Racing AI cars is one thing, but racing you guys is fun and a real eye-opener! I've never raced online before, and among the cars my eyes were on stalks desperately trying not to spoil anyone else's lap and avoid contact - and then I went off. Repeatedly! At least being way behind I could stop worrying about hitting any of you... I managed a couple of 1.20 laps but mostly I was 3 seconds a lap off your pace. But as long as I'm not annoying anyone I'll keep trying if that's ok? I couldn't have picked a better "first club".

Great to have you aboard. This indeed a a great bunch of drivers. The more practices you attend, the more at ease you will feel and then you can give Warren and Ade a run for his money with their 1:18.9xx.

Well you're doing better than I did when I first started, and you got better times than me last night!!!
Where am I going wrong?

I think anybody but me is in a place to answer that! But still... Mostly (on the laps I stayed on track) I was doing 1.21s, but it's funny how I just seem to *know* when I'm on a good lap, without even looking at the splits - not trying to go too fast into t2 (or is it the second part of t1?) and getting a good drive out of the corner - and especially the hairpin coming out of the tunnel - if I get just the right drive off that corner so I don't have to come off full throttle again until the final corner. That's when I get into the 1.20s. I'm hoping that when I switch from auto to manual, and get competent with it, maybe I'll find some time that way. Also, I notice that everyone else is going into the tunnel without braking - and if I just back off the gas a bit instead of dabbing the brakes, invariably I run wide and get two wheels onto the kerb inside the tunnel, if I don't spin out that is, so I'd like to know how that's done as I see the car in my rear view mirror get closer going in the tunnel. I changed my brake balance from 5/5 to 2/3 as per @megg230 s recommendation, but in all honesty I couldn't see any improvement in the handling or my times... The only thing I did discover was that I was riding the brake pedal a little mid corner, and by taking my foot completely off the pedal the car started to turn in better so I could get on the power earlier. Also I haven't been turning the wheel enough in sharper corners. Locking it round a bit more didn't upset the handling and helped me to hit the apex better.

OK guys, time for the first round of times from GVE(R). There were some awesome times set last night, with several racers breaking into the 18s. It was great to watch the replays back. I thought I had secured the second fastest time in the last race, but it wasnt until I checked the times this afternoon, that I realized that SHIN had pipped me by 3/100ths of a second. With a quarter of a second separating the top 6, this looks like it will provide some super close racing. THEEWAR takes the purple after the first session. Practice will resume tonight from 8.00pm.

I reckon I have the cheapest gaming setup in history - there's a drawer in the unit under the tv

https://app.box.com/s/sv2pwpofyi4vd64wt2svhksxc2i58y6p

So I bought a wooden decking tile from B&Q for £2.50, trimmed it to fit and attached my wheel to it

https://app.box.com/s/bzfihcwgcbohvgzd4q6zxb17nj5ku634

And when wedged into the partly opened drawer it gives a very stable platform which can be removed easily and hidden out of the way when not racing

https://app.box.com/s/cdrkqitg54uzwb3z6uxrgbqbzutgajc8

Seeing as I can't afford a proper wheel stand!

Out of the "Sunday Cup Aliens" bracket I present to you my new rig modified specially for my dad :D View attachment 292525 View attachment 292526 View attachment 292527 View attachment 292528
You'll be sure to go faster with all those new rig mods @nomad81 :lol::lol:

A DFP is also what I started out with with this group, online racing, and making the Manual gearbox transition, some two years ago. I haven't looked back. 👍

Another fantastic practice tonight. The racing is getting a lot closer, now we have a few laps under the belt. A welcome return to Scholesy, and SuperGrover had his first stints with a manual gearbox. 18s were a bit elusive tonight. I managed to crack into them, but was 2/1000ths off last nights. However Will did record an obscene purple time, which will be posted tomorrow after I have gone through the replays.

