The world is obscure  not only that but those few US racers that REALLY want a SC have their events at half past food-when-it-leaves-body in the night :)

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've had an opportunity to post. My computer had some issues, but I think it's back. (I'm backing up my files just in case though.) Anyway, to those awaiting evaluation. (Strider and Audiman come to mind.) I've accepted both of your FR's. Let's work on planning some time to get together for the quick test.

Rally and Matti, all that you need to do to become Escort certified is an escort test where you lead a car back to pit road as other drivers are racing. We will need a bit of people for this. I'll have to plan the exact date later unfortunately. At the moment, I'm quite tied-up going with an Indy 500 replay. I have to give the official results for that race.

Sorry, I don't have anything for you this weekend at the moment. Spread the word about the club and you might be able to find something. I'd also recommend looking in the Spot Races section as well. There might be someone in need there.

So how does this thread work with hiring safety car drivers? I am interested in becoming a "licensed" safety car operator but I need a little more insight. Thanks!

EDIT: I can't make commitments on the spot I have a jumbled schedule.

You follow the registration process listed in the OP. Basically, we organize a time to get together and I give you a few basic tests.

I can probably help with "keep doing laps and keep that car goodlooking" on Saturday afternoon US time :)

I would like to become a licensed Safety Car driver:

PSN: redbullrider20
Time Zone: US Eastern
Categories: Opening Lap, Caution Laps, Escorts (not sure how the escorts work but I'm interested) I can not work at endurance events.
Availability: Weekends from around noon to 6 p.m. Eastern time.
Other Notes: I can not make immediate commitments and I do own mu own safety car. For evaluations, I will add the one who is evaluating me and whenever we are both online and available (not in a league race), I will be more than happy to do the testing.

I'll sign up, used to always do pace car duties, easily meet requirements.

PSN: Silent7Sniper7
Time Zone: UK, GTM +0
Categories: All
Availability: any time after 5pm

Accepted, and that would be me.

Accepted, send me an FR. By the way, I just want to make sure you understand something about "All" for your category. "All" includes Super Endurance. So you could make yourself available for 24+ hour races?

Congratulations to redbullrider20 for passing the Opener exam. I'm fairly certain he'll pass the Caution one as well, we just ran out of time due to an event he had to attend.

I'll need to organise my test sometime during this week or weekend, Peelster, I'll look out for you on PSN. BTW, what times are online? (GMT)

This week has been unusually busy for me. I should be free this weekend. Give me a time and I'll make sure I'm on. My only restriction is day, it must be this Friday or later. If that's not soon enough let me know and I'll try my best to arrange something.

Annoucement: I've updated the OP to include the url for the Liberty Challenge event at Indy Road Course. Sorry for the delay. The reason for the delay is that I've had a few interruptions to deal with this week, including one when I was creating the thread for the Liberty Challenge. Pace speed will be 50 mph (about 80 km/h). We will have Cautions and Wave Around. It will be 3 separate races. If you would like to take this event, read the thread that is linked in the OP and make a post.

I have also received a suggestion via PM to include a basic procedure for pacing in the OP. While it does depend on the race type, track, and what the event organizer wants, I'm sure I can draw something up.

As much as I'd really like to, it's still a bit too early for me to race this late, if that makes sense, come summer holiday at my dad's place there might be greater chances.
If we're anyway doing some "exams" this coming weekend, can I also do my escort training?

I don't see why not, as long as we get enough people to drive around the track as you're doing it.

Anything later than friday is good for me!

Hey Peelster let me know when we can finish the certification testing. Sometime in the evening would be preferred.

Whenever you're available. Give me a day and time (other than Wednesday) and I should be free.

Also, if I could have either Rally or Matti certify Strider, that would be great. I think he's 14 hours ahead of me and it seems like I'm going to have a hard time getting to him.

If it's just the usual stuff I might be able to, but, I don't know if Matti has a mic, I don't 👎

Yeah, it's just the basic caution one for the time being. Just make sure that he can hold a steady speed, keeps a reasonable pace speed on road courses and can keep the car on track, knows about good pull off areas. Do the driving under damage test as well. Pretty much the same test that I gave you. Except now instead of Laguna Seca I recommend Indy Road for the road course. Mainly because of the s-curve section. I feel it's a bit more difficult then the corkscrew at Laguna. Especially because the track surface is a bit strange. I'm not entirely sure what it's made out of, but it doesn't feel like standard tarmac. Pace speed there should be 50 mph.

If you have any questions let me know and I'll try to help as best as I can. I wish I could do it myself but that 14 hour difference is a pain so I figured you guys in Europe might be able to help out.

Sometime this weekend.

Alright, keep me posted when the weekend rolls around. I actually have less plans then usual for this particular weekend, so that works great.

Hey Peelster, whenever you get around to updating the OP to show that I'm certified please change my availability and comments to day the following. "Available on most weekends but can not make immediate commitments." Much appreciated!

EDIT: I can drive the Safety Car for your IndyCar series... If it runs late I might have to leave early though.

That's fine, the next two races are most likely just opener because you might not even have to come out at all. The Daytona race will be shorter and that's the one that it's more important for you to stick around.

redbullrider20 Monterey Grand Prix Review:
Speed: Smooth and steady and he knew when to adjust it.
Pulling off for Restarts: No problems whatsoever.
Driving Line: Seemed good to me. I was in the back a lot and I haven't had a chance to watch the replay yet.
Knowledge of Process: There was a little bit of confusion between drivers about what should happen for the wave around. It was discussed briefly and it seemed to work out just fine.
Attitude: Extremely helpful. Helped make some calls when he could see and I couldn't.
Patience: Drove around during qualifying after the opening pace lap, which didn't really affect anything, but I sort of wish he didn't. He pulled over when I asked. During the race he made himself busy by helping to call Sectional Cautions by looking at the minimap.

Overall I believe that redbullrider did an excellent job!

I would like a pace car driver at 75mph for Daytona Superspeedway! The date will be June 30th at 5:45 Eastern, it is two seperate races, a 125 lapper and then a 80 lapper. We only need the car for opening and cautions! Thank you! Much appreciated! Please add "SundayCupLeague". With a message saying Pace Car Driver
