Report #1
I am one of the people who hoped for GT6 in the PS3, because in the past (gt4) the 2nd game in the same console was a lot better as they had less to develop and focused more on adding features. I was very happy when it was confirmed.
As I am looking into the details I have a bittersweet taste. Sweet in the beginning and bitter as it continues. As I didnt know much I was really excited because in my mind I was imagining that everything I wanted would come in GT6, but as i started to see and learn my hopes were going down (like it was when I gave up on GT5 even though I am a big fan of the series).
I am not exactly sure if PD knows what was really bad in GT5 and how much they are commited to fix it. I get the idea that they are doing small patches to fix it up fast and easy but not change it completely.
I know it is too early to judge but it's not bad for a discussion, since new data will change our views.
When I looked at the new screenshots I was really really let down with the on screen info being exactly the same font place etc. You didn't get that fresh feeling that it's a whole new game. I know a very small grunt that has no real effect on the quality of the game, but being excited that the "new" is coming is important for everyone I believe.
My biggest problems with GT5 were in order of importance:
a.) More events, a huge carreer to hunt and something to push you and no proper racing could be done, qualifiers and starting grid. The AI was sooo slow that you didn't have any competition and the catch the rabbit idea is good but not for all the time. It should have a constant flow until the end of the career, constantly trying to go big. The biggest fan was enjoying your car alone since the AI couldn't provide you (at the majority of the cases) with enough challenge. I found my self only trying to get myself on the slowest car possible to enjoy the race more.
b.) There were so many cars missing while having many editions of the same car with little changes. PD didn't seem to understand what are the hot cars (from the past and the future) that are missing.
c.) Sound was a big let down except very few cars which were decent.
d.) Leaderboards and a ranking system would be awesome (seasonals were only for a few weeks). I am talking about something permament to give you a push to devoting yourself to getting better and climbing the ladder.
e.) More tuning options and drag racing. These were not so hard to implement yet they chose to totally ignore them. It's really fun going for an engine swap and making a very small car very very fast and trying to set it up. You get vast tools for your imagination and further enjoyment.
These were my main concerns, not that I wouldn't want better physics etc. I just think in the other fields it was good (but always room for improvement).
I am not saying that PD will ignore these points, but if they don't change them dramatically and just do small patches than it is predetermined that GT6 will leave that bittersweat taste like GT5 and give even more value to the opponents who are becoming more and better.
I am not trying to start a flame war, I just wanted to state what the average fan would want to see coming. And I believe that PD are obliged to know what is missing from their game. I really hope they make the best GT ever and make us all who doubted them at a point feel like idiots.