@nomad81 Don't be discouraged mate, this is a super easy combo and it's very easy to over complicate it. As you can see there are 6 people already on the threshold of a perfect lap and others close behind. The reason we're all so bunched is because there is honestly very little to do here. Of course you need to choose your lines right, but most important of all is to understand the car. Spend some time racing by yourself and concentrate on one corner at a time. I don't really understand nor use trail braking in my driving so it was important I found a way to drive around the Elise' happy tail. When you master it there are 3 brake points on the circuit. The rest of it is FLAT OUT. Roll through turn one, brake for turn 2, foot to the floor, brake at turn 5, foot hard down again, brake for turn 10(?), flat to turn one. Simple. But like I said, taming the car is far harder. Find your way :)

@SuperGrover Same to you as I said to Damon, just be patient and concentrate on consistency. You're doing a great job 👍 Small tip for your tunnel entry.. Stick tight to the curb on the right as you go up the hill, you're going to turn in as it ends. However if you wait until you see the apex on the left into the tunnel, you've waited too late. Position your car on the right and aim to clip one metre out from the crash barrier on the left going up the hill. Keep doing this until you get your line right and it becomes second nature. I promise you that corner is flat out, if you get it slightly wrong a quick lift should be all that's needed :)

It might be worth mentioning I always drive in cockpit view. Your perspective may be very slightly different but the method is the same 👍

OK, last nights practice times are below. I had 11 replays to go through, and as expected, the times are closing up already. Come race day, I think there will be less than a second between the fastest and slowest times. As SHIN mentioned above, the secret is taming the car. This track was chosen, as it is a great circuit to demonstrate the cars capabilities. Its easy to get 100% out of the Elise here, but its also just as easy to go beyond the limit. When you do get it right, its very rewarding, and GVE(R) is a great circuit to prepare us for the coming season.

Practice will continue tonight, from 7.30pm. I will only be on until 9.30pm, due to stupid early get up time.:grumpy::crazy:

Also, next week I will be sorting out all the graphics for the new season, so I wont be on GT until the end of the week.

Thanks to great advice from @GTP_ADE on how to drive turns 1 and 2, and @Captain Roh on the line into the tunnel, I actually managed a PB of 1.19.173 in offline free run practice this afternoon :-) - over about 15 laps I got in the low 19s half a dozen times (and came off more times than that)... Whether I can repeat this online when the pressure is on I'm not sure! I did screenshot the evidence though

Just a FYI Grover, offline physics more grippy (ignore if you're aware of this), do your practice in online lobby. I still just open a room, don't know if the club side lets you do it. Lads......?

Nice time I got last night! Lol will be home about 9ish, replacement buses again this weekend, and before anyone says, yes I'll keep my mouth shut this weekend and not be threatened by staff lol catch you all soon

Well, this weekends final practice was an absolute blinder. It was great to have a very busy grid. We did seem to have some of the visibility issues between some drivers, so please make sure that all of the pre lobby entry rules are followed.

Getting into the 18s was the order of the day for some racers tonight, and some of you did, and some of you didnt. Records were set, but times wont be posted until tomorrow evening, when I have been through the replays.

Next Sunday is race day, and the lap count will be 44, with 11 required on the comfort medium tyre. Official practice will resume next Friday.

Last nights practice times are below. What a cracking session it was, with lots of PBs being smashed, and the top 11 now less than a second in it. We did have some issues with visibility again. Goodwolf was in the lobby, and I could hear him, but he wasnt present on track for me. However he did send me his fastest lap.

So far, we have had 15 racers practice for this. After all the practice @SuperGrover has put in, I have offered him a place on the grid for this pre season race. He will then return to the reserve grid for the start of the season, and will be offered the first available grid spot, for any absentees during the season.

So, assuming all racers who have turned in practice times, make the race, that leaves 1 free spot. GC255 may have to forego the race. If that is the case, there will be 2 free spots.

Official practice will resume on Friday, and we will run some laps on the CM tyre, and also some races with a pit stop.

The lap count has been added to the poster.
