My educated guess would be that they see themselves as part of the military, most of them coming from and having that background, still think they are young guns just joining the army and they enjoy that sort of camaraderie and brotherhood...

Neither the founder of the group nor its current leader served, and I've never come across any kind of breakdown of its membership that indicates in any way the percentage of those who served. They cosplay G.I. Joe while they oppose Antifa and that's about it.

Ya the Proud Boys are probably more "tacticool" than tactile. When I used to be into off-roading there was always a handful of guys that would show up and use military slang while toting an AR-15. I know for a fact that at least two of these guys worked in IT and had never been in the military. I'm guessing most of the people that make up these groups are like this. They couldn't join the actual military so they all got together and formed the Gravy Seals.

Meanwhile Trump is set to pardon "Lil Wayne" for *checks notes* a third illegal possession of firearms charge which could see him spend ten years in prison in addition to the two he already served.
