Great practice tonight at Indy road. Im happy with my set up at both Daytona and Indy. We also managed a few races at Daytona Super speedway. This did prove that there is a need for the pace car at the final track of the evening. The racing here is super intense, with speeds of over 240mph being reached. Close pack racing will be intense, and the slightest slip will call for a pit stop. But please remember, we have 2 races before we get to Daytona Super Speedway, so look after your cars before the final race to minimize deterioration of the power.

Please remember to refer to the rules on the OP regarding the use of only 1 car for this event. Make sure you have rebuilt your engine before entering the lobby on Sunday.

Final practice will be tomorrow from 8.00pm, and we will have last try's at all 3 venues, with pit stop practice in each race.

Awesome final practice session last night. It was great to have Pasm and Spy join us in the 97T. Tonights event will be held in a normal private lobby, not the club lobby. Please see the timetable in the above post regarding lobby opening and race times. Please try to arrive as early as possible, so we have a chance to sort out any lobby issues.

Over the past few weeks we have invested a lot of time preparing or this, and hopefully everyone should have 3 set ups ready for this evening.

Start procedures.

Race#1. Rolling start. Fastest first from qualifying. Follow the BMW pace car in grid order, single file, until the bus stop chicane. Phillip will hold back, to try and get everyone into the chicane before he reaches the exit, where he will peel off to the left. The green light to race is when you exit the bus stop.

Race#2. Rolling start. Reverse grid from race#1 results. Follow the BMW pace car in grid order, single file, until the pit entry, where Phillip will peel off to the right. The green light to race is when you cross the white line across the track on the straight, next to the pit entry lane.

Race#3. Rolling start. Reverse grid from race#2 results. Follow the BMW pace car in grid order, single file, until coming onto the straight, from the banked turn. Phillip will peel off to the left. The green light to race is when the pace car has left the main track, as you come onto the straight.

Points will be awarded to racers, with 16 points for 1st place, 15 for second, 14 for third, etc, for all of the races. Total results will be posted after the event.

Heavy damage will be on, and the grid should be fairly full, so lets try and keep the races as incident free as possible.

It is highly recommended that you carry out a full engine rebuild before entering the lobby, as leaving the lobby between races to do an oil change is not permitted. Use only 1 car for the entire event.

The event is going to be about self preservation, with the possibility of cars that are pushed hard in the first 2 races, loosing some power for the finale.

Shin has pointed out in a previous post about overtaking. Please follow the rules regarding this. Track position must be respected, and it is up to the overtaking car to carry out the pass safely, and incident free.

Blue flag. In the event of cars at the back of the field being lapped, please allow the faster cars through, at the earliest, safest chance.

Finally, good luck gents. If I can open the lobby earlier than 8.00pm, I will. Thank you all in advance for taking part in this event.

Merry Xmas everyone.

Looking forward to tonight, not so much the heavy damage aspect though. At Daytona speedway because its such high speed if you just tap the back of a car they get engine damage. I have had many endurance style races ruined because somebody can't appreciate what a brake is and runs into the back of me - hoping with the quality of the grid it will be different tonight.

Also one thing that hasn't been mentioned at Daytona are we having the standard Nascar style rule where you aren't allowed to cross the yellow line to overtake?

That is correct. No crossing the yellow line to overtake. Also, no bump drafting will be permitted.

I hope Ade doesn't mind me commenting (if so just say butt out) as I see it from the outside.

So far you've only done 15 laps that I've watched, on occasions there has been almost a hole lap between first and last, so what is going to happen over 48 laps 1800/37=48 rule of thumb. I've asked Ade if he would like me to stay in the pit for just this race.

If during the race Ade thinks the grid is getting strung out to much by way of accidents and, visits to the pit for damage repair, he has the options to call for the Pace car to close up the pack, but also to give stricken members time to repair and re-join the back of the pack. This is up to Ade.

We all know and have seen it many times, if someone gets damage (like they did last night) they sit at the side of the track, they leave the track or leave the room. This option could be a way of keeping that at bay, after all one mass pile up and you've got 10 sitting at the side of the track and one guy racing all on his own for 30 minutes.

I take your point Sig, but I think Ade has got it covered.

I work on the principal if I see a guy drop off the cliff, I drop back and pick him up and race with him, as I did WFN with GTP_Oldnail

I think that this is a good idea, but im unsure how to manage it myself, as I will be racing. So I think the only way to do it will be a collective call from all on the track, or 1 mandatory pace car intermission to regroup the field. Maybe at 15 minutes, for 2 laps, then go again once the pack has been tightened.

