Question: I'm currently using a MAd CatzII (works with PSP2, XBox and Gamecube) ... it's a decent wheel ... does the job ... but I've been seriously looking at the DFP (of course). Aside form everything else, and assuming that I drove my usual (below par) race, would a DFP actually shave time off my laps? I mean, have people found that the increased control and response translates into better performance on the track, or does it just FEEL better?

anyone know where the logitech lap attatchment for the wheel can be purchased from in the uk? looked all over but can only find natty game cube wheels bundled with the attachment

Yeah would go for the DFP, i'm deff' better with it and im sure you would be aswell. Of course it feels better aswell go for it 👍

Man! I'm having a hard time trying to complete the snow track on the S license test using the DFP!

snow tracks just make me wanna switch back to using the controller.. instead of the DFP.. :guilty:

The lap attachment is rubbish, it's the first thing I tried, you have no control of the wheel whatsoever.

The main problem is youre constantly moving your legs around to press the pedals and this upsets the wheel , which doesnt stay put, if you want to have any hope of controlling it you have to squeeze your legs together really hard, and even still it doesnt work.

plus the FF completely moves it around on top of that, so there really is no point to the lap attachment.

I'm using just a crappy tv dinner tray table thing which is really flimsy, but with a 6L water tank on it it stays put :) plus the height on it is good.

Hi, I'm a newbie. I'm amazed at the community I have found here. I knew there was a lot of GT4 fans - just didn't know that you guy's we're so serious and passionate about the game - which is all good!!!!

I want to get a DFP, but I'm a little concerned about the pedal issue. So do you guys whole heartedly recommend this wheel? I guess I'm looking for some reassurance that I'm buying a good product.

well, i'm guessing some pedals were made a bit better than others. I have never had pedal problems with my DFP and i've had it since december.

I just got my DFP yesterday, and so far I love it. I feel like a total beginner again, but that is part of the fun....I guess. I also ended up ordering the Hyperdrive cockpit today, because I can't find the optimal mounting with what I have. My coffee table is perfect for height (it's top raises up to just the right height), but the lip is rounded and the unit won't stay put very well. Has anyone else bought the hyperdrive unit?

After i quick skim over this tread (94pages, ain't got time for them all!) i have a few questions, so bear with me:

Whats the difference between DF and DFP?

Im thinking about making a cockpit - will they have fittings so i can attach them to a frame?

Are there any other wheels i should consider buying, or are the Driving Forces considered the best.

I live in the UK, so if anyone could hit me with a few good links for buying them, i'd be pleased.

I had a DF (it broke) and bought a DFP, so can answer your first question:

Differences
1. 900 degree movement on wheel (2.5 turns lock to lock)
2. Gear lever on the right of wheel (sequential, tap up and down type) as well as gear buttons behind wheel
3. bigger pedal box with spike strip that grips carpet
4. DFP does not come with a lap attachment (and my old attachment from DF did not fit, although others have said here that theirs did??)

Buying
I got mine from Gameplay
Try this Froogle link for other options. Places tend to sell out quickly

Others
No personal experience of any other wheels, but everything I've read confirms what I suspect. The Driving force wheels are by far the best.

DFP attaches well to any flat surface. I have mine attached to a 6" by 24" shelf in my cockpit - not moved yet. Pedals just need some way of stoppin them from being pushed away from you - they have carpet grips built in or a piece of timber screwed in behind them works welll in my cockpit.

Play.com have em in right now.. £85 from play.com, and ebuyer are £70 if they ever get any back in :guilty:

I just want to say that I bought the DFP last night and it has UTTERLY transformed my driving and enjoyment of this game ... it's like i'm playing a completely different title. I enjoyed it before ... I LOVE it now.

I had a wheel (The MadCatZ II) which did the job, but compared to the DFP, it's nothing but a cheap toy. Not only is the DFP of incredibly solid and quality construction, but the way it works is STUNNING.

Yes, the 900 degrees of turn is incredible (and if you think that you won't use it, wait until you hit your first hairpin), but it's the forcefeedback that has blown me away.

I thought that the thing was just goign to shake and rumble or something, I had no idea that it would actually apply resistance to the wheel just like a real car ... heck, you can FEEL the grip on the tires ... it's incredible and i love it. Best purchase I have ever made.

What about wear an tear, Am I worrying too much when I turn down the FF to the minumum before I do fast races on the La Sarth track because of the increadible bumping from the high speed 370 kmh Maunsahln straight? I mean a 24 hour race with that going on every lap must destroy the FF motors?? I would prefer to run with it with the FF on as it is really enjoyable and more realistic.

thanks,
Ben

my dfp has taken a lot of abuse from playing Live for speed and richard burns rally and its still running pretty strong. no noticable weakening of FF..

I too had a Mad Catz, and loved it. Recently it quit working so I bought the DFP. It is a real different experience. I find it more difficult to use, and therefore my times have slipped a bit. I do however REALLY like the experience and I'm getting better all the time.....

one thing that sucks is that the rear wings/spoilers are all so limited!

there isnt a unique spoiler to any car brand. All the wings are only available in 1 wing shop? correct me if i'm wrong.

Hey why dont you try doing some of the license tests with the DFP, specifically the ones on the snow/ ice. I had trouble making the switch at first also but now I am twice the driver I was before and ive had this thing for a week. I went for golds with the DFP and that helped so much. just give it a whirl. good luck! 👍

Do you have to use your feet?

The reason for this question is that I am wheelchair bound and have no use of my feet. Is it possible to drive with the wheel using just your hands. I imagine that shifting is easy enough with the paddles, but can you use the buttons for gas and brake and still steer?

Thanks in advance for input on this subject...

I dont think the DFP in 900 deg mode would work for you:
When you turn the wheel more than 1/4 of a turn, it becomes very difficult to hit the paddles for a shift.... the buttons are a problem as well. If i need a gear mid bend I usually shift on the stick. Think you would have to try one, but I cant see how you could keep the power on round a tight bend and put enough steering lock in.

lestat2k02, yes - you need the foot pedals. I looked into this because my right foot is paralyzed. I have to use my left foot for accelerator and brake. I can't see any way that you could use the buttons for accel/brake since you need to turn the wheel so much for turns. Sorry.

I'm planning to buy a DFP, mainly because my MadCatz 2 is broken now and it's like sixth or seventh :indiff: . A good point to buy it is that it costs only 99€ in Finland, it's almost equal to dollars.

Where do you get DFP that cheap? I'm also planning to buy one, but the price has always been like 115€ at minimum.

But could you not remap the accelerate/brake functions using the ingame options?

don't forget everybody, with the DFP, to set your steering in the main GT4 options to "simulation" - you will see another leap forward in performance. the subtleties required are challenging, realistic, and rewarding.

How am I supposed to know in which Force Feedback level I am with this wheel and GT4. It doesn't show anything on the screen. The thing needs a LED screen or something.
