I could've sworn you already told us about a dozen times in the past couple of weeks that you have moved on from the GT series.
What's keeping you here?
I'm not buying it either. Would you like to make a personal dig at me?

The AUP is quite clear that personal attacks are not permitted, members who repeatedly ignore the AUP are the one who will not be remaining here. However nothing in the AUP states that you have to own a particular GT title, or that you even have to like the series.

Play the ball not the person.

I'm not buying it either.
GASP!! You're not? Aww Scaff, I was so looking forward to reading your thoughts on GT6's new physics because you're really professional on racing game physics. Aww man. :(

Ahh oh well, guess that means there's no GT6 vs FM5 physics thread, YES! :D

Did, they arguably haven't moved the genre along for a while now.

They're still leaders in terms of sales, no. of cars in game, and graphical quality so I wouldn't say they're doing completely terribly.

Revenue. We don't know how much profit the series has ever made, and the two are rather different.

Well surely if you work with a smaller than average development team and have massive sales that would equate to big profits.

Why?

PD is a Sony studio (owned by them) as is the brand, strictly speaking nothing at all is stopping Sony getting another in-house studio and/or head to develop the series. The majority of GT buyers would have almost no idea if the name at the top changed.

The fact that Kazunori did create the franchise, which was pretty groundbreaking at the time, the fact that Kazunori is featured in interviews more often than most game developers, and the fact that they'll soon be making a film, a film which Kazunori will almost certainly be a central part of, suggests to me that it'd be quite difficult to peel him off of it.

He's lying to himself.

The guy is still in love, doesn't even know it.

I love how the GT6 Whining and Crying thread has turned into people whining and crying about the people that don't like the game.

I thought it was supposed to be whining and crying about the game itself, in an attempt to keep the other threads relatively free of irrational hatred, but hey ho.

Edit:

Hardly.

Unless you had to license 1200 cars for an unknown sum. That could put a dent in it.

You guys know what's gonna suck? GT6 coming out on the 5th of December but i'm to travel overseas on the morning of the 7th......
You know what's worse, it's coming out on the 6th and not the 5th...so one day less to play it - sorry to beak it to you.

I didn't say they were doing completely terrible, I said that had not moved the genre on for a while (and they haven't).

Sales =/= Quality
Number of cars is limited by the sheer number of dupes and the lack of quite a few desirable vehicles (E30 M3 anyone), arguably a number of other developers have done better in terms of mix with a smaller roster.

Graphical quality also only applies to around 20% of the cars and not all of the tracks, in fact in terms of graphical consistency they moved the genre backwards.

And if they spend more than they bring in then they don't make a profit, I will see if I can find the thread later today, but based on stated budget for GT5 and the sales at the time they managed to break-even (just) in terms of GT5.

Fact is Kazunori doesn't 'own' GT and the vast majority of people who buy games don't bother to read the credits I strongly suspect that most would not even notice, after all PD hardly go out of the way to make contact with the buying public. Given that it would not be hard to 'peel him off' at all, now what effect that would have on the product is a valid discussion point, but to say that Sony would not be able to remove him is naive.

Because GT5 failed to deliver on a huge number of levels and as such I want it out and to read feedback from peoiple I trust in terms of physics before I will even consider buying it.

This will be the first GT product that I haven't pre-ordered and got on day of launch and as such is a major shift for me, but I was that underwhelmed by GT5, particularly in regard to physics. A lot has been promised in GT6, but quite frankly I want to experience that before I even consider paying up for it.

You are very sensible, and I completely agree with your comments regards GT5 - I have, however, preordered GT6 AE ;P.

I think I am a bit naive, and it's clear that I'm not an exec. at Sony, because I think that getting rid of Kaz would be a pretty cut-throat move.

It's business. At any level, if you fail to deliver, you get fired. Kaz has been well compensated so far and I'm guessing they wouldn't just fire him but try to do a friendly coup of sorts with a stable transition to new management, with Kaz staying on as a figurehead/advisor. If it ever comes to that...

Unless MockngBrd lives in Japan...

I haven't preordered either, nor will I get it on release. It's only because I'm low on funds, but it does give me four extra days to read reviews and get feedback from GTPlanet members, so there is an upside.

Steve Jobs was forced out of his own company. It's an unfortunate aspect of the corporate world.

