C-L, great question. 👍

Now.....seperate item. New times for me as I'm ripping apart my PB's on various cars with the new tricks this old dog has learnt. ;)

Toyota 7 Race Car - 7.441 (previous PB was 7.700)

Aw, you just had to beat my new PB by 0.004, didn't you?? :nervous: Good time there. I've still got some things to learn, so maybe that'll improve as well. Oh, by the way... my time in the Formula GT isn't up on the first page... it's somewhere a page or 2 back... I want the honour of having 'quickest FGT' in my sig :sly:

Here it is, quoting myself from 3 months ago...

BTW, great time. Seeing someone get into the 7.40's finally is giving some competition to that category, being 0.2 infront was getting ridiculous to me, and you have obviously discovered the cars secret (it's not really a secret people, but it's something you have to master to get the good times like C-L has now done). And I'm yet to attack the car with some new settings I've been tampering with for AWD models.

Thanks, mafs 👍 I got a 0'07.449 a few minutes back, and I'm waiting for my dad to come and take a pic of the TV:lol: He should be here in a couple of minutes. I will save this space to post the pic :)

BTW, new setting for AWD? Sounds scary :scared: Haven't been able to find a guide of 4WD here :( Had to combine FF and FR settings, but I doubt that's the same.

On a note, it's much harder to tune cars for the 1/4 Mile than people think. I feel sorry for them, honestly. They are missing such a great experience.

EDIT: Alright, here's my pic.

Codename L - Skyline GT-R Concept '01 - 7.449

EDIT 2: I have been reading from many different places in order to know more about tuning for the 1/4 Mile. Probably I will give it a new shot later.

I bet your old man is giving you weird looks C-L.

"Dad, I need you to take a photo, quick."
"Of what son?"
"The TV"

:P

Just to let you know though, you're actually #3 overall in the world due to I-Runner's 7.443 on his italian forum.....I'd forgotten to mention that in the previous post. :) I'll go and find the link if I can......:nervous:

RJ - You've got plenty of competition. You have Maxie & now Jspoon, the two quickest FF guys now attacking your FD record, that's why you had to re-take the record back. :sly: I gave it a shot and got 8.258 but I've got to get my gearing right again, it's been way too long since I did one. :embarrassed:

Macca - You can have the FGT record, but I can't put it in because it's nowhere near the Top 15 in any category unless you go for NO NOS Race Car.

I could swear that the best car on the strip was the 7 Race Car, it has THE lowest p/w ratio of any car (untuned), though I could just as well be horribly wrong.

C-ZETA, even when tuned the Toyota 7 has the lowest WPR, but the problems are:

a)It's 2WD
b)It's too much power.

The Minolta suffers from the same problem, otherwise both would be close to being 6sec cars.

The Escudo has less power and it's 4WD, but it's very laggy under 6000rpm which makes it difficult to master. For that reason I feel that the GT-R is a better (ie. more consistent) car in this aspect as the power in that is all over the rev range and I could get 7.30's all day with it....I can't do 7.19's all day with the Escudo, it's very temperamental and will range from a 7.19 to a 7.40 depending on launch and gearshift smoothness.

 That sounded just like it!

Third place overall? :ouch: Still, I bet you have heard what Ayrton Senna once said: "Second place is the first loser" :P
Getting a time like it again is a difficult feat in itself, as I'm already struggling to get into the 7.4xx, usually getting .480 - 4.98. :nervous:

Mafs, add "c) too much aero drag" to that list as well as "d) too peaky of a power curve" ;)

Drag.....not really, it's not that bad compared to the Escudo or Minolta, but 50 is a lot compared to all the GT wings (40 at most with the Speed 12). :P The thing I find weird is that with the Escudo, it bucks the trend and wants more DF, whereas the other cars in question like less on the front end as per the normal FR/MR/RR car.

Power curve......yep, but like the Escudo, if you keep the revs on first gear up on launch it won't fall out of it. It's the shifts, sometimes it's fine....sometimes it spins 2nd and sometimes I shift when the rpm's are too high so there's that small blip of time more between 1st/2nd & 2nd/3rd shifts.

C-L, I think I know what your problem will be to get that little bit lower but I'll let you figure that last bit out yourself, it took me ages to work it out. :)

The downforce isn't that high, no, but it has more drag than the 787B at least. By quite a bit. Doesn't like Sarthe's long straight.

It will take some time before I can return to GT4 Drag tuning since I've restarted GT1,2,3 and 4 recently.

It seems like Jspoon has a nice tune for NA FF's 👍 :scared:

It's propably just a little thing, but I haven't figured it out yet :nervous:

Now you know how I've felt for nearly 2yrs. :P:sly: And since you're ahead of me too in the FF ranks, you're as big a headache as he is.:lol::lol: The Spoon is another coming out of semi-retirement as I want to see if these new techniques and settings will work with an FF car like that. ;)

I tried the new settings on the R35 GT-R and damn it makes it a too consistent mongrel. Didn't matter what dampers or spring rates I had, didn't matter on the LSD, I tried at least 20 different settings there between those three and still wound up with another 7.335 but at a slower 301km/h and ranged all night between 7.335 & 7.361 after about 200+ runs (90.x Km on the clock). I'm a bit puzzled with the ballast too, there's several sweet spots allowing constant wheelspin & acceleration but the second you're out of those ranges it gains traction and costs you an extra 0.5-0.6sec. It also occurs if you rev it too much after takeoff, it gains traction and bam, extra 0.5-0.6sec again onto your time.

