On the other hand, everybody would complain how "unrealistic" it is, that the local GT4 drivers are as fast as the ones that are racing in the World Cahmpionship...
I don't think so...we, as gamers, expect a certain level of challenge when we play on hard, very hard etc...I don't expect a first person shooter on the hardest difficulty to have an easier start in comparison to the last stages of the game. Maybe the high end is more 'intense', but not harder.

So if 100% isn't 100% at the lower tiers. What is 100% at those tiers akin too?

IIRC, it is 5% difference between the lowest and the highest tiers. What I know for sure is that the scaling is only present in career. So if you drive a single race, 100% AI means 100% AI, no matter what car. Same will probably go for the custom season, once that feature (that imho should be in, in the first place!) gets added.

And @kkdrummer: Besides what Bealdor said, not every design decision was discussed at length with the community in a 50+ pages thread. Of course not, otherwise the game would still be nowhere near finished. This is something that the members just didnt realize until it was too late.

Maybe that's because you're not fighting other soldiers in different leagues. ;)

Custom season!? That would be awesome!

Thanks for clarifying on that!

Nope, you fight different weapons not soldiers...but hey, we will have to wait and see. 5% does not sound too bad and if they are planning to release a custom season (and they do it soon) it will all be ok! =]

Winning at Donington by 27 seconds worries me , I hope your just a really good driver !

Maybe instead of derailing this video thread it could become it's own topic?

I don't buy the idea that the earlier seasons are supposed to have weaker AI for the sake of authenticity With the exception of the road cars, every car and championship we've seen are Professional championships - there isn't any club racing in Project Cars. While it's perfectly reasonable to say that the gap from fastest to slowest should be greater in a lower tiered series, that doesn't at all mean that there shouldn't be any competition.

Maybe it's best to put it this way: The lower formulae will be for the more casual racer, where as the formulae from GT3 on wards will be for the more advanced racer.... Although it'll be a big shame if the AI turns out to be too easy....I was hoping of having a few good competitive races with the DTM cars, but if the AI has been 'dumbed down', then i won't be able to! :(

But isn't that *exactly* how the SP of an FPS is designed? A few relatively easy introduction levels with fewer enemies with less powerful weapons and less armor? It's hard for me to recall any FPS that did this differently.

Not saying that a racing game should be the same as an FPS BTW. Like I said in the other thread, if it's a really obvious thing, I'm sure it will be adjusted.

The last Wolfenstien would beat you over the head from start to finish on the hardest setting.

Then those people would have the option to lower the slider to a more level difficulty compared to how they run. That should be the entire point of the slider. 100% SHOULD be almost impossible to beat. It should be for the best of the best. No "average" driver should be able to beat the AI at 100%, period.

I am playing the final "gold" build and I started with the Clio cup at the weekend. Career is not locked.
I could get pole easily and won one main race at Donnington by 27 seconds.
I was disappointed by the lack of challenge with pro handling and no assists. It really did ruin my enjoyment.
I'm now almost done in GT 5 in the Ginetta junior and it's been largely the same story. Pole is almost a certainty and the only reason I'm currently 2nd in the championship with 2 rounds left is due to some mistakes that have cost me points.
I have enjoyed career so far but the difficulty level has seen me load up Assetto Corsa for challenging races.
Haven't tried the likes of GT3 yet though.

Several days ago I read an interview with Ian Bell @ SMS, where he stated that Project Cars will allow [little sally or joey to become a "hero", and "champion" the first time they open up the game on Christmas morning and play it].....I am paraphrasing his comments because I could not locate the article again. ..........Serious Racing Game AND little Joey wins on his first try? ..........I look forward to experiencing first hand just how PCars seems to think they have accomplished that. Keep us updated on your findings...Trux..thanks................................:nervous:.

Very simple:
Serious racing: AI level 80% and higher with (mechanical) damage, penalties and full race length
Allow little kids to win races: Ai level 20% and no damage/penalties, 3 laps per race

I don't think you can change the length or races in career mode, penalties are always forgiven (have you seen any videos where the driver got a penalty for crashing, cutting corners etc?) and I don;t think this fixes the issue with the AI in career mode.....again we should move to the career topic and leave this for videos.

WOULD YOU GUYS MIND POSTING YOUR CAREER POSTS ON THE RELEVANT TOPIC PLEASE? did not mean to shout =p

One last thing: You can change the length of every single session in career mode before it starts

Edit: To get back on topic, here is an OLD video showing a DQ for not doing a drive-through penalty:

Re. the career AI difficulty, or lack thereof in the start, please remember that this is not an inherent "fault" of the AI, but most likely just a scaling issue. That is, it's easily adjustable, a "five minute fix" (metaphorically), when/if the time comes to compensate for this.

(Sorry to prolong the OT, perhaps the postings about this can be split off into a separate thread or the career thread?)

even though I was only using my phone, that xbox stream looked pretty solid. should be decent on all platforms at least.

Just watched the stream and I have to say it does look great, but those guys did no justice to the game by having all assists on and no damage, along with the racing line and AI set to 50%. They were terrible drivers and didn't show off the real physics of the game. I could see people actually being turned off by the way they presented it.

Someone wasn't really impressed:

Seems fair enough. I'm not expecting a perfect game, but if they can avoid game breaking issues at first I'll be ok with it as long as things get fixed as quickly as possible. I'm also coming from a console perspective so I don't have the experience of all those other PC sims to compare to. If it can beat the pants off of Forza then I'll be very happy.

That last video seems a little harsh to me for relatively nit-picky bugs -- I remember in Gran Turismo 4, the AI would bump the guardrail on the last corner of the Nordschleife before the start of every race, and Enthusia's AI would plow off the outside of the first corner on that track, among a few other quirky corners. This was the PS2, so there were no updates.

It's stuff to fix, but it doesn't fall below my expectations.
