awesome shots vlad, i liek your b&w editing. the third from bottom is beautiful in all aspects.

Here are a couple nighttime shots I took just now. Just walked around the house with a tripe and my camera getting some shots...

Any comments?

Lovely b&ws, vlad. You really know your stuff... 👍

Exigeracer: probably there wasn't much light around, but those first two shots seem really underexposed to me. Also, watch out for your white balance since the first one is too orange.

Here's a new one from me:

Noise was NOT added in post processing. This is what I get from ISO 200... But in this particular case, I actually like it.

anyone using a Nikon D70 or D50?
if so can I see some of your pictures please:tup: :)

Take a look at my post on the previous page. All were taken using a Nikon D50 with 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses.👍

Erm....if you get that from 200 i dread to think what the photos from 1600 or so look like. :scared:

WOW Your pics came out so nice!👍 👍

Would you reccomend the D50? Im looking for a DSLR for next year or maybe even christmas. And Ive been looking at both the D50 and D70...

How is the normal lense that comes with the D50?

I'd recommend the D50, definitely. Right now the price has dropped really low and you can get the same kit as me for around £500 if you shop around. The lens that comes with it as standard is good for everyday use, but if you want to zoom in on anything past what the average human eye can see you'll definitely need the zoom lens. The standard one is only 18-55mm which gives both wide angle and tighter shots but for anything more you'll need the 55-200mm or something similar.

I've never really used the D70 but there's a nice comparison can be found below:

EDIT: The D70 has a LOT more noise in images than the D50 though. Even my friends noticed it.

If you wait a bit the price of the D50 should really drop. Nikon has discontinued the D50 and will be replacing it with a new model. The D70 does have alot more noise but it makes up for it in features. There's tons of threads/post debating on what to buy for an entry level DSLR.

I keep telling myself allright, don't edit anything until you get home and you can properly do it on a somewhat calibrated desktop. But I give in and edit on my laptop, only to go home and realize how poorly I did. I'll clean this up when I get home but for now:

Another thing, happy Thanksgiving fellow Canuckers

^hmm ic thanks for the info.

I can get the D50 for $719.99 CND right now so it seams good. Also one thing can you use the same lense between d50 and d70? or even the d80?

O yeah Happy thanks giving 👍

yep, any Nikon dslr will fit any Nikon digital lens and I believe any older slr lens (not too sure on this). Does that $719 come with a lens or is that body only?

Yeah comes with the lense heres what is says on the Bestbuy.ca website

Included In Box: Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL3, Quick Charger MH-18a, Video Cable, USB Cable UC-E4, Strap, Body Cap, Eyepiece Cap DK-5, Rubber Eyecup DK-20, Accessory Shoe Cover, PictureProject CD-ROM

and they have a special that you get a 1GB SD card with the purchase of the d50 so its really good right now.

The lens is the : AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED

That's a pretty damn good deal, i'd go for it. Only thing is, I wouldn't buy with the kit lens, I would buy the body and then buy a larger range lens like a Sigma 28-200 but that's just me. You can easily live with the kit lens it comes with and later upgrade with a zoom like previously suggested.

more on the artistic side of the photography fence. there's more on the way, alot of fall kinda shots.

Nice shots antihero! did you use any filters on those pictures? The playground ones seem to have a nice cyan colour cast over them and i was wondering how you did it. I'm guessing it was either early morning light, or you used a filter. Failing that, photoshop editing.

Either way they look amazing.👍

Bingo. It's a mixture of some photoshop plug-ins and colour balancing. I like to shoot for that film look sometimes, I feel on certain shots it adds a little extra. Thanks for the kinda words

Hot damn. I'm really loving those pale, washed out colors on the swingset shots. 👍 Maybe I'll go outside ( :scared: ) with my camera tomorrow...

Here's two shots i took today. The ambulance one is going to be entered for a 'split second' themed photography book in which i'm guaranteed 3 photos. :) :)

emergencymp6.jpg

I kind of took this by accident, as i followed the ambulance along i thought the camera was set to snapshot mode. Turns out it was in full manual mode with the exposure much longer than it should have been. So the effect was a mistake that turned out to be good.

This was set up by placing a table underneath the lights and trying to get steady upon it to take the shot in my graphics studio. I set the white balance to 'artificial light' to get the blue effect and with a bit of Photoshop work i enhanced the contrast.

Good stuff, antihero. That 3rd shot is cool as hell, nice and simple.

And I love that shot of the plants by the water, DM. The noise really works for me, too. :)

Here's a random one:

Lovin' the atmosphere of that shot, the grain and tones give it such a dark feel. What was it shot on?

I know that I posted these in my thread, but I thought that I may as well pop them in here too.

Nice set of first shots. I love the composition of the guys face, looking forward to more.

i dont know why but this feels really oriental to me, i think because it reminds me a little of old ukiyoe art.

Well I wanted to take night shots of my car. But it started drizzling outside. So, I just messed around inside the car.

sprite: Love these shots. The colouring on the first two (which you said elsewhere you had not PP'd) is extraordinary.
antihero: the first of your pair is intriguing. I love the composition and DOF, but I can't make up my mind about the blue tint.
speedy_2: nice shots. I like the zoom on the first one.

Speaking of blue tint, what do you guys think of this, in-camera B&W with in-camera blue tint? Absolutely no PP at all.

EOS 350d, 50mm, 1/60 @ F/1.8 (+2/3 EC), ISO 100

It does a good job. It's a nice soft blue, not too overpowering. Fits the image really well. Nice shot, that's some 50mm goodness.