Thatwpuld actually be a god send. I did not enjoy fighting the lotus around the oval for 15 laps, a break in the middle would be welcome!

I guess it does take something away from those who have kept their nose clean and pulled a gap, however it isn't as easy as you would think to pass here if everyone is being cautious as they should.

If it were an enforced safety car, I say enforce the pit stop too. Everyone gets a new set of rubber and repairs done before we bunch up and head off on the second leg. Whatever happens you're on your own to the finish.

This would give people enough time to catch up and un lap themselves to rejoin the back of the pack too. Just my thoughts. :)

Thats it. This would be a welcome break. Pace car out at 15 minutes, gather up the pack and into the pits for a freshen up. Back out in order after the pit stop behind the pace car for another controlled start, then go until the end.

Wow !!! Ade refusing the french people ! wow discrimination !! :D

No, its just that a lot of us have invested a large amount of time in preparing for this event. It would not be fair to take on new racers, without them practicing with us, especially with heavy damage on. I know that the practice lobbies were open, but that was to give us some bigger grids to run the sessions, as well as hopefully finding a few clean fast racers.

Unfortunatelly i am not going to make it guys... :grumpy:

Have a great evening and races!!

Next time hope to be there!

Spy.

OK Spy, thanks for letting us know. I hope you enjoyed the runs you did have with us.

Great night of racing guys. Thanks to everyone for coming to this Xmas special. The first 2 races were super classics. Great racing all round from everyone. Unfortunately the finale at the oval proved a bit of a farce, with a restart after the first run. Then we called on the pace car to gather the pack together, but the restart was wrecked, and we all had to make an early pit stop. It didnt seem to improve after that, so we will put that final race down to a lack of experience.

The results will be posted tomorrow, and the oval race results will only be included in the result of a tie break from race 1 and 2.

Thanks again for coming tonight guys. Merry Xmas to you all.:cheers::cheers:

Great event Ade Enjoyed watch all three races, both road races were good viewing, watching the strategy for pit stops and how members managed their tyre wear was very interesting. Bo did very well towards the end having only 1/1 left on his rear tyres.

The battle between Mr_D and Shin in the later stages I could not take my eyes off Shin with 4/4 and not wanting to loose 2nd place was on a knife edge, Mr_G with 6/6 just had to bide his time and the move was inevitable on the last couple of corners at Indy (IMS).

Daytona was a race of stratagem being more technical layout, I popped off for refreshments at the wrong time got accosted by the family and missed the end.

First Pace Car lap went without a hitch.

Now the Oval great to watch but made my eyes bleed trying to view the cars passing me, switching from the right window to the left window of the Pace car parked side onto the track in the pits.

First Lap turn two this happened, why is beyond me.

IMAG0125_zps491ca802.jpg

IMAG0127_zps7cf7756e.jpg

The result was Full Damage to both cars and this was turn 2 of the first lap.

Then came the first call for the Pace Car lap 8 I think it was, then again 18 minutes in.

Now once you called for the Pace Car to come out, I heard one member (don't know who it was) say Full Course Yellow. Well we all know what that means.

Slow down, do not over take and be prepared to stop if necessary.

I was watching in rear view and the lead cars came behind the Pace Car a little quick, but did manage to slow right down, but this was nearing the point at witch you said lead them into the pit. All went well to here no FUBAR's.

But why two came round in excess of 130mph one over 170mph after the Pace Car had been on track for almost a lap, is way beyond me. They just piled into the back of the pack, so now you've got multiple cars with damage, I think all of these pitted and did not receive damage repair. Bo was the only one to come out with repaired damage.

All in all save a long story, most of the problems with Safety Car being on track was all due to guys not obeying the rules. Slow Down, Do not over take, Stop if Necessary.

I thought some of the comments in the room were a bit harsh after the race, I thought you put on a great event and was brave enough to try and introduce something new that resembles real life Indy car type of racing, I take my hat off to you Sir.

I would hope some apologies would be posted after the comments, very un-called for.

I would be glad and willing to Pace car again for you Ade, but hope next time, guys follow the rules of what a Safety Car on track means.

Thank you Ade for allowing me to join, just say the word and I'll do the same all over again.

Phillip.

I enjoyed the first two races, but I personally loved the Speedway race. I did some amazing laps going two wide through the turns. I would do that again any day!

The standard of talent and pace in the room was the highest I've expecienced since a looong time, I feel privilleged to have been part of this event.

