How am I supposed to know in which Force Feedback level I am with this wheel and GT4. It doesn't show anything on the screen. The thing needs a LED screen or something.

i think its already at 100% feedback AND 900 degree rotation because both lights are on. I think this only applies to gt4.

But could you not remap the accelerate/brake functions using the ingame options?
Probably, the point is more how do you keep the button pressed while winding enough lock on to get round a tight corner?
Would be lees of a problem with race cars on the fast tracks, but think of a road car on capri rally? Using the dfp without 900 deg mode is a bit pointless.

If you mean setting the 60 or 100% using the buttons on the wheel, its down to how many times the left led flashes. :)

Do you have to use your feet?

The reason for this question is that I am wheelchair bound and have no use of my feet. Is it possible to drive with the wheel using just your hands. I imagine that shifting is easy enough with the paddles, but can you use the buttons for gas and brake and still steer?

Thanks in advance for input on this subject...

lestat2k02, yes - you need the foot pedals. I looked into this because my right foot is paralyzed. I have to use my left foot for accelerator and brake. I can't see any way that you could use the buttons for accel/brake since you need to turn the wheel so much for turns. Sorry.

lestat2k02....you can assign gas/brake to just about any button. For example, you can assign gas to the 'X' button and brake to the 'square' button, but as pmgolf pointed out, it becomes difficult to actually find and use these buttons when you are not going in a straight line.

I believe that you can assign both gas and brake to the shift knob....pushing forward accelerates and pulling back on it brakes. I have poor circulation in my legs and I have gas assigned to shift knob (forward) for use only on the long straight at La Sarthe and on the Test Course. I also assigned reverse to the shift knob (back) because it is much easier to find than the 'triangle' button when the wheel is turned any which way but up. I really don't know if you can gradually apply gas using the shift knob because all that I use it for on those tracks is to keep it floored. I can still use manual transmission with the paddles behind the wheel. I hope that this answers some of your questions.

hi everyone, great forum! I recently got the DFP and it rocks!! My question is when you press on the d-pad left or right it's supposed to look left or right to see the car next to you, correct? It dosn't work for me. Am I supposed to set it up in options or something? Other than that everything else is great. I looked in options where you assign buttons but the look left, look right wasn't listed.

This only works if you are in the 'first-person' racing view, the one with the rearview mirror visible. If you're in the rooftop or external view, you'll only be able to press down to look back.

Hey i was wondering if anyone could maybe post some pictures or has some info on how to get the steering wheel part of the DFP and how to get to the controls. I have a cockpit set up and i mmad the handbrake and play to run the o button to the handbrake so i can do some ass drags with out sqrewing my self up turning.

Hi Chaps

My DFP has been working fine for about a week now, but last night decided to stop doing what it supposed to. Instead of doing the whole self test thing, it just flicks a bit left and right in a half ars*d manner with the left LED flashing slowly. Rebooting the PS2 and wheel makes no difference. I feel like it's mocking me. Any ideas.

Also, are there any races unlocked later in the game that will allow me to race my Caterham? Going sideways by myself is fun as far as it goes, but some competition would be nice.

Hope someone can help on the wheel thing.

Cheers.

Hello Lamboracer

The simplest way to use a external handbrake or external Push Buttons parallel to the DFP,
is by a "parallel" via Gameport connected Namco Arcade Stick Controller for Playstation .

Inside the Namco Arcade Stick are big solder joint for every Button.
There You can easy connect Your selfmade Hardware

If You like, on my Hompage are any inside-view Photos of a DFP

Just a thought, is there any way to detach the shift stick from the DFP base?

They shouldve made it detachable so you could put it on your chair's armrest or something :D

That would've been more authentic, and not difficult to manufacture, just a plastic clip on bit and a short bit of lead to keep it connected.

Hopefully Werner Winkels has already figured out a way to do this :D

A external Stick-Shifter You can to connect in parallel to the original DFP Stickshifter push-button's ( inside the DFP Wheel )

Only the DFP Paddle and the Stick-Shifter use normal push-button's

All other function keys use imprinted switches :indiff:
( Isnt easy to solder )

I'm used a industrial throttle lever from a electrical forklift truck :)

I was just looking at your homepage. Can't believe what you managed to do with the DFP 👍 👍
I am impressed, wow :) . Wish I could use some of your ideas but it is too difficult :(

Düsseldorf, mmm, not so far from where I live

I was ready to weld wiring to do my own Handbrake/reverse gear...
...I was very disappointed too when I saw all these stupid switches (impossible to weld) on the Sony game controller!

I was wondering if this Namco thing is compatible with PS2-GT4 game?
It seems to be for the PS1 only...
Can you confirm, please?

