OK guys, Its nearly 2015. Sunday Cup 5 starts in 5 weeks this Sunday. I hope you have all had a great festive break. I will be glad to see the back of 2014 if Im honest. Bring on the new year, and a brand new season.

Car specs for the new season will become available for the first 2 races this weekend. A lot of time has been taken to ensure that Sunday Cup 5 will follow true to life settings for our 2011 Lotus Elise. As we progress through the 8 races, the car will be upraded every 2 races, with either power suspension or weight/aero upgrades. In true to life Lotus tradition, we will add lightness, as we go, to improve speed. However the final uprade for the last 2 races will require us to add a small amount of weight, as the aero package we will be using adds some kgs to the car. The outcome of this aero package, in real world figures, is that the car laps the Hethel test track, 4 seconds quicker than the standard Elise S.

Gents, please see here. ELISE S CUP R. It will give you an idea of what we will convert the entry level car to over the 8 races.

Practicing will start in January, date to be confirmed.

Happy new year to you all.

Hi Ade!

If I may suggest, please do not create specs for the final iteration that include too much power and racing compound tryes on a road legal car. Its been a major turn-off for me in the last 2 series and it would be a shame (my opinion!) if it where to happen again.

Other than that, a happy new year and hopefully to a successful Sunday Cup S5.

OK guys, Happy new year to you all. One final teaser for you all. Also, you dont have to worry about racing tyres, as they will not be used in Sunday Cup 5. Sports soft will be the fastest tyre we race on. A few of you were lucky enough tonight to get a teaser of the first car/track, in a special impromptu practice. More info will be released tomorrow evening for everyone regarding racing specs. Previous seasons of Sunday Cup, have brought to you, real as I can make it spec and racing experiences. I'm sure that Sunday Cup 5 will not disappoint!

More news tomorrow gents.

Oooh :D Great picture Ade, getting me excited for the season!

If anyone is around for some more SC5 practice tonight that'd be cool. I'll be online looking for races :)

I think I am safe in saying it will be (Jag) practice going on from tonight. The SC5 practice sessions last night where a Good Buzz and a bit of a look at whats to come in Feb. :dopey: .. The Suzuka Skull Crusher race is this day next week.

In 5 weeks time, the green light for Sunday Cup 5 will be Go!

So its time to give you all some more details of whats coming up. In previous series, I have tried to bring true to life settings, with Sunday Cup 4 providing some real life racing history for each of the 4 cars we used.

In Sunday Cup 5, we will only be in one car. The 2011 Lotus Elise. As the series progresses, every 2 races, we will carry out modifications to the car, to match the real life specification of its factory variant.

Starting point: Lotus Elise 2011.

For the first 2 races, the car will not be tuned at all. Oil change, rigidity improvement, 6 speed close ratio gearbox (not adjustable) any choice of wheel and the installation of a hard top (external parts; other) are all that will be permitted. This car comes with an all alloy, 1.6 litre DOHC 4 cylinder, dual VVT-i and Valvematic, 16-valve engine. The car must be restricted to 134 BHP using the power limiter, after the oil change is carried out. The tyres we will use, will be comfort soft and comfort medium. This is the entry level Elise.

RACE 1 AND 2.PNG

Stage 2: Lotus Elise club racer.

The first of our modifications will see us installing a sports exhaust, but remaining at 134 BHP, but we will loose some weight. With the removal of air bags, the weight will drop to 857 KG. The car will be upgraded with fully customizable suspension, and transmission. We will also see a tyre upgrade, with the use of Sports hard, and comfort softs. This is The Club Racer. (Full upgrade package will become available after race 2)

RACE 3 AND 4.PNG

Stage 3: Lotus Elise S Club racer.

Our only power upgrade of the season comes when we upgrade our engine to the All alloy, 1.8 litre DOHC 4 cylinder, dual VVT-i, 16-valve with Magnuson R900 supercharger. This will be carried out, using engine tuning, and the addition of a mid range turbo, as super chargers are not available. This engine does weigh in at an extra 43 KG, but the increase in power to 217 bhp, will more than make up for this. AP Racing brakes will be installed to give more stopping power. Again, this package comes with the addition of upgraded tyres. Sports medium, and sports hard will be the chosen rubber. This is The S Club Racer. (Full upgrade package will become available after race 4)

Stage 4: Lotus Elise S Cup R.

