my understanding the Micro-transactions give the people who either don't have as much time to devote to the game a chance to get some decent cars to use, give the impatient and lazy people a chance to get to the cars they would otherwise actually have to put in some effort to be able to afford, to give people who DON'T WANT to play the career mode but just want to go online and race with friends, some cars to use until they start making money this way, or could it be possible( and I'm sure this hasn't actually crossed the mind of MOST of you complainers about this issue) that instead of having to go to the PS store to get any DLC packs which come out and then having to load the game and install them, as was the norm in GT 5, that PD have in fact just enabled ALL of this to be handled directly from your main game homepage!?Which will save you some time and will probably cost the same as previous DLC. As was, just out of interest, the intention from both Sony and PD from the start as highlighted and explained in quite some detail before the release of the PS3 and if you actually looked into it instead of whining, the rough estimates at the time of costs of potential DLC cars and Tracks when they finally got to do it turned out to be exactly what they said it would be all along when they finally arrived in GT 5.
So here is an idea, You don't want to HAVE to give PD or Sony any more money than you have already spent buying the game, try this as a solution to your problem....DON'T!
And to my next point. Seasonal events. These events were added into GT 5 after a couple of months and for along time the prize money from these events(with a few exceptions) would be similar to what could be gained by running International B/A events, but by the time these were added most of the faithful GT fans(Genuine ones this time) had got to the stage of looking at the choice of doing these events for something new to do instead of re-running normal A-Spec events or to leave their Playstations on for periods of 24-48plus hours so they could do the bigger endurance events as PD didn't put the suspend race option in until a lot later, so these events had to be done in one go(and trust me, this was a tough undertaking). It was not until a long time later that the seasonal events started paying out stupid money for really easy races and longer still until the sign-in bonus let you double up on prize money and even longer still before the performance differential bonus was added allowing people to make 4 times the ludicrous amount of money that was being given as prizes for some,at times, still really easy races. So I'm guessing now, that most of the complaints about not being able to make a lot of money in GT 6 are coming from either the "Fans" who didn't actually start playing GT 5 until after most of these EXTRA features had been put in place which allowed them to run through the game really quickly and allowed them to get to Level 40 within a month of starting playing GT 5 and without actually really playing the career mode, which has always been the cornerstone of the Gran Turismo franchise, by younger gamers who never played much of the previous games or by those with the memory capacity of Goldfish.
Now time for my Whine and cry( as if I hadn't started already). I have just been forced to have a few days away from playing GT 6, as my Blu-ray laser decided enough was enough and died on me. So imagine my surprise when I fixed my console, logged in, loaded up GT 6 and found a nice little update( not really little. lol.)which has fixed a couple of the legitimate problems the game had and as usual has probably broke a few things that were fine before( You know it always does.) But Looking into what has been done I was horrified that PD have actually not only put in log-in bonuses already but have put in seasonal events which will pay out an incredible amounts of money, like they didn't make this game easy enough already. I would much rather PD focused on getting the game to perform the way I, a lot of other of the GT faithful and of course Kazunori Yamauchi-san would want it to, before they spent ANY time at all making it so ridiculously easy for the casual Trophy Whores" who want to finish the game as quickly as possible so they can trade the game in while they get a good price for it.
Sorry about the length of the post but I have been reading a lot of the same type of comments in the forums over the past few days/weeks and I really don't see the issue. This is the 8th Gran Turismo game I have played(including 2 Prologues) as well as playing the long lost "Tourist Trophy"( Motorcycle version of GT 4 essentially, for those who don't know) and to be honest the only real complaint I have about this game( bugs and glitches aside) is that I'm not a huge fan of how open and flexible this game is in comparison to all the others. Should you not HAVE to work your way up from being a novice, driving simple cars and making little money and struggling to make it before you get the chance to advance, through hard work to reach the upper levels of Motor Racing.
And if you find that too difficult at any time, could you not just use the resources available to you to make it a little easier. Like for instance use this website to seek advice from what is possibly the best community of gamers I have found, who actually want to help other people to get the most out of these games and visit the tuning forum where there are a good amount of very talented tuners and test drivers that can help you with turning your out of control monsters into ballet dancers to help you through the harder races.
And to all of those Tuners and Testers that may read this post (if you don't fall asleep during it. lol.) Keep up the great work Guys and Galls! I know your efforts are appreciated by a lot of the GT community and you have my thanks also for helping to make GT5 and hopefully GT6 too, even more fun!
