Ford Mustang GTP says hi.Its front-engined design reminds me of the GT-R LM NISMO, and it seems as competitive as that too.
You could say the designers were taking the PAS.
Ford Mustang GTP says hi.
Actually just kidding this was also a bad idea , though the engine was the issue really. Wasn't really a match for the other GTP's overall. Guess the Pontiac PAS (or pos, am I right? ) and GTP Mustang join the Nissan in the bin of bad FR prototype designs. Panoz still the only successful one.
That did 80's coke and forgot which part of Florida the drag strip was in. Ran like it too from what I gatheredIt looks like a Funny car.
I've have the impression that the Mustang GTP was a evolution of Zakspeed's Capris.
The BDA engine was enlarged for the Mustang effort and used a carbon-fiber monocoque instead of the tubeframe construction that the Capri had. Looking over that, someone could think both cars were the same underneath the different bodies.
Not surprising then that with the Ford Probe GTP and later the Ford Mustang Maxum GTP (basically a Group C) they went with another engine I believe (not 100% on that). The early GTP Mustang was nothing more than a re-bodied tube-frame Zakspeed Capri. But i don't think the version pictured above had much in common with it, other than the engine.
The BDA Turbo engine was based on the ancient Ford Kent block. It was able to take upto 1600cc as an enlargement from the original 996cc but its really too small to take much bigger bore-sizes and keep reliable. I know how unreliable they can be when enlarged to 2ltrs, 2.1ltr and the stresses of extreme turbocharging, is just pushing it too far, much even with a modified block.
WHAT IN GOOD GOD IS THAT?
I saw the name. Didn't believe the appearance.
Was that ever successful?Bugatti EB110
It reminds me of these:Here's another pic of the PAS, showing what the front looked like. I think this thing pretty darn cool.
Talking of Interserie... 1991 Jordan turned into a 'sportscar' for the series.

Not so much "Can't believe they raced it", but definitely quite something.
Imagine if they tried that stunt now days.I'll add a pair of Lola T92/50's that raced in 1995.

What about a Caterham.Good luck getting your hands on a <2-year-old F1 car with running gear.
Interserie required closed wheel cars. It was designed for prototypes in general, but as the series started to falter, people just got reject F1 cars and bolted arches on. It did signal a slow death for a once great series, but I always thought they looked fantastic.I'll add a pair of Lola T92/50's that raced in 1995.
