Sunday will see our final Sunday practice session at Suzuka. Room will open at 8.00pm for several short races. I will try and find some time to post a few pics of the Monaco race over the weekend. Its been a busy week, and I havnt had the time, so I wil do my best to get some on in the next few days.

Cobani's Race Report 7

The build up to the Monaco race was great and a PB of 1:38.500 assured my 7th pole of the season.
The race unfortunately wasn't as satisfying as the first part was messy,
but during the race the enjoyment came back and I felt like a fish in the Monaco-harbour.

A good quali is one thing, but the first corner could make or break the race ...

SC_Race7_002.jpg

Monaco is 'Go' and all are searching for that little bit of clean track ...

SC_Race7_003.jpg

All got through cleanly on the run up the hill ...

SC_Race7_004.jpg

Cobani leads Jamesy and Third ...

SC_Race7_005.jpg

Goodwolf catches up to the front pack ...

SC_Race7_006.jpg

Three wide into the chicane for the first time, dissaster imminent ...

SC_Race7_007.jpg

Pre-occupied with Jamesy's unfortune and my possible role in it, I started loosing concentration ...

SC_Race7_008.jpg

Third took full advantage, but Cobani was on his (w)heels ...

SC_Race7_009.jpg

The pressure was on Third, but with no mistakes, no clean pass was attempted ...

SC_Race7_010.jpg

Goodwolf was never far away ...

SC_Race7_011.jpg

Another mistake in the making by me, leaving me in third ...

SC_Race7_012.jpg

At the front the leaders seemed glued together from my point of view,
smoking and sticking all through the lap.
(I'm sure it was a connection problem, as it looked as dirty as their cars ;), but we are all gentlemen racers)

SC_Race7_013.jpg

Keeping my distance ...

SC_Race7_014.jpg

The battered cars of the front runners ...

SC_Race7_015.jpg

Cobani navigating the Swimming Pool ... (really, I'm the orange pixel!) :sly:

SC_Race7_016.jpg

Pitstops did not change anything, but my mind was clear ...

SC_Race7_017.jpg

The classic 'F1-shot' on full pace...

SC_Race7_018.jpg

Cobani chasing Goodwolf for second ...

SC_Race7_019.jpg

A small kiss with the barrier by Goodwolf ...

SC_Race7_020.jpg

Going into Rascasse with full pressure on ...

SC_Race7_021.jpg

Goodwolf a little wide, Cobani with the better line ...

SC_Race7_022.jpg

Gentlemen-racing at it's finest at the final corners ...

SC_Race7_023.jpg

With very few laps left, all eyes are set on the leader Third ...

SC_Race7_025.jpg

Flying though Casino ...

SC_Race7_026.jpg

With an empty tunnel in front, connection problems prohibited what could have been
a fantastic finish ...

SC_Race7_027.jpg

The barriers were never far away ...

SC_Race7_028.jpg

The track pointing Cobani in the right direction ...

SC_Race7_029.jpg

Whether Cobani was driving in the park ...

SC_Race7_030.jpg

Going downtown ...

SC_Race7_031.jpg

Or navigating the harbour ...

SC_Race7_032.jpg

Taking victory after a very awkward Monaco race is always special ...

Closing comment:
Goodwolf and myself had yet another brilliant battle and a special mention to Jamesy as he fought his way back to second after being last at the first lap. đź‘Ť

Thank you for for your time as this was a long read, bring on the final race! :mischievous:

Fantastic pictures and race report Cobani.đź‘Ť Some very spectacular shots of Monaco, as well as Third_reign's and Goodwolf's very dirty Lotus's. I am looking forward to the final race, and tonight's practice.

Guess the connection Zagreb->Germany is a horrid one, since I couldn't see Goodwolf throughout the race. The extremely dirty Elises (and my supposed flying session) might be due to some crossed paths.

DC issues has been found, my Router keeps clogging up, causing the DC and few days later for my LAN to break down. Might be time for a new one...

TR I can race with other people and friends from Germany so I don't now why we can't see each other no matter what I do. It was all good at Tsukuba. To bad because we would have a great fight.

Great report as ever Cobani. đź‘Ťđź‘Ťđź‘Ť

btw so was I lucky to record a documentary about Senna. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1424432/ It was broadcasted by the swedish television.

You guys has probably seen it many times, but for me it was the first time. What a fantastic documentary! Senna was quite something.

The very best, in my humble opinion.
Allready 18 years ago ... remember it like yesterday.

