It's called "Paint chips" I think.
Kind of, yes. When you race mod one of the 17 eligible cars in GT5, it comes with a livery, and you can color in one of the areas on the car body. Hey, I did say it was "very, extreemely, barely implemented." ;)

Now, before I finally crawl off for a nap, I thought I'd share a pic from an SCCA race at Road Atlanta in 2008.

(piccie delete)

Eh, that one is kind of hard to see anything much, how about this one?

Now, just imagine that you had created one of those liveries, and your friends racing with you had made their own. How cool would this be?

RCG, I love your links, other than the last one which seems to have pooped out at this late hour. I've been pouring over the nets for ideas myself much of the day, and hope by Sunday to have a few things whipped up to share.

I know a lot of people are down on the Livery Editor idea simply because nothing like it has ever been in Gran Turismo - to this point. We have a very, extreemely, barely implemented livery painter in GT5, but it's there. With a massive boost to GT6's online structure, even to being able to create our own clubs and leagues, and hosting championships, I think that two items in particular are just about essential to make this have any serious appeal.
  • An Event Maker, allowing the creation of single races, series, championships, and even an online racing "season" if I'm right.
  • A Livery Editor, with at least the power of the one in Shift. Perhaps even the one in Forza 5.
  • And along with those two, Race Mod for the vast majority of cars in the game.
I know I'm one of the starry eyed dreamers of the boards, but some of my outrageous E3 predictions have already been fulfilled, so let's hope for the best for these as well. Now, I need to konk out for a while... :P

I can't see that happening. A Race Mod is a new car. New body and new cockpit. That probably takes almost as long to model as any other premium.

Think it doesn't? The body might be very similar maybe? Try to explain all the standard MX-5's, GT-R's and Z's that have the same body shape as the premium versions of those cars and yet stay resolutely standard.

You know, I've been wondering what it was that I posted that was so awful about Forza that has your underwear all bunched. I guess it's that "horrendous driving model" remark. Okay, look, I'll be a little plainer and less bashy or whatever, you know, like some of you are so cavalierly around here towards a certain game which these forums are based around, and the members thereof.

I do have problems with the Forza driving model. A lot of people do, it's not exactly a state secret or anything. I shouldn't have to be reluctant to say that, as much as Gran Turismo is routinely trashed around here. I don't know why it's such a problem for me, for others, ask them. Believe me, there are awesome things about Forza 4 in particular that I would love to give a virtual tongue bath like I do GT5. But I can't. Oh well.

I don't give a damn what you think of Forza 4 driving, frankly. It's your opinion. However if I did, I'd read your opinions in the Forza section of the forum. It's not what you say that's annoying, it's that you constantly bring it up in threads that have nothing to do with Forza.

And as for "staying on topic," first of all, conversations happen.

Yes but more often than not it's you bringing up Forza when nobody else has mentioned it. For example, guess who decided to bring up Forza in a thread titled 'Gran Turismo 6 general Physics discussion'.

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=8487122#post8487122

Even when a thread like this one might warrant talking about the game you can't just stick to the topic, you have to get a little snide remark in there.

When I did discover Forza, I ended up spending more time creating race cars than racing them. Which was a good thing. ;)
.

Or how about this gem? Someone critisises SRF in GT5/6 and what is your response? Is it to discuss SRF in GT5/6? No, it's to proclaim that Forza is worse.

I can't believe they are putting SRF in GT6. I'm certainly not pre-ordering the game and if they force SRF to be on for any of the events like the license tests, special events, etc. I won't waste my time with gran turismo anymore.

How on earth can they be the 'real driving simulator' when they include the skid force recovery that gives you more traction as the tires slip? How is that realistic? Oh, right, it's not. Not to mention, not being able to tell in a replay if it's being used or not since it provides a huge advantage.

And I'm betting there will still be standard cars too? I think there is a real possibility I won't be buying GT4 3.0

Jerome

Well, Forza 4 is worse, and this hasn't hurt its reputation all that much. And these simmish games need aids in order for the newbs and kids to have a fun time and keep buying the new games in the series (err... what he said ^).

But whatever, it's just an observation.

I couldn't care less about a livery editor, I rather have more cars, tracks and racing events.

No reason it would have to be one or the other. It's not like Kaz would instruct the 3D modellers to knock up a livery editor. They would need to create a UV map but that's done last anyway so still not one or the other.

Oh yeah, I can't believe one of my links did that.

Here's another link; it's the Arta Zexel GT-R that was in Gran Turismo 2.

I also like the R33 Arta GT-R & this Endless R33 too

I don't give a damn
That's fine, I don't either. Let me edit in while my 360 Leet updates endlessly that since you Forza fans go so completely hysterical when your game is painted in a less than favorable light, I will refrain from responding in kind while you guys say all manner of unfriendly things about Gran Turismo, Polyphony, and those of us here who are so utterly blind as to see no flaw in such a poorly made game series. Have fun being 78% friendlier or something. ;)

Anyhow, on to more car painting, and hopefully some better ideas than the one I used on my Ford GT. By the way, one quick praise of that other game: some people aren't up on this, but you can paint over the liveries of race cars. They're still there, and with the ability to save libraries of liveries, all you have to do is remove yours to have the original back. Now how cool is that?

