The Metal ThreadMusic

IMO A7X 2nd album waking the falling is the best metal core album of all time. Perfect mixture of epic rifts, awesome vocals, Insane drums (RIP Jimmy) and face melting solos. Even if there not "true" metal, there's no doubt these guys can play ther instruments, plus them live is way better then studio.

You all should try these songs, they are all awesome
I'm a fan of Bathory, very good stuff.

Soilwork latest album, The Panic Broadcast, and I must say, it's a pretty good album and much much better than Sworn to a Great Divide (they're worst IMO).

While Sworn was pretty bad... I did buy the Limited Edition and Martyr is probably my favorite Soilwork of all time. Its pretty much perfect.

A few pages back there was a little Gojira mention here and there... So I've been re-addicted to them as of recently so I'll post my recent favorites.

Ignore the ****** Guitar hero crap.. its the only one of the whole song.

Such amazing stuff... Who knew the French could make such good music!

I love that album too, but in my opinion I think their the best metal band of today not of all-time cuz no on beats Metallica.

That is an awesome album, lots of great songs. You Won't See Me Tonight Parts 1 & 2 are a masterpiece.

On a different note I was playing Rock Band 2 the other day and played the song Panic Attack by Dream Theater and I thought it was an epic song. What album of theirs should I start with? Also what is a good Pantera album to get into?

For Pantera: All of them lol.
Get Far Beyond Driven, Cowboys from hell and Reinventing the Steel. You can also get their more earlier stuff like, Metal Magic, they were... er... 'more glam' back then.

Really Waking The Falling is the only album I have ever listened through completely loving everything they through at me. It was sad with city of evil, because although beast and the harlot, and bat country were great the didn't catch my attention. Although blinding in chains Is insane, and seize the day is one of my favorite power ballads ever (one of avenged's best solos too), but MIA is on my top 5 favorite songs of all time. REALLY CHECK OUT this song. If you like iron maiden this is a fantastic 9 min song. Best avenged solo ever. On YouTube watch the 300 vid along with this song. Then there self title album came along. This album was a musical masterpiece. Gunslinger is a beautiful song, along with scream. Even dear god, the country song is the most balling country song iv ever heard. Get to the solo and is lyrically beautiful. There newest album was good to, buried alive has an amazing intro, plus a metallic ending after a shredding solo. Save me is 11 mins of pure musical genius. Check these guys out if your into classic or hard rock, or just plain metal. Nothing but good things to say about these guys.

short story- check out a7x

Start with Train of Thought.
Others to check out...

Awake
Images and Words
Scenes From a Memory
Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence

My personal favorite DT song is As I Am, the first song on Train of Thought. Such a heart pounding guitar solo that morphs into Portnoy beating the leaving daylights out of his drum set.

All of them lol.
Get Far Beyond Driven, Cowboys from hell and Reinventing the Steel. You can also get their more earlier stuff like, Metal Magic, they were... er... 'more glam' back then.

Dream Theater not Pantera.

Personally, I thought that Vulgar Display Of Power was Pantera's best album. As far as DT, Train of Thought and Images and Words.

Don't know if these guys have been mentioned yet, but I am a huge fan of Behemoth. Inferno's drumming is ridiculous.

My favorite DT album is Scenes From a Memory, by far. But you probably want something heavier, so go with Train of Thought as Prosthetic suggested.

City of Evil was a mixed bag really. It had some of their greatest songs ever like The Wicked End, Sidewinder, MIA, and Trashed and Scattered. But it also had some of their weakest, Strength of the World, Betrayed, and Burn It Down. The self titled album was good all around but was different. Songs like Lost and Dear God were very experimental but I liked the way they sounded, and A Little Piece of Heaven is probably their best song ever. Nightmare was good too, my favorites from it were Natural Born Killer, God Hates Us (return to their roots), and Save Me was amazing. I agree, check out A7X.

Thanks for all of the recommendations guys! I'll start with Train of Thought for Dream Theater, and Vulgar Display of Power for Pantera.

Heres a prog band:

They're ok, but they could be better. I personally like this song because the idea of fighting one's demons as one that lasts forever.

Melodic Death band:

Amazing band.

...And Folk/Power metal band:

Blut im auge, stands for blood in the eye, and based on the translated lyrics (its in german), its about a falling in love with a girl that never showed up again.

Its songs like these that are almost perfect.

I've been listening to some Blind Guardian lately. I used to listen to them in the '90s on my walkman.

Not sure why I didn't grab any of their stuff during the last ten years.

I actually have their new album 'at the edge of time' I haven't listened to blind guardian's older stuff but i heard its good.

I'm really liking Sparzanza's new album, rather short though, only 36 minutes long(than again so are their other albums). Cover art is pretty creepy as well.

Anyone excited for Protest The Hero's new album Scurrilous?

Me. I'm a big fan of they're work and the leaked new song/single sounds good. :D

Album of the day/week to me as to be, and thanks to r2nyGT5, Periphery debut album.

It is a really awesome band. The clean vocals get in the way sometimes, but it is quite easy to get used to. It's difficult, though, to ignore those amazing Meshuggah riffs.

Yea man definetely its beautiful. Even when I like older stuff more but still its awesome.
Seeing Protest The Hero at April.

Anybody here likes some Lamb Of God? Havent seen a discussion about them here yet... except when I first mentioned couple weeks ago and the discussion died XD

OK, we get the picture. You like them.

Most unneccesary Comment of the week.
Sorry Omnis ;)

I like them, but I won't lie about anything here.

Album of the Day: Whitechapel "A New Era of Corruption"

Protest The Hero is a great band.. period.
To be different is good sometimes, like you see with Protest The Hero.

Well guys, after perusing all the great music you've all been posting I figured I'd bounce on over to youtube and see what was there for follow-up. I couldn't believe my luck when I found the entire album of Periphery had been uploaded. This'll hold me over til I can I pick it up in the next week or 2. The first thing I thought of was it sounds like Meshuggah and Dream Theater thrown into a blender and turned on to "crush"! Good stuff. Any other suggestions along these lines?

for people who haven't seen this yet^ Of all the 'map of metal' graph's i've seen, that one is the most informative.

Lamb of god is pretty good, though I only like one or two songs.

Periphery is pretty amazing, I'll listen to it and they'll play an awesome part and i think "how did they do that?". The energy of the riffs are also pretty amazing, its pretty fun trying to head bang to it while keeping up with the song.