First of all, great racing yesterday! Well done to all drivers, you could tell that everyone put in a decent amount of practice and was driving with respect and clean racing in mind. Shin did an awesome lap and got pole at Daytona. The start was very clean, at least what I could see. After a lap or two, Shin and I had created a little gap and I started to launch a few attacks. I did not want to go 2 wide into the bus stop the first few tries, because there are better overtaking opportunities... but Shin had them covered! The only place I could come close was turn 1 around the outside, or the tightening hairpin in sector 2. Shin placed his car very well. One lap I had a pretty good run out of the infield, Shin defended the inside and I had to take the outside. Coming up to the bus stop I let off a bit just before the braking zone. Unfortunately Shin touched the grass and lost control for a moment. I decided to pit a little earlier than halfway, hoping the tires would keep it to the end. Luckily they did. One hairy moment in the bus stop when I was off the racing line going in had my heart thumping for a while!

On to Indy. The reverse grid was tense! I wanted to make sure I did not have contact with anyone. It was hectic, with some minor contact here and there but everyone got through it. I did not even notice I got left rear damage, that's how busy it was. Shin (why did the game put him behind me on the grid, he should have started in front of me) got a good start and got me into the second turn. I could draft pass Sig on the front straight. Then Shin got past ade and Soka, which were battling on the main straight when I caught up. When ade got Soka's draft I was alongside ade. Ade was looking good to draft pass Soka and I made space for him to do so, but I think ade decided to play it safe and not risk contact 👍 It's very difficult to guage where everyone is in this car, especially in a three car battle. I could pass Soka on the infield and was in the hunt to try and catch Shin again. Shin caught up with the leader Bo, who had a little wobble coming onto the infield straight and Shin had to lift a fraction. That meant I could slot in between going into the lefthander. But I overcooked it, 2 wheels off the track and Shin could repass round the outside of the first hairpin! 👍 The next lap Shin was applying pressure to Bo and had a look on the inside of turn 3. Bo missed his turn in by a fraction and ran a little wide, Shin and I both got past. A lap later, Shin defended the lead really well by braking outstandingly late into turn 1, while getting the car turned in nicely. The next lap he clipped the grass on the exit of the final corner and unfortunately got damage. From then on I got into the groove and got cracking. The 97T is really nice to drive around Indy.

The oval race. To be honest I was skeptical about racing here. I don't want to take anything away from ade and the effort that went into organizing this event. I realized most would minimize downforce settings, but when I tested with 500 at the front, the thing was uncontrollable. You were swerving that much during cornering that you could not prevent contact with anyone going 2 wide into the corners, even though the track is wide enough for 3 cars wide. Couple that with lag issues we know GT6 has... So I tried 600 at the front, that was a little better. Already in the 4th lap, I was put in the wall similar to the pics Phil posted, just not as hard while still resulting in full damage on both front wheels. The safety car period. I missed the full course yellow call, but I knew the safety car was on track somewhere. Being at the back of the pack in a dark environment it is really tough to judge speed differences. The guys in front of me were still going full song until the last moment and I was too close to brake in time. I'm sorry for the resulting damage. I do think we can all learn from what happened here. We should take more care to drive at a safe distance. Keeping enough distance between each car so you can stop, I know I was far too close. Also, in practice the safety car was going 130-150 mph, that's a good speed to catch the leaders at and then slowly decelerate if you want the pack to go slower. Catching the leader at 60 mph is not a good thing. Everyone, especially the front runners, should reduce their speed gradually to match the pace car because the back of the grid will have to brake harder because of the accordion effect.

I don't want to end on a negative and take away a lot from the positives of this event. I don't know if your remarks are directed at me Phil, I assume they are. Everything I said yesterday I said in the heat of the moment, but I don't think I was too harsh. I said that I was thankful for all the work that had gone into the races. I was just critical of the whole execution of the oval race, and by that I mean the execution of the collective, including me.

:gtpflag:  Merry Christmas everyone! :gtpflag:

A Live video, sorry about the blacks screens changing from one car to another.

Yeah one would have to agree there Bart, it was bold and new, and I'm sure if we work as a group we could make it so much better.

Well done from me Ade I'm very sorry if I didn't manage to keep the SC aspect as smooth as one would have liked.

Post race report, results and final thoughts.

Well, its 24 hours since the event. Christmas is a funny time of year to put on events in an established club, as many folk have gone away for the holidays, or cant attend for one reason or another. So I was more than pleased with the turn out, especially as we had some guests racing with us. Pasm, Shin and Sig. I hope you enjoyed the event.