Problem is we've ran out of things to whine about for GT6, hence why we're now whining about each other :sly:

I love the internet.

LOL, it is just a matter of time. As soon the game is released, will be tons of things to whine about.
It'll just be the same things we've whined about for months already. Sounds, A.I., no E30 Bimmer, no Porsche, standard cars still there, Kill Kaz with fire, PD will fail, ZOMG Forza is better and the obligatory comparisons with a next gen game, etc.

Very entertaining.

Yes, but there will be more. PD always surprises us. In bad and good ways.

Man, you summed this all up perfectly. Every point you made, is the same way I see it. 1200 cars, who cares, 1/3 are duplicates, 1/3 are race worthy and the other 1/3 are cars that most would not invest in. They just populated the dealership to give the impression that your getting a great selection of cars. Without serious upgrades, that last 1/3 are worthless. There is a reason why other racing games don't have 500 plus cars. Selection is good I agree but 1200+ is redundant. If they can bring over all the duplicates from past GT games, why can't they do the same for the tracks and events. Answer this and you get a Gold star for the day.

Moving backwards, I see this being valid. Standards labeled PD with GT5, point blank. It equals poor time management and lack of priorities. Porting over PS2 models just to populate the dealership is a fail. I am afraid they will continue to try this and they will be ridiculed day in and day out. If they are talking about GT7 coming within a year or two, there is no way they can have 1200+ cars at premiums levels without porting again. They sure aren't going to recreate them all or drop the subpar models. They need to part ways with cars that aren't high poly count. No matter how you look at it, its not acceptable for next gen. Porting GT6 to PS4 will not go well imo. It would be GT5 all over again. Considering the 2nd GT on a PS is typically better, they wouldn't get it right until GT8 if indeed they survive GT6 and GT7.

DLC and patches is what saved GT5. GT4 didn't have these abilities and it was awesome from day one. Fortunately in today's time and age, patches and dlc can fix and improve games. So kudos to that. GT6 has a chance to blow GT5 out the water. Just as GT5 did over GT4. It failed though but I am optimistic about GT6. The upgrades they have done, are great imo. The cars, tracks and events is what killed GT5 for me. The content was repulsive. 80mil over 4-5 years and still needed more time is crazy and very unstructured. Getting GT5 in the state it was from day one was very depressing. If the series is to go forward, this can not happen again.....ever.

I strongly agree that outside of this site, most don't know or don't care who Kaz is. Before joining this site, I had no clue and didn't care myself. That being said, if he was sent packing, most would not care. As long as the title continued and progressed for the better.........."Kaz who....who was he. Oh he started GT....oh okay. Well the game is so much deeper and it has high replay value since he left". GT will continue with or without Kaz. Its one of Sony's babies. GT is almost as big as the Playstation itself. Three games I always get on a new PS, is Madden, GT and God of War. They are the reason I get the newest gen.

As far as GT failing to deliver, I can't stress enough how disappointed I was. I took vacation time and was at Walmart at 11:50pm for my midnight copy. To be giving what we got was disgusting. I wanted to sell my copy within the first week. I stopped playing it completely within 3 weeks only to return 2-3 times. I didn't download one single track or car. If I had the chance, I would have burned the disk in PD and Sony's face. I felt very cheated with GT5. I too said I wasn't going to get GT6 until I saw reviews so I need the review for career mode specifically. Considering the lack of launch day titles for the PS4 that interest me, I think I will go ahead and get GT6 on day one. Its only 60 bucks and I have blown money on worst things. I just hope they learned from the lack of content on GT5 in order to avoid repeating the mistake. Shame on you (PD) first mishap, shame on me the second time for believing in you. Sony nor PD can afford another GT5 episode.

Did I make a "dig" at anyone?
Made an observation and inquired about it.
Your post strongly implied that if a member doesn't own/like GT then you have no place 'here'.

The staff have consistently dealt with posts of this manner in the same way, they are unacceptable and as such fall foul of the AUP.

Please note that this is not a point for discussion, but rather a clear instruction that posting in this manner is not acceptable.

Must be silly season, every thread reduced to folks arguing and mods policing :D
We need some breaking news fast!

Couldn't agree more.

Every now and then I look at GT official channel on YouTube to see if there is a new trailer. I still hope for another one before the release.