@ RandomCarGuy

I wish I was retired and could spend my life doing these creative things. Every livery I come across has me ravenous to see that Forza-like Livery Editor in GT6. I would love to recreate some of these incredible cars from past GTs and real life, but I think I'll focus on the original stuff for now, and springboard from that into how other games enable custom liveries and sharing of livery elements to other members in online clubs and leagues. In particular, Forza 3 was the engine driving a group of us (ba dum bum) here at GT Planet to produce GT Planet liveries for our little group. I made a decal "sheet" and shared it with the gang, and they used them to produce a number of really good looking skins for various cars.

One last quick edit: that Carpark site has some fantastic liveries!

Anyway, that other game awaits, gotta get out my virtual paint brush. :D

Enough of this GT vs Forza argument. They booth have their flaws, keep the subject in another thread.

Now back to liveries: www.kodafactory.com

One of the best skinners in the World, period.

Right-o. Anyhow, while Forza updates, do you have any idea whether or not these skins - really superb by the way - are from real world racing series? It seems like motorsports these days are a Chinese puzzle box which opens into seemingly endless racing series and leagues. I'm going to be wedgie-ing in some cars which aren't legitimately in any current racing leagues, but I'm hoping to spice up my liveries with a dash of authenticity.

Understood, I just felt like sharing what I might intend to do if GT6 has a livery editor. Anyway, yeah; keep focusing on your original designs, they look great!

It's the number one unwritten rule of any forum, stay on topic. Criticism of GT6 in the GT6 forum is in the right place. What you don't need to do is constantly compare it to another similar product. You seem to have an obsession with doing so.

If you want to bash Forza, go to the Forza forum on the board. There is no need to bring it up at any tedious link to GT6.

Good luck he has never been able to get the connection of why it's wrong.

Also GT hasn't had a livery editor ever painting car a single random color =/= livery

Nor does, pre-set sorta livery =/= editor, so not sure how the faulty logic works Tenacious.

To me a good livery is a good livery no matter if fictional or not, anyway in my previous post all cars are from real life series. The ones with black numberplates are from "Blancpain Endurance Series 2012" which feature GT3 cars and an outstanding 24h of Spa amongs other iconic tracks. http://www.blancpain-endurance-series.com/

The grey/yellow Audi is from Limitless Racing, a Grand AM Series team http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7240/7387606060_2a8e8e6691_z.jpg

Now some more beauties from Alex Koda, (McLaren fictional, Audi real).

In regards to this picture...

Tokyo Game Show 2006. Still waiting.

If you look closely at the background, it clearly says "Gran Turismo HD," which originally was going to be GT5 with the plan to make GT5 out of GT4. However, because GT: HD was scrapped, and GT5 was then rebuilt from scratch, technically Polyphony never 'promised' a livery editor for the current-build GT5
Although having looked at this photo, several other features are missing: Team/Club builder (coming in GT6), the race builder tool, drift contest and number/license plate editor
Getting back to the livery editor: If Polyphony doesn't add it in, at least give us the ability to add a number/license plate editor for that little aesthetic addition

Honestly, I wouldn't really care too much if there wasn't a livery editor. I've survived this long without one in a GT game and it wouldn't matter now or in the future, for me at least. It's not the biggest thing on my wishlist for a racing game.

Well it would be quite a helpful tool for racing series, not sure if you participated in those or not. If GT and games were that of GT4 and prior thus not having an online feature where such things wouldn't be necessary and it is just simple racing of AIs. Yet this is a great tool to help distinguish teams and making racing clubs/teams that run multiple series and being known via livery.

Exactly why i started the thread.

It opens the game up to so much more than just driving.

Keep those liveries coming guys, some of them are breathtaking....

Surely if Kaz was to see them he would want us to be part of it through HIS contribution to the gaming world !!!

To me, cars are about so much more then just driving. It's about the personalization and ownership. This is what makes forza fun even though the driving isn't as exciting as GT5. Being able to make a truly unique car that reflects your personality to me is the next major priority in a game that seems to be about ownership and collection.
Ideally, they would allow you to paint the windows too, that is where I prefer my stickers to be to keep the body looking clean. Also, a paint system like midnight club would be nice, where you can paint individual body panels and even color the interior to your liking. Even more seemingly useless things like roof racks and fog lights would add so much to making a car YOUR car.
While most of these things are pointless performance wise, it would make the ownership much more enjoyable. For example, I'm a snowboarder, so my dream car would be an F30
335xi wagon with a sticker bombed rack, some mudflaps, m-sport body modifications, and a host of snowboarding themed stickers on the rear. I would very much enjoy having a car like this on GT6, though these modification would be useless, and even a bit awkward looking on a track, is love to have my dream car. This is the direction I think GT should go. It's always been about driving cars within your grasp and test driving your dream cars, so why not take it a step further.
Also, it would breath new life into the drift community, drifting is all about taking a street car and turning it into a unique, sliding monster. Being able to create your own grubby little drift machine rather then having to use pristine stock cars would definitely make the experience more enjoyable. Especially for something like drifting which is very style driven.

I´m a bit ambivalent to a livery editor. Sure, it´s really nice, but I end up doing nothing but liveries instead of actually playing the game :indiff:
But here are some I made in FM2:
Vodaphone Mercedes

Gr.C Lamborghini

Would love to be able to do things like this in GT6!

Wow, you did an amazing job with those cars! Excellent work!

I had a lot of really nice ones done up in FM2 as well, was pretty bummed that I could not transfer them over to FM3

I was never that good at painting or had the patience for it in any game, that's why an in game marketplace of some sort to share them is absolutely vital.