Did not have time to practice in advance, so tonight will be interesting!
Race you tonight! :mischievous:

Last nights practice session was a good taster of what to expect at Suzuka next Sunday. 8 turned up for several shorts races, and as the session went on, the times started to come down. Omnius joined us late into the session, and its only fair to say that his driving was slightly impaired, so to save him from any embarrassment, I have left his time off the table.

Sunday Cup race 8 practice results.

JAMESYBOGRAT...2:09.001
DOWLIN39...2:09.425
COBANI...2:09.558
COBRIUS...2:10.724
ADE320...2:12.988
ROSENLUNDAREN...2:14.003
TROTTERLOVER...2:14.226
PN-OMNIUSALX...no time set

Now to the interesting bit. Cobani is just 1 point ahead of Jamesy in the championship, so a win here would make him the champion. If Jamesy was to win the race, and Cobani came second, this would put them on equal points, although Cobani would become champion as he has the most race wins for the season. However if the race results were in the same order as last nights practice results, then Jamesy would become the champion, by just 1 point.

Oh so if I am as quick or even quicker than last night then I could make a few people upset :P  Well also depends if Third and others have the pace as well.

My Pace is 2:10:mid over 7laps, fastest so far 2:10.102 driven on the 8th lap with 80% tires. was only getting a hang of the breaking points further on. More improvements to come. Right now the S curves give me a bit trouble with gearing, need to shift a bit too much, Spoon curve also has a bit of problems on entry, on 4th I run wide, in 3rd I'm too slow.

Edit: Times off by a minute! Time sure flys

Well fellas, this Saturday will see our last final short race practice session before Sundays last race of The Sunday Cup. When I decided to do this event, I did not think it would work as well as it has. Every week you have given up your time for races, practices and more practices. You have posted times, compared best laps, Thrown the gauntlet, and raced like real gentlemen. Thanks to all of you for the competition, the banter and making the Sunday Cup, THE SUNDAY CUP!!

Loved every minute of it and we will make it a 'Grand Finale'!

Will be on tonight for the final preparation to try and go for Sunday Cup Glory tomorrow. :mischievous: (The final gauntlet has been thrown ... ;))

Will my leading streak cut short by a DC continue, or will i post my second victory to mess with the point leaders?

To be honest i wouldn't mind a second season on the Elises, maybe even the 111RMs if things need to be changed up. The car is very fun and makes good racing, one of the few where my long run settings are very good.

Thats good to hear. I have been doing a bit of backround testing for season 2 over the last few days. After Sundays race I would like to use the thread to discuss what everyone would like to race in next. I had come up with 1 idea, but that could be put on hold depending on what everyone would like to use. Maybe we could even use both Elise's and the standard motorsport Elise (exige) and have a mixed grid, like the real Lotus Elise Trophy. http://racecarbuzz.com/2011/11/lotus-elise-trophy-2012-calendar-announced/

...and here's me getting excited with idea 1 (for historical reasons!) đź‘Ť

You can still get excited, nothing's set in stone just yet. There's lots of testing to do before SC2.
I'm sure with whatever you come up with it will be great. Thanks for being a great host. đź‘Ť
Thanks goodwolf. It has been a pleasure.

Hey guys. Been testing away here for tomorrow evening's race. Is it standard for the Elise to understeer? I can't get the back to step out at all, which is what I prefer when driving - makes it more fun :) Instead, mine turns acceptably under mild braking, then when I release the brake, she pushes her nose out a bit, before getting the grip to turn again. Quite frustrating.

I don't want an exact tune off anyone coz I wanna be able to learn suspension physics for myself, rather advice or pointers in the vague direction of better understanding.

My current vague setup is....

Height F:low R:high
SpRate F:soft R:med
DampExt F:low R:high
DampCom F:low R:high
ARBs F:low R:high

Camb F higher than R
Toe F: -ve R: +ve
Brake F:high R:low
DwnFrce F:high R:med

What am I doing wrong? What should be lower/higher?

R063R, there is a short race practice at 8.00pm tonight, so come along and maybe jamesy can give you a few pointers.đź‘Ť

well roger if you can make it to the practice i should be able to give you a setup that might help(has helped ADE and OMNIUS in the past)đź‘Ť

Excellent practice session tonight, I really enjoyed it. I have not had a chance to view the replays yet. I do know that I managed to trim over 3 seconds off of my best time from the last practice, with a 2:09.6xx. Well chuffed with that. Can't wait for the final race tomorrow now.

As you probably may have gathered, I was unable to make practice tonight  Was out for a feed with friends and then to see Avengers for the second time ;)
