The media and news that @Polsixe is referring to isn't "street cred", it's more marketing and advertising and pop culture. Interview any manufacturer that is any game, about that game, and I guarantee you they'll tell you wonderful things about the game. "Oh yes, DriveClub/GT/Forza/ProjectCars/Assetto Corsa/iRacing etc. is so wonderful, a great way to represent out cars, blah blah blah". GT has has the biggest brand name in the business so it gets the most attention. Street cred rests with the people that play the games, not with those that have a financial stake of some sort in the success of the game.....Good luck convincing people who post in these pages, @Polsixe
GT may have a street cred, but the amount of it is subjective to say the least - unless someone invented a way to measure it?
May not be much to all the whingers here but seeing references to PD, GT6, KY in other more mainstream media sites and news releases show the franchise has a lot of de facto cred, outside the video gamers and the dissatisfied group here. Yes, I'm looking at you.. Much more so than Forza, the closest competition, or even Project Cars.
I didn't know that all it takes to get "cred" is to throw money at car shows and racing events so you can get a booth and sponsorship credit. Coupled with Sony releasing press releases that Jalopnik and whoever practically copy verbatim on slow news days, and PD must have more cred than even IBM in 1984.

To be honest when i was still playing GT up until 2012, the sounds never really bothered me that much. I was mostly pissed because of the slow AI and silly race format. Because of those things i bought a 360 for FM4; man what an eye opener only for the sounds alone (whilst the rest of the game was far better too).I've been playing a lot of DRIVECLUB recently, & this morning I listened to a GT6 video. It's only now starting to dawn on me just how awful the audio is in this game. Don't get me wrong, I've known it was bad for a long time, but wow...just wow. Can't see myself ever playing GT games on PS3 ever again.

digitized sounds
Well you know what i mean no, like they were produced by one dude on his cheap synthesizer, not from a real life recording. While other games use cassette tapes or vinyl records?
*When you hear the chime it'll be time to turn the wheel*
Sound has always been huge to me as I like to play through a good surround sound system and not the tv speakers or headphones. And you're right, once you go to other games, pretty much any other game, you realize how far away GT is from having a truly immersive sound experience. I find it really amusing to see people comment on how good the new cars sound when they actually sound worse to me than the old samples. Like a buzzy, vibrating tin can is how they sound to me, and completely unlike a real car sounds. I'm sure it'll get better when they add in better transmission sounds, intake sounds, off throttle sounds etc. but that remains to be seen at this point. And the new cars all seem to be derived from the same sample. Surely that's not the new way of doing things, to make all the cars sound alike? To be honest when i was still playing GT up until 2012, the sounds never really bothered me that much. Once you experience decent engine sounds in a racing game, you just can't bring yourself to go back to GT anymore as those digitized sounds seem to come straight from the 1990's era. I'm sure if many of the GT fans would make the jump (as a lot strictly play GT and live in the PD bubble), they would feel the same afterwards.
The game seems horribly dated and frankly quite boring when you compare it to what is on offer nowadays.
Some exotic car concept in a car driving game with interiors and better sound.
Poliphony Digital is stuck in 1997.

Haha nailed it! They have the sound engineer from Forza onboard now, so i'm positive GT7 will finally have decent engine sounds. Only took them almost 20 years to change thatI find it really amusing to see people comment on how good the new cars sound when they actually sound worse to me than the old samples. Unfortunately the world revolves around mobey, so yes that is how street cred is gained.
Came across this article too,i think the writer is asking for a bit too much -

How is it that once again Forza have managed to wade through EA's bollocks and come out with Porsches in FH2 (and presumably in FM6 as well, given the timing), and yet the largest non-EA racing game in the world cannot?
I don't believe the BS that Polyphony can't make a deal. They just don't want to pay the price. Which would be more understandable if the price was so high that nobody could pay it, but that's obviously not the case.
Polyphony. Enough fluffing around. Get it done.
Maybe Kaz is so cheap that having fantasy cars and going to random places is a lot more cheaper than spending it on adding actual REAL cars into the game. How is it that once again Forza have managed to wade through EA's bollocks and come out with Porsches in FH2 (and presumably in FM6 as well, given the timing), and yet the largest non-EA racing game in the world cannot?
