Bump to update, as I've added a couple of lenses, one sensible, and one not.

Sensible is a Nikkor DX 35mm f1.8, near as damn it a prime for DX-format Nikons, cheap, well built, and awesome, the shot below is f8 at a 1/50 with it.

P_P_DSC_5227-DeNoiseAI-raw_01.jpg

The not-sensible purchase arrived today, and I've not yet had a serious play with it, a 25mm f1.4 CCTV, with an M43 adaptor for my GX7, the combined price of the two, is £23.99. I've seen the c-mount to M43 adaptors being sold for only a few pounds less than that, and it's metal construction. I'm not expecting good image quality, certainly not off-center, but it could be a fun little (and it is little) tool to mess with.

The new 12-32 gives me a stupidly pocketable wide zoom and opens up the widest just a bit being a 24 to 64 equivalent), once I get a longer zoom for M43 the 14-42 may go, honestly the size of this thing is just absurd.

Then we have the Olympus 45mm f1.8, it's tiny for a 90mm equivalent and utterly silent in focusing, and a lovely lens.

My current M43 kit...

20230221_131424.jpg

...while I still love my Nikon, I have to admit the M43 system has a lot of appeal due to just how portable it is, and a second body is likely on the cards soon.

Here's a shot from the 20mm showing that M43 is a sensor that can be used in lower light with great results, despite what many may claim, and M43 works brilliantly for photographing bands in pubs and clubs due to its size.

New Update

My love affair with M43 has continued, so a second body, and pocketable zoom have been added to the list, along with (finally) me once again being a Billingham owner, I've no plans currently to get rid of the DLSR kit, but the fact that I can fit my entire mirrorless kit into the Hadley pro is a significant bonus.

2024 Gear Post

Canon EOS R
Canon Rebel T3
Canon Rebel X (film)
Canon AE-1, Canon Digital Rebel (effective paperweights)

Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM - latest acquisition
The widest-angle lens I've ever had and it's more fun than I thought, probably because it suddenly makes the EOS R a lot more nimble. Wide-angle lenses like these remind you to take some care with composition, because just a little shift in your shooting position, or moving a stitch changes a lot of perspective due to distortion at the edges. And the in-camera corrections are pretty good, for what it's worth.

Canon RF 24-105mm f/3.5-7.1 STM
Kit lens is a pretty sharp all-round lens but lacks some personality...a little clinical. Would like to save up for an f/4L or save for an f/2.8 in the future.

Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 STM
Autofocus doesn't miss, almost enjoy walking around with this more than the 24-105. Better action lens than I'd expected, and the color representation is delightful!

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 SC
I swap between these two when I travel: warmer colors on the EF, cooler and calmer images on the FD. Sometimes I just like the FD as a conversation piece and nostalgia since I've had it since 1990.

The EF just puts up with use and some abuse after 25+ years, without complaints.

Canon EF 35-80mm f/3.5-5.6
I barely use this anymore since the autofocus makes loud squawking noises. Would be a pretty good range and super light but images are a little too contrasty.

Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM
This is a little gem on the T3, making it a stupidly-light combo. A pity it crops on the full-frame R, gives an effective 40mm-look.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
On my third one, they'd last three years and stop focusing properly. Nothing special but I got lots of family/travel shots out of these if you don't need bokeh. Like $40-50 used so no biggie to wear them out.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6
Not bad for some action, not great for approaching subjects. f/4 @ 55mm is a "hidden in plain sight" feature.

Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/3.5-5.6 (autofocus is unreliable)
Enjoyed this one for 18 months and it crapped out. Can still use its macro mode on manual focus. Sometimes it randomly plays nice.

Tamron 80-210mm f/4-5.6 (EF mount, choppy autofocus)
Used this on my film Rebel, and progressively had more "indicisive slack" when focusing. Lovely bokeh at f/4-5 using subject separation, colors a bit murky.

Samigon 135mm f/2.8 (FD mount, stuck at f/2.8)
Chromatic Abberation is you new friend and will follow you everywhere! Monochrome makes the problem go away.

EF-RF lens adapter
FD-RF lens adapter
Canon Speedlite 155A
Without an in-camera flash for the first time since my AE-1...why not take it along and experiment? I usually diffuse the flash with a hair tie yoinked from my wife's collection and a soft lens cloth. I'll either fold it over 1-3 times and do some guesswork.

[

Meike RF-mount 13mm and 18mm extension tubes
Seems to work best on the EF 50mm without a fuss, and the RF 100-400. Works in manual mode on the RF 24-105

58mm magnifier (1.5x), 55mm magnifier (0.43x)
It's not a miracle worker, but these were yard sale finds for a dollar each.

Two tripods (Velbon and some Amazon brand)
Circular polarizers (67, 55, 58, 52mm); five color filters (55mm), some ND filters (58mm)

After seeing this thread at some point and being too lazy to post anything, here is my current collection / setup ^^

From left to right:

1. Polaroid Supercolor 635 (Currently not using it, but planned usage for next year)

2. Polaroid Go Gen2 (Main camera for doing stuff with friends, quick snips at car meets to give to the owners)

3. Sony ZV-E10 MK1, fitted with a Smallrig case and a Sigma 18-55mm F2.8 (Goto camera to take everywhere, until I got my A7CII)

4. Sony A7CII, fitted with a Samyang 35mm F2.8 (Haven´t used it all to much so far, I´ve been a bit busy with work)

5. Sony A7R with no lens currently, as I mainly keep it as a personal souvenir (My first Sony camera I used)

6. 7Artisans 18mm F6.3 (It´s a stupid little lens to have, but I love using it ^^)

7. Minolta MD 28mm F2.8 with a MD mount to E mount converter (experimental lens I bought one day, to see what I could do)

8. EF mount to E mount converter

9. Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN (My main lens for filming)

10. Tamron 20mm F2.8 Di III OSD (a random lens I got gifted from a friend)

11. Sony FE 50mm F1.8 (My first Sony lens....it´s ok...I guess)

Here´s a few pictures to give an example. They´re all edited, but didn´t want to re-touch too much (I shoot in RAW most of the times)
