i saw a testarossa, i think. it was a red ferrari going 50mph the other way and i was going 50mph and i went to fast-autos.net and that was the closest match. ive recently saw an NSX parked at a bank, which isn't too common in thew the chicago suburbs. i dont count cars ive seen in an auto show. everyone goes to see them.

Around here they're ten a penny.

My brother currently drives one of the 442 Impreza RB5s (444, but no 13 or 113 were made) - 001 is owned by Richard Burns. He'll be switching to one of the 555 Impreza WR1s at the end of the month.

Awesome, have you ridden in it yet? and why are there no number 13 or 113?

Yep. Under full acceleration I felt the blood draining to the back of my head.

And as daan said, the number 13 is perceived as unlucky - this is the excuse given, although I can't really see it for #113...

If u visit Car shows there are a lot of Prototype cars. ive been to loads of car shows, and Ive seen so many different cars, that I cant remember, except for the Enzo (love).

- Jaguar F1 car
- Ferarri F1 car
- BMW F1 car
- Jaguar F type
- Ferarri Enzo (and more Ferarris)
- McLaren F1
- Mercedes SLR
- Audi LeMans car
- Bentley LeMans car
- Lamborghini Diablo (SV)
- Lamorghini Mercielago
- Lamborghini Gallardo

- Subaru Rally Car
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Rally car (evo 8 or 7, dont remember)

- all kinds of Porsches main one is the GT2 Got to sit in it, sweeet
- Jaguar Daimler Century(jaguar + bentley +daimler) build only 200 times, my dad owns it

Yeah I guess those are the rare ones, there could be more, but I cant find my pics from my car shows, well not all of them.

I don't think F1 cars should be mentioned... There are a bunch of us on these boards that have been to F1 events, so there goes the list! I can't start naming the last 5 years of F1 cars... :D

Got that ride in the "Red Head". Ooooooooooooh man! Lotsa-power. The owner said he'll take me out again next week if there was less traffic. Less traffic+48someodd HP=:D:D:D

Yeah, I guess it a lot of you have seen a lot:)

Well I could count all the ferarris and Jaguars and Porsches and whatever, but thats too much:D

Another rarity I remember from my youth: A "certain mayor" of Carmel by the Sea (He starred in the movie "Play Misty for me") used to love a little Italian Ristorante' in my little town of Marina, CA. Used to drive up from Carmel in his Countach to grab a bite.

One of the Docs at my hospital also drives an NSX on Sundays.

One of my old patients has a daughter and son-in-law that owns five Corvettes. One of them is in Purple "pace car livery" with Yellow Mag wheels. (It is indeed interesting looking, but very hard to lose in a big parking lot.) and I've never seen another like it.

I don't believe there's more than 15,000 in total, and they've been in existence since 1991...

NSX's are rare, you might not think so if you live near a guy with one but like Famine said, there isn't many of them.

I think it was live4speed who said there were around 6000-8000 Built i think thats what he said.

Lambhorgini Murcielago - outside Finchley Road
Lambhorgini Countach - Burnt Oak
Ferrari 486M - Mill Hill Broadway
A few Nsx's and R34s mainly around Golders green
Hummer H2 Stretch - Picadilly Circus

Thats just a few of em!

well, they're rare in the chicago suburbs! but i topped that today, this is the rarest car ive seen yet in the public, parked or driving.

NEway, i saw a yellow 60s/70s loooking car that looked like an lamborghini Miura (ive never had the privalage of seeing a Lambo thats not in a dealership or Car show) parked in the fridays parking lot, so naturally i turned off to see it. as a come in into the parking lot, the guy just left. defeated, i turned around and got back on my previous path. then, after the next stoplight, it pulls up beside me. i saw the logo on the front and it wasn't a lambo. I had never seen this logo b4, so i let it go in front of me so i could see the back. It was a 1972 DeTomaso Pantera!
pantera.jpg

ive never heard of this make or model, so can anyone fill me in on this italian car company? all i know is that has a Ford v8 in it, which i learned at fast-autos.net (my 1st destination to search for unusual cars i see). is it a very rare car?

I'm pretty sure that the earlier Countach's were based on that car... I think they went belly-up some while ago. I'm no expert, but I'm sure that there will be a few poeple on this board that could help you out. At first glance it looked like that old Mustang Mach 1 I think...

De Tomaso were an Italian company founded by the Argentinian Alejandro De Tomaso in 1959 building first racing then road cars.

The Pantera (which is Italian for Panther) was launched in 1970, having been styled by American-born John Taajara of styling house Ghia (which De Tomaso and Ford owned at the time).

The car was a co-development with Ford (hence the Ford V8 that powered it).

Spec wise:

5.7 litre V8
310 bhp @ 5400 rpm
Manual 5 speed ZF gearbox
0-60 6.5secs (European cars)
0-60 7secs (US cars - due to changes made to meet emmisions regs)
Top speed 150mph

Ford cut its losses in 1973 but De Tomaso continued to produce the Pantera in a GTS guise. The V8 was upped to 350 bhp, top speed was up to 175 mph and 0-60 for all markets down to 5.6secs.

The model was sold right up to 1990, with 7260 being built.

The early versions suffered from reliabilty issues, so much so that one owner is rumoured to have shot his car when it would not start. The owner? Elvis.

As a company the are still very much in existance and a good source of info is the website

http://www.detomaso.it/gb/index.html

At the least you will have fun with some of the Italian - English translations.

This site also contains a few Pantera videos.

In "Middle of Nowhere, KS" NSX's are not an everyday sight.
When I lived on the Monterey Peninsula, there were a couple of Panteras running around. One had a license plate that said "ATHIEF" I never asked the guy what that meant. He was probably a lawyer.
