Because it was the Acura who was presented at the NAIAS not the Honda.
Sorry about that ... actually the are the same car.
I just thought Honda would be more suitable as (I believe) it is sold as a Honda across Europe and Asia and only as an Acura in the US
 
Yes, I agree but formerly I don't have any announcement regarding the Honda NSX at the moment. :embarrassed:
I think the car will be branded as a Honda in Europe and Asia and as an Acura in the Americas. Also GT6/7 should include the Acura and Honda branded models, to satisfy all players, similar to how they did with the 2013 concept

Okay, at the moment isn't going to happen.
Like I said there is no Honda NSX announcement made.
Only the Acura NSX will go into production.
Sorry, but for the Honda NSX we must wait ... be patience until there.

The Honda is definitely happening and there's been no announcement because Honda thought people could put 2 and 2 together.

They actually showed the concept at Geneva (I believe) with Honda badges, but are showing it first as an Acura as it was developed in America. The Honda badges will turn up later in the year.
 
Hate to say it but the more I look at this car, the more I prefer it over the new GT. The overall stance is just right.
The Ford GT looks way too wide. Almost as if someone smacked it with a fly swatter.

Also, yes the car will be sold overseas as a Honda. It's only sold as an Acura over here because who wants to buy a $150,000 Honda? It's the reason why Nissan doesn't sell as many GT-R's over here.

Acura is more like a luxury arm, selling some cars that the rest of the world doesn't get (RDX... I think... is one of them). Similar to Infiniti and Nissan.

Plus, a name as prestigious as the Honda NSX would certainly sell very very well.

You have your points, but the thing is that people want to buy a car that represents your own income. Why is the Porsche 911 not sold as a Volkswagen Beetle? Because people have associated Volkswagen as budget and low end. It's the same reason why the Kia K900 has had less units sold than the Morgan 3 wheeler. People have associated Kia with cheap and affordable. Plus, you can always take the Acura badges off and throw on Honda ones.

Acura may be seen as a Luxury arm (albeit cheap, I think), but the NSX name would tell any motor sport enthusiast that the car would be coming from a very reputable source, despite its price. The same could be said with Nissan and its GT-R (Nissan is associated with cheap cars, but the GT-R namesake changes this.)

And anyway, even budget/low-end car makers can go a little crazy sometimes, and vice versa.

(VW had the W12 Nardo Concept, which contradicts the fact that they are budget cars, and Aston Martin had the awful Cygnet, which contradicts the fact that they are large, opulent grand tourers.

-> First, this NSX debuted as an Acura first yesterday. While Honda is busy introducing its FCX (in Detroit) and getting the S660 roadster ready for production (in JDM land).

-> Second, unlike the original [NA1/NA2] NSX. This NSX will be made in Ohio as in the US. Infact, this will be Acura's first true sports car unlike the NA-body was just a simple re-badge. Honda will be the secondary brand for this NSX, not the other way around anymore.

-> Third, JDM-land had little involvement in regards to engineering this NSX. I can tell that this Acura is more tailored to the American buyer rather than its Global audience factor.

^ I can already predict its mediocre performance reviews on many buff-mags in Europe. Most European reviewers will definitely see this as a blatant copy to the R8 and i8.

Firstly, Honda is marketing the NSX as an Acura over here because Acura signifies class. If it was marketed as a GT-R, not many people would buy it. It's the reason why people would rather buy the F-Type and 911 over the GT-R. It's the reason why my friend bought a RS5 over a GT-R, even though the RS5 was near the same price. Roll up to a meeting in a Nissan? Nope. Also, Aston only used the Cygnet to keep the hippies in Europe happy. They needed to reduce their overall emissions so the Cygnet qualified.

Basically this. Half of YouTube is already calling the car a copy of the i8, even though the NSX is a completely different car. The NSX is a mini P1, whereas the i8 is a mini 918 Spyder.

^ Actually, its the other way around. The NSX is considered as a mini-918 simply because the way they implement its strict AWD system and a complete EV-mode characteristics and vice-versa.

-> The i8 on the other hand is similar to the P1 w/o the use of AWD. Mainly, the EV serves as a boost assist to compliment its turbo engine. And in full tap, the i8 is RWD once its EV motor is completely drained (as seen on the M4 vs i8 video somewhere).

EDIT -> Jalopnik had an interesting article in regards to the NSX potential engine upgrade in the near future. Since the NSX (like the LFA), did some last minute engineering changes. Given of its last ditch effort of placing its engine longtitudnal instead of the blue prototypes (and original NA bodies) transverse layout.

The thing is, would it be worth it? The HR10EG engine is only 490 HP, while the engine on the NSX will make more than that. The Twin turbocharged V6 would also be more efficient and, perhaps, effective than the V8 when it comes down to performance.

And what makes that so much desirable over having the 3.4L V8 HR09E engine (which it is based upon)? Just the fact that it was in the HSV?

I said that at the moment it's going to happen, not that it would never happen?
It will happen later this year for sure.
But now only the Acura NSX is confirmed.