Our final upgrades will see us using the most extreme Elise available from the Hethel factory. Power will remain at 217 BHP, but the addition of motorsport-specific engine control module (sports ECU), Full Jann speed racing Exhaust, the engine comes with much more punch. Additionally, the weight will be reduced, However the loss will be supplemented with the addition of a full Aero kit comprising of front splitter, side barge boards, extended rear diffuser and rear wing. This aero kit provides 175 kg of downforce, which improves the lap time by 4 seconds on a 5 km race course. Finally, we will equip our cars with some sport soft, and sport medium tyres. This is the S Cup R. (Full upgrade package will become available after race 6)

So, there we are gents. We have 5 weeks. The first practice sessions will begin on Friday 18th January. After the races we ran last night, I am expecting the first few races to be very close. Tsukuba is our first port of call, and the car feels great. Next Sunday is Warrens Jag Race at Suzuka, so we will get under way the weekend after.

In the mean time, I need a head count. Please come forward with you car/wheel colour scheme, racing number, and podium picture. I will be using the same podium pictures as before, so only those who havnt provided one, or those that wish to have a new one need to do the podium pic. Again, driver only.

Sample podium pic below.

Race you all very soon.

Lol didn't even think of that, the numbers for Lewis Hamilton securing a second world championship, and my race colours are senna's.

And I can't even stand in a religious building without this happening.......

#48 Signing in for a return to the Sunday cup, specs look lovely. Colors tbd. Was planing on white+green, but white seems a bit abundant. Matte Dark Silver and a Fluorescent light blue might be my other go-to.

That brings me to another little idea after seeing Roh's picture, what about 2 men teams in a team point ranking?

Thanks guys. Out of interest, the car and spec choices for this season are inspired by what is coming off the production line right now. I mentioned in a previous post, that this season would bring us bang up to date, as well as returning to our roots in Sunday Cup 5. I also hope to be able to provide you with real life suspension settings, once we reach the stage where the adjustable kit is fitted.

Great to have you back Third. The team idea is something I have thought about previously, and we did trial it in the Sunday Cup vs Type R cup Lemans event we ran. The only set back I see, is that team mates would have to guarantee that they can make every race to make a team points tally work out fairly. Also, it would mean more work for me after the races, to compile a team results chart as well as all the other tables. (Believe me, there is a lot of work already)

That being said, there is nothing stopping you guys from pairing up, and running your own, in series team championship based on individual racers points from each race. If you did decide to do this, please bear in mind, that it must not interfere with the individual championship in any way, and must be run solely by those in teams. Also take into account, there will only be 15 maximum on the grid, as I will not be racing in the events.

I like the team idea but as you've said Ade it shouldn't detract from the drivers championship in any way. Would be cool to have team colours running through the grid though, but maybe the grid just isn't big enough in the first place. (Limitations set by the game not SC5)

As for your comments about the cars Ade I personally think it's a masterstroke. I'm sure Lotus themselves will also be happy to see spec cars being ran to mirror their current line up. If you went so far as to enforce suspension settings that could only make the series more competitive too. Level playing field driver challenge 👍 In all honesty I'll enjoy driving the cars in any guise because of the guys that will be on track, but I am intrigued to see how the car evolution will play out, I think that's very cool!

And speaking of guys on track Ade, you should be there for sure. Take no points or just give yourself a theoretical championship standing if you must, but again, be there you should! :)

As much as I would like to, once again, be racing a series alongside Ade. I understand why he isn't. I don't for one second think he doesn't want to. Ade is trying to expand the Sunday Cup series into something more.
More dynamic and watchable for the person sat behind their computer.
Live penalties, multiple camera angles, battles on track... I'm sure there's more, but it escapes me right now.

I support Ade's decision and his vision for Sunday Cup. Even if I have to forgo racing with him in any calendar event.

OK, guys. Ive thought about this over the last couple of days, and now that the details of S5 are public, Im just as excited about it as you are. I want to race, so i'm going to.

I will then broadcast from the replay, after each race results have been announced. This way, I can find all the best action from the races from the replay, and focus on them during the broadcast.
