Hey, you're on here so rarely nowadays. I'm into Mastodon, I like their style. Have they released more than one album? Because I only have the one.

Mastodon has a really cool style, self proclaimed "whale rock"... Very different than most metal, but just as hardcore... The drummer is just amazing...

I think they have 2 albums out... "Remission" and "Leviathan"...

I'm really into "Naked Burn", "Iron Tusk", "Seabeast", and "Blood and Thunder", at the moment... Great songs...

Anyone checked out Still Remains? Pretty awesome upcoming metalcore band. They're style is somewhat similar to All That Remains. 👍

You do the know the whole of "Leviathan" is a story album about Moby Dick? ;)
 
Ahh, you beat me to the Moby Dick bit, Shannon! Mastodon have a different approach to a lot of Metal bands at the moment, and I really don't mind it.

I've been looking out for them. But I really don't like All That Remains, I hate Phil Labonte's voice. Doesn't suit the music. He's probably the reason I don't like Shadows Fall, although I don't even like the new vocalist.

Yeah, as I said, I don't like most black metal... Although, most of the singing in black metal I can groove on... I just can't stand the "Cradle of Filth" vocal style...


Anyone into "Between the burried and me" or "Downthesun"?...

BTBAM have a really different sound, kind of a mixture of different genres (which I usually don't like too much)...

Some metal sucks, some metal is great. Simple as. And what do you listen to that's SO MUCH better?

caught them at ozzfest last night, they had a pretty good set. any metal fans in the US not getting themselves out to see this years show are doing a great injustice unto themselves.
 
Did anybody watch Conan O' Brien lst night? Max Weinberg said that he went to Ozzfest over the break, and he's a fan of Mastodon and Lamb of God.

That's a link to a local band here. There are some sample songs from their first CD. These guys have a lot of potential, I think their singer is the only real problem. I'm friends with the lead guitarist, he is a great player. I used to play guitar with him quite a bit, he's my age (18), and he has incredible speed. He's a a good metal player, but he is a great classical player as well, and that shows in some of the songs. Anyway, give 'em a listen and let me know what you think.

In all the reviews they are described as thrash metal, and I guess that is probably the most accurate description. They play with a lot of energy, and contrary to what most of the reviews say, I like the slower, more classically influenced parts. Those parts are when there is a real need for a more diverse singer.
 
What about them?

If I haven't mentioned them before, Quo Vadis and Bolt Thrower are some proper, slow-but-melodic and catchy Death Metal. 👍

Bah I started to listen to Diabolical Masquerade, Acturus and Trivium. They are all pretty awesome.

I've got Mastadon - Leviathan as well, but I haven't given it a good listen yet. Well i've got a couple of unlistened to Soilwork albums as well.
