picked up one of my two new toys today!

:D

Giles, is the 580 really worth all the extra? Or are you going with the 580 because you can use it with other wireless slaves?

Moglet, instead of the star filter you could always try a longer exposure, it should still give you the same flare.

I've done that before, but i'm mainly going to use it for reflections from direct sunlight. I have a nice mushroom shot that would have looked awesome with a star filter on it!

I'm jealous!

I want the 580 because I'll pretty much only be using it for bounce, or at very long ranges. And the idea of using 430s in a distributed lighting setup controlled off the 580 makes me moist. But mainly I want the power.

Me = uber jealous of you guys and your new photog equipment. I don't think I'm gonna be able to order the the 50mm lens I want and have it get here before I leave. :(

Antihero: Is that your first prime? Is the Nikon 50/1.8 cheap like the Canon?

Second prime, i've got a 15mm fisheye. It's pretty cheap, and I wasn't expecting to get it. My father and I bought some things at Henry's, mainly for my brother (he's a photographer also). When we called home and told my mother of what we bought and for who she demanded that we go back and buy something expensive for myself. I guess she felt bad she was spending more on my sibling than me. I told my dad it's ok I don't need anything more yet he insisted based on the grounds that he would get in **** if he didn't buy something expensive for me, so 50mm it was.

 gotta love moms 👍

If I posted up my Christmas tree, you'd laugh your asses off.

We'd prefer a good photo of a s*** tree to a s*** photo of a good tree.

I'm going to photograph mine after Christmas, as I've lost the QR plate from my soon-to-be-retired tripod. You'll get to see what getting over-excited and dropping £65 on christmas lights will do to a 6 foot tree...

We don't even have a tree in our flat. I'll get some photos of my parents one when i go home next week 👍

I'll be sure to get some shots of my sisters tree and house, and hopefully some other houses around the neighborhood.

Then tonight it is...

But we're having BIG problem with out lights outside and Christmas lights on our tree right now. When stuff is on in the room, the power goes out once the tree is turned on. So I'll have to turn it on when the TV, lights outside are off :)

A few of my pics over the last several months.

Clean shots, some really great ones in there. That What do you shoot with?

Canon EOS-1D Mark II. Apparently.

Bloody good shots too, i'd love to get into photographing cars but the only offers i've had so far are shooting at Metro meets and they're not exactly the most photogenic things in the world :grumpy:

Some of the shots in there were taken with my back up bodies, Canon 20D & Canon 10D. I sold the 10D over the summer since I didn't need 4 bodies. I still have the 1D MKII, 20D and a 350D I use when I don't feel like carrying around a bunch of weight (1D MKII, 20D, 70-200 f/2.8L IS, 16-35 f/2.8L, various batteries and filters plus the bag weigh in around 35 lbs).

You've got to show me how you do your PP, ah.

Mine? There's not much to it, basically shooting in RAW and making minor tweaks. My PP is pretty simple compared to what others do with multiple layers, masking, etc.

I was talking to antihero. "ah" is our little pet name for him ;)

i've got a pet name? i feel loved. my pp techniques? you don't need them, that set you just posted was pretty solid. that's an awesome b&w conversion, and the last shot is just  . i use alienskin to create that old film look, that and alot of dodging and burning.

i'm excited to kinda move onto new things. hopefully i can get a digital pinhole working (how to here). here's an example from a fellow devart member clickme. i've also got a holga on the way so yeah, if you think my shots are weird wait until after that fatman in the red suit stops by.

The obligatory shot of the kids for the Christmas cards.

Changed the colour balance on the RAW file, then did levels and saturation in PS. Then did Filter > Reduce Noise to take out the noise from ISO800. Finally, since Jonathan's face was slightly out of the focus plane, I ran USM on his face only to sharpen up his facial features.