An other thing: 6 speed Shift gear box, no problem I can do it (i'm a mechanic guy)!
But the Servocontroller with six fixed positions with the "magnet disc", I have absolutely no clue how to do it ( I know almost nothing in electronics)!
Do they sell this kind of kits on local stores like Radio Shack?
Or can you built this unit for me?

most ps1 controllers work for ps2. and if you dont want to solder onto a sony controller you can try this: http://home.comcast.net/~spiffyshoes/DualShockHack/

Ok i've been looking around the most of this thread and I am really really really tempted by all the pics and stuff of the knew DFP  After looking on ebay the average price of them is about £70 and I simply don't have that much to spend on a wheel. So i've checked for the DF wheel which their is a few still at £0.99 with only one day to go but it's £9 delivery and the wheels havce been "refurbished" meaning they have been returned by unhappy customers which is my only concern but they should be fine.

Now on the DF wheel, is their any long term problems which may occur as I will be buying somewhere to put it on and hopefully I will be able to get some old chairs and get the wheel and pedals set up and I don't want my 2nd wheel to brake...:)

Thanks for your time.

The Namco Playstation1 Controller works fine with my Playstation2 👍

To the Servo controlled H-pattern shifter
I'm made the Servo-Controller by using a modified Pulse generator module for RC-Servo testing and a modified RC-Servo

I'm have attached to the Servo-Tester, 6 push-button's ( Each with with a permanent ohmic resistance )

If I push one of the push-buttons, the Servo drive to a fix Position as long as
I to push a other push-button, than the Servo drive to the new fix Position.

Two Reed-Sensor's and a small electronic to detect the direction of rotation and to arrange the Pulses to the Up-Shift or Down-Shift

If I change the Gears with my H-Shifter , ther is always a unavoidable delay :ouch:

It Works for GT3 but I think a good Paddle or Stick-Shifter is much straighter !

Maybe it works with GT4 better !?
GT4 to allow a faster Gear changing :)
But in GT4 I dont have tested the H-Shifter

Lamboracer
How delayed is the shift sequence? And can u tell me where you got these parts i cant pronounce or spell.

In GT3 was the shift sequence from first to top-Gear ( 5 Steps ) in ca. 1,5 - 2 sec.
A single Gear up or down was with ca. 0,5 sec. a little slower
( GT3 to give a pulse train speed limit . )

If the game and the timer-relais this to allow, the Servo can do all 5 steps in 0,4 sec.

It was any Jears ago, but the Raw Components I bought by :

SMD Servotester : http://www1.conrad.de

The external precision Potentiometer for thr Servo and the cogwheels for transmission : http://www.lemo-solar.de/

switches ...
http://www.reichelt.de/

But it is any Work to adjust :)

By the Way,

Gary DeRoy from http://www.slottweak.com/ to send me a E-mail any Time ago.
He to find a micro-controller that can do this without a fragile mecanical Part 👍

I think this is a better Way to do this

got a question.
If I want to change to wheel of the DFP by a real, bigger (diameter) wheel, could this create problems?? A bigger wheel means that I can apply more force. I don't know if the DFP motor and electronics is capable of withstand these ("extra") forces. :indiff:

I'm thinking about getting the Logitech Driving Force Pro wheel for my PS2 and GT4.

Is there a big difference between the Logitech Driving Force and the Logitech Driving Force Pro wheels?

Is the Pro worth the extra money?

Someone actually did that. I dont remember if it was here or in the RSCnet lfs forums. I suggest searching there and here.

And could you post back here if you find it? I'd like to know too, i didnt read too thuroughly.

thats not it :) . it was some guy who took off that whole rubber part, and then attached his own much bigger steering wheel.

There are no problems, only You to feel a weaker Force Feedback motion, by using a bigger Wheel diameter.

If You want to connect a selfmade Paddle Shifter, this is no problem too, but it isnt easy to connect the other DFP Push-Buttons to the new Wheel

I know the rubber grips give you a better grasp of the wheel, but after 12hrs (or so) of playing my hands get really sore from turning the wheel with the palm of my hand, blisters etc..- anyway, i was wondering if anyone know of some sort of mini steering wheel cover that'll make it more like, say, leather or something?

How about a "suicide knob"? Anyone remember those or know where one can be found? That would cut down on the wear on your palms.

Ok, I just bought a DFP with GT4 and I am blown away. I typed up a whole page on why it is so good but firefox crashed, I lost the whole post and now I can't bother typing it all over again :(

The gist of it was

1. gear shift lever is brilliant, it works perfectly, not sure what other people are complaining about
2. build quality of the whole unit is awesome, very smooth rotation and precision
3. 900 degrees is unbelieveable!
4. negative point - force feedback at max strength is no stronger than on the DF. this is still pretty strong though, I wouldnt want it any stronger actually
5. motor is still a tiny bit loud (still hear the whirring noise when cranking it fast)
6. pedals have had no problems so far but I am being extremely careful handling them
7. if you are playing with the controller you are missing out on the whole experience!

I think that about covers it.

I would like to thank PD and Logitech for bringing such a realistic and awesome driving experience for the first time to a home console.

Oh, and I think I said something about fearing for other motorists when I go driving after using this wheel, or something... :)
