If anyone is interested you can watch this presentation by Mike Caviezel regarding car sounds in games:
In my opinion Mike is the main man and things can only get better with him at the helm.

im not sure if they had pulled out everything on the media release, if they are, then i am really not impressed.
You said you couldn't believe anyone would think gt sounds good, especially given the competition. I thought that was directed at me.
My apoligies. I clearly assumed what you meant wrongly.I did, & it was. However, where did I say that you were praising "GT sounds on the same level as other games"?
That Bugatti sounds actually really good.
Hoping that's just the beginning![]()
Here is another take on the sound from the auto journalists at Evo magazine:
"Finally, after a multitude of disappointments, Gran Turismo appears to have sorted its audio out. It might peg itself as the ‘real driving simulator’, but having a Le Mans car that sounds like a hairdryer doesn’t really do justice to that title.
While playing the preview we made sure to drive cars that we’d actually driven in real life. The Golf GTI was close to the real thing, but the GT-R was absolutely bang on. Gone is that strange flat drone that Gran Turismo used to love so much, instead the GT-R’s twin-turbo V6 actually sounded like the real thing."

Accuracy > detail. Let's focus on that first.Just saw the first few mins up until the Z06 on Brands.. is this some kind of sick joke? Irrespective of the tech or approach they are using this time around, that car sounds like typical GT5/6 sounds with no depth, changes in pitch or tone. Completely fake and robotic. Sorry, this is very disappointing to know. I hope they sort it all out before release.
I think this is something that can be implemented with AES.backfire? i havent seen/heard any..... so can we speculate they are doing something with it? as it was pretty poor on GT4/5/6
Not sure that's a fair comparison as Its not even the same car in both videos AND the real ones don't even have the same sound:

That slightly digital tyre squeal has also gone. It does need more volume though and that irritating background music has to go.
Can I just point out that as we saw in the roadster vid there is clearly different levels of tire noise going on at the moment for whatever reason. Not sure I'd trust someone giving impressions on the sound package that also said this:
Always been the case. Comfort tires don't make the same noise as racing tires. Can I just point out that as we saw in the roadster vid there is clearly different levels of tire noise going on at the moment for whatever reason.
Those roadster tyres didn't sound anything like the gt6 comfort tyres.Always been the case. Comfort tires don't make the same noise as racing tires.
But you didn't mention the pitch or tone before you said, "different levels of tire noise". Yes the sample used is clearly better IMO, and a big improvement for the most part. Not sure if that has anything to do with cockpit view or not as most games use a more muted tire sound for cockpit view. Those roadster tyres didn't sound anything like the gt6 comfort tyres.
The engine sounds are pretty good imo... what they need to do is mix it up with sounds from transmission, breaks, exhaust etc and add reverb, doppler effects and add a slight randomness to the engine revs. The gear transitions are currently sounding too soft. I dont mind the tyre screeching (as long as they can make it sound good) it replaces the lack of SOP sensation when playing a sim.
You know what is perplexing to me about PD's sounds? They managed to make some good sounds way back in the GT2 era:
Compare this to the Shelby in GT6:
Can you at least wait until you've heard the final product of AES before you say stuff like that?wish PD would just admit to not having the skill or manpower to doing sound
Can you at least wait until you've heard the final product of AES before you say stuff like that?
Sorry itsn't AES just a file encryption standard? i keep reading about this AES since GT6 like it was the long waited solution to audio problems but i still dont see it...Can you at least wait until you've heard the final product of AES before you say stuff like that?
Me too, i am not sure what AES is in GT6. Can someone explain?Sorry itsn't AES just a file encryption standard? i keep reading about this AES since GT6 like it was the long waited solution to audio problems but i still dont see it...