Also a super massive thanks to Phil, for giving up his time to drive the pace car for us. Awesome job mate.

Race 1.

Starting behind the pace car was great. Im so glad we practiced this, as it payed well come the race start. Everyone got away from the bus stop clean. I got involved in the early off track excursion by Cobani, and had to pit to sort out front wheel damage. Coming out the pit, Bo went too wide into T2, giving me the chance to get ahead without a battle. The next stint was spent getting clean laps, as I got into a rhythm. I pitted again later in the race for new rubber, but got caught out at turn one, and ended up with engine damage. My pace was very slow, and going into the bus stop, I could see cars coming up from behind, so I warned whoever it was that I was slow through the bus stop. After pitting again to repair the engine, Bo passed me as I made my exit, and as I watched him go past, I caught my front right on the wall of the pit lane, giving me damage. No time to pit again, with only a few minutes of the race left, so it was catch up time. Bo was on very second hand tyres, and I managed the pass. Great racing all round.

Race 2.

Again, another great start from everyone. I was at the front end, and after the first few laps was in the company of some super fast aliens. I played it safe, and gave plenty of room. Again, another race of trying to get good clean laps, but I did have more than 1 excursion off track, as I pushed harder. Hitting the tyres going into T1 with Weesctman bearing down on me, is just 1 example. But it was another great race from everyone.

Race 3.

This one was always going to be a bit of a white elephant. However, watching the replay back tonight, it didnt look as bad as it seemed last night. There was lots of amazing, close, super fast driving from everyone. After the restart, Bo and myself got away, and the next 7 laps were spent bumper to bumper. We seemed to pull quite a gap, so I called for the pace car, and Bo announced it was full course yellow. I didnt need to pit, I just thought it would be better to re group the pack. However, as the rear of the field joined, there was a lot of contact and a mass pit stop was called. After rejoining there was a mad period of racing with a pack of about 7 cars, all very close. It was nerve racking, and my spell with the pack came to an end, after contact with Bo, sent me into the barrier, and spinning off in front of Warren. The pace car then came out on 18 minutes, and gathered everyone up for another pit stop, and that seems to be where some confusion came in. Not too sure what happened, but during the restart, I sustained engine damage, and decided to retire from the race.

So on the whole, it was a pretty successful evening. The oval race did throw up some problems, but in hind sight, we didnt practice this as much as the others, and the pace car intervention was only decided at the 11th hour. If we do this again, more time will be invested in perfecting it, and rules will be made clearer.

Onto the results. I did mention last night that I would only take the results from race 1 and 2 into consideration, and only use the Oval results in the event of any tie breakers. There have been tie breakers, so the results from all 3 races will stand. Fastest lap times are also on the results.

Congratulations to GTP_PASM, for the overall win, SHIN, for second place, and Warren and SIG for sharing the 3rd step on the podium.

Massive thanks to everyone, for all the hours of practice, and input you have provided to make this event possible.

Final thoughts.

Sunday Cup will be 3 years old in the new year. If it was about the winning for me, it wouldnt still be going. Over the past few years doing this, I have met some smashing people, a few of you in real life. To see busy grids of highly respected Sim racers for my events is humbling, and I thank you all very much. I wish all of you, and your family's, the very best for Christmas and new year.

Regards, and respect to you all.

Adrian.

Yep, a great nights racing last night Ade, appreciate the effort and also the clean respectful racing start to finish. Thank you everyone!

Great overall win Bart, was great to spar with you I enjoyed myself very much. Let myself down with my famous inconsistency but I think you pretty much had it in the bag. I will pinch that fastest lap off you for race one if you don't mind though, pretty sure I did a 22 in the race ;)

Not sure the results perfectly reflect how proceedings went last night, race 3 shook the bag pretty hard! I'll take the 2nd place overall as they don't come around that often :D However I'm quite sure I don't deserve it.

Echoing Ades sentiments I'd like to wish each of you a very merry Christmas. Here's to the best of luck for you all in the new year also. Hope to be racing you very soon!

Hopefully in Sunday cup, wink wink ;)

Shin_Roh / GTP_Pasm / Theewar

Congratulations

Loved watching every minute of the action, you guys I still hold as some of the best I've ever meet online.

:gtpflag:

Edit: Well it's Christmas Eve I'd like to say thanks for all the shared moment in the past year, I look forward to even more time spent in your company in 2015.

 Merry Christmas Everyone.
