The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

I actually thought that it would be called that, was expecting something else though.

So, who are Audi going to replacing McNish with for 2014? It's certainly a big pair of shoes to fill. I'm guessing di Grassi, but I could be wrong.

I'm sad to hear That McNish is retiring, but I can see why he is doing so at this point in his career. Shame he never managed to earn that third Rolex that he wanted from Daytona to accompany his Le Mans and Sebring ones.

It will be interesting to see who replaces him in the 1 car alongside Kristensen and Duval. It'd be nice to see fellow Brit Jarvis get the shot in that car.

I'm wondering how long until Kristensen follows. McNish is such an incredible personality in the endurance racing scene. I always enjoyed how he took his time to make YouTube videos for all his fans and taking his time to explain different aspects of his job. You don't see many racing drivers spending any time to connect with their fans. McNish is a driver who did, and I have tons of respect for him.

Overall I'd say Mcnish is my favourite driver. Not only is he incredible behind the wheel but he always has time to talk and explain things. As much as I hate it I think he's made the right decision.

Don't rule that out just yet.

From the Autosport article.
Perhaps I could do the Daytona 24 Hours in the future, like Martin [Brundle] did a few years ago [in 2011], but I will not be committing to a full championship again."

@Justin I'd missed that in the articles I've read so far on his retirement. I hope he does manage to win the Daytona 24, it's probably the only thing missing from his endurance racing collection.

Closes the book on any chance of getting a Rolex.. Congrats to him though

He'll be in Daytona at some point

Farewell to McNish.

But this retirement presents Audi an opportunity to improve their driver lineup. McNish wasn't anywhere near as good as Duval, Lotterer, Treluyer, or even TK, over the last couple years, I wonder who will replace him. Hopefully it's not a boring choice like Jarvis and Audi take a risk with someone new.

This really sucks, however what he's accomplished is amazing and for him to step out while arguably still in his prime is a very respectful thing to do.

I could see Rene Rast stepping up...

On a serious note, he's had a great career. Not a bad idea to go off on a high note.

On a less serious note, who's going to be Audi's new Ferrari-torpedoing specialist?

I would suggest Jarvis since he did well at Le Mans getting the car back to the pits without ripping the undertray off his car when he lost a tyre. That sort of thing goes down well with endurance team personnel.

A better question would who will replace TK because he is very overdue for retirement.

I doubt Audi will pick him up but is love to see Lucas Luhr in an R18, think he'd be a match for any of their current drivers.

I believe they had Luhr before and let him go, else he would be in the car currently occupied by Lotterer and co.

Jarvis perhaps. Heidfeld would be good too. I think Di Resta may have some kind of chance in the near future as well. Tom Kimber-Smith comes to mind as well, although I'm not sure how committed he is to Core at the moment.

Labre want to use the C7R in GTE Am next year, on the basis that Porsche are also using a "New" car in Am.

They will be driving a rather large coach and horses through the regulations if that happens.

Let one get away with it and you have no choice but to let the rest do it, then you don't have the rule that you can't have an updated car unless you run it in a race the previous season.

Result. New cars and updates every season and massive escalation of costs.