But afterwards, I let my 3yr old son drive it, with me changing gears. He got a 7.421 revving it off the line with nitrous going.

That's not exactly what I'm saying C-L. What I'm saying is playing with it helps. But here's some food for thought.....

GT-R is designed like this (and pardon the computer icons representing the car here!)......and the [ is the end, tyres are O & using ^ to point:

[_O___O_]

^ = -50
+50.....= ^

Now the point of traction is to get as much weight on the wheels as possible. In a car like the Toyota 7 the car would be like this:
[o_____O]
Where putting the weight at 200/+50 would be the best and doing the DF at 10/50. Others like my FF ITR, run well with it at 200/-50 and doing all the DF at 30/0. Then the Escudo which is 4WD, also requires the ballast at +50 but to force more traction on the front aswell. The GT-R can't have the downforce, so you adjust the ballast and diffs to compensate. Also 4WD's prefer FR friendly settings.

*added bit* NEW GT-R RECORD!!

7.330@302km/h.

I've found the ballast limit for the car, now I'm just adjusting the settings (slowly) back to what I originally had and tweaking it more. Photo being added to collage.

*added bit #2* It's now 2hrs later and more tweaking has resulted in the GT-R now running.....

7.325!! I'm starting to think that 7.29's may be possible......I doubt it though.

Hey mafs, it's time for a stupid question!

Some of the 'rules' aren't really spelled out in the first post. Are there restrictions on tyres? TCS? Presumably wings are allowed and NOS except for the two 'non-NOS' categories? I'm sure there's other stuff I've missed as ewll It might be an idea to edit this stuff on tot he first post (or link it).

Thanks,
PF

There are no tires restrictions, or TCS for that matter (where would we be standing if it wasn't for you, TCS??? :embarrassed:). Wings are allowed.

C-L just answered it. It's run what you bring to the track. R5's, NOS, TCS, Wings, ballast, anything to make your car faster (except cheating using ARMax's or Gamesharks) is allowed.

*added bit* It's a new day, and my Spoon is back out for a crack at the 11.4's again. Improved PB of 11.539 so far.....but looks like I need to reassess how I'm going about this, I keep hitting that 11.540 wall with different settings at the moment.

Also, I've become a member of the 8.1 FR club, getting an 8.184 in the Viper SRT-10. The TVR might come back out for a spin too.

Every now and then the game decides to tell me how much I suck. Took me 20 min to get a 12.804 with the 70 Skyline. Grrrrrr

EDIT: Yes, that was a typo. From 11.804 on the first one got into the low 11s, will try to get a few more tenths off it to beat the bottom score on non-US pre-75 cars. Does anyone know where there is a 'drag racing for idiots' FAQ?

Sorry boys but this post is a novel, but it does have pictures. :D

Does anyone know where there is a 'drag racing for idiots' FAQ?

I actually haven't seen one apart from my FF drag tutorial from a couple of years ago. But the basic premises are the same when dealing with most of the other drivetrains. I'll PM that thread link to you actually. Also, to give you more insight, RJ and I are discussing some aspects of drag cars in the GT4TC group thread as I'm trying to figure out something and we're comparing notes basically. That will be your best chance to learn 'the secrets' of the 1/4 mile zen masters.

Also, in regards to people asking "WHAT" the rules were, I've defined them more clearly and moved them to the top of the page so that you can get the rules before the times. :)

Okay, enough talking about others, the rest of the post is all about ME!! :D:D:D

As promised earlier, I've got a little collage of pictures to confirm the times quoted in earlier posts.

The times are in the following order:
1. Toyota 7 Race Car - 7.441
2. Nissan GT-R Concept - 7.325
3. Dodge Viper SRT-10 - 8.184
4. Spoon Civic - 11.539
5 & 6. Nissan GT-R Concept (NO NITROUS!) - 8.471

So I take back #1 in the No Nitrous road class and increase my lead in AWD again after C-L's sub-7.50 run. ;)

"Why do you continue to break your time with the GT-R, Mr. mafs? Why, why do you persist?!"

 Great time mafs 👍

I like to make it a decent challenge for you guys, besides you don't see Michael Phelps stop breaking records just because he has one. :P No use having the world's fastest GT-R if the target time is easily reachable by others.

I'm going to lay off the 1/4's for a bit to concentrate on GME stuff so you've all got an opportunity to close the gap. ;) Then I'll be back with a couple of more FR/MR cars.

Hey mafs, you know that 'tutorial' thing you were gonna PM? Can you link it here instead? Might bring in a few newbies like myself.

Thanks, PF

Decided to improve my time in the FGT by a massive 6 milliseconds! I won't be satisfied until I get 8.08 though.

Picture1-11.jpg

Oh yeah, that is for NN race cars 👍

*whistles innocently*

Funny thing is that I didn't even change the original settings... just removed what I needed to :D

Edit: Just thought i'd mention, my FGT time is listed as 8.108... silly Mafs!

That's what I did to get to 7.345. :P Just watch how hard the extra couple of hundreths become to get. ;) But going from your time, you have definitely discovered how to launch the puppy properly. ;)

Edit: Just thought i'd mention, my FGT time is listed as 2 days, 7 hours, 45 minutes, 8.108 seconds

Fixed. :P
