A little something for you all taken at the performance motor show at the NEC yesterday

This is a Lotus and you can see where from, inside is my Son and Grand son what are they so fixed on watching, on the bonnet behind the blue bag is a TV screen, inside a playstation set up so you can have a go at GT6 London. Son did manage second which is not bad for someone that doesn't play GT. I think my Grand son was giving him pointers as he quite often sits on my lap with me at home on GT.

Sadly I had to give it a miss, as I wouldn't be able to get in or out of the car.

A real live one for you Ade.

Great pics Phil. The Europa driving simulator is the same one that GC Gary and myself had a go on at the Lotus summer party, when Gary came to visit in 2013. I think we were both a couple of seconds faster than the best time the rozzers had set.

1.

Race 1 and 2 updates.

I have been doing some testing regarding the first 2 races. During the practice session held at Tsukuba a few weeks ago, I felt that the Elise didnt really drive as I know it should. Im not sure if this is PDs interpretation of how they think it should feel, but if it is, its wrong. I have done some further research, and found that the gearbox ratios on the stock gearbox are spot on, to what PD have put them at in the game. However, the car doesnt rev as it should. The Elise is very free revving, and climbs through the gear box quickly. The stock Elise in the game is very slow through the gears. The top speed on the stock gearbox, is also about 30mph faster than it should be.

So, tonight I have run laps at both Tsukuba, and Brands Hatch Indy, using the close ratio 6 speed gearbox (Not adjustable). This feels much more like it should do, with the car feeling nice and revy, and the top speed was fairly on the button aswell.

Therefore, the specs for race 1 and 2 will be.

RACE 1 AND 2.PNG

Elise 2011.

Oil change.

Rigidity improvement.

Hard top (external parts; other)

6 speed close ratio gearbox.

This gearbox will then stay with the car until races 5 and 6, when a fully customizable transmission will become available.

2.

Pre season testing.

Pre season testing will begin on Friday and carry on over the weekend. Grand Valley East/Reverse will be the venue. This will be followed by a pre season race at GVE/R on Sunday 25th January. Laps to be determined.

Following on from that, Tsukuba ( Race 1) practice will begin on Friday 30th January, and carry on over the weekend. Race 1 of The Sunday Cup begins the week after.

Thank you gents.

Ade.

I wonder if I could be considered as a reserve driver for this season? I'm pretty new to online racing, but I race clean and respectfully, have a reliable connection, and the availability to fill in at short notice if the opportunity arises.

I have the Elise 11 prepared in accordance with the regulations in this thread (painted Saharasilber if this is allowed, it not being a factory colour) and currently marked with my usual number, 33 if that's not been claimed yet. My only query is that despite no tuning my car shows 140bhp instead of 134 - but this may be due to the oil change "boost"?

I am asedgley on PSN I believe (did I mention I was new to online competition?!).

I'd love the chance to practice with you and be able to race in case of others' absence!

Hello, and welcome. I will put you on the reserve drivers list. Practice session for the pre season race will begin on Friday. To get to the required 134 bhp, just adjust the power limiter down.

Sunday Cup has drivers of all abilities, and we always welcome new racers to join us in practice sessions. We are a friendly bunch, and you will find the banter in the lobby is just as good as the racing.

The practice sessions consist of short races at the next track on the calendar. Add me on PSN, ADE3210.

Terrific - thanks Ade! I've been doing some practice laps offline at GVS (R) - albeit with 140bhp - and I'm lapping consistently in the 1.23s, hopefully that'll give you a rough idea of my ability or lack of it! But practice, practice, practice... I'll send you an add request shortly.

OK racers. Full specs for the upcoming pre season warm up race are in the poster below. I still need a few guys to confirm their racing colours, (Car and wheels please) and those of you who havnt submitted a podium picture, please do so ASAP. (these podium pictures are also used in the driver standings as well). Most of you have podium pictures from previous seasons, but if you wish to update them feel free.

Practice sessions for this pre season race will begin this Friday from 8.30pm GMT.

Important info regarding connection issues. We all know that PD servers can be a pain in the neck. But by following these instructions, it should make for a trouble free event. There is nothing more frustrating for everyone, than racers who are not visible to one another. So please take a few minutes to do the following before entering the lobby.

A wired ethernet connection to the PS3 is much more stable than wireless.
Make sure that time and date on PS3 are set by internet.
Reset PS3 before entering the lobby.
Clear PS3 cache before entering the lobby.

Most importantly.
Please ensure that UPnP is switched on, on your internet router.
Then, check network settings on PS3 to make sure that UPnP is available.

Warrens race at Suzuka on Sunday really proved that these steps are worth taking. There were no visibility issues between drivers at all, so please take the time to do this.

Cheers.

Ade.

Welcome @SuperGrover ! Hopefully see you on track bud, you should try your best to make the practice sessions because generally that's where you will find space to race, come event day there may be no positions for you but at least you'll have got to race some very fair and friendly guys in the weeks running up to it :)

What controller do you use in GT6 by the way? I normally use a wheel but I ran a few laps with my control pad this morning just incase to give you some reference. I ran 1.18's at GVE-R with the car correct to spec, so there's something to aim for 👍 As Ade has said we are a bunch of guys who enjoy close clean competition but at very different skill levels, don't worry if you can't come close or you go faster than that, there will always be someone to battle with in Sunday Cup :)

Well @Captain Roh thanks for the welcome and the target to aim for! Sad to say but I was using my Logitech DF wheel as well as an overpowered Elise when I did those practice laps :-( so clearly I have plenty of room to improve... Hopefully I'll get to practice online with you on Friday and learn from your lines, if I can stay close enough to see them!
Captain Roh is customarily one of the quicker amongst our numbers, so I admire and share your ambition. I'll also second his comments that there is always someone to race against at a Sunday Cup event. (probably me in this instance)

And whilst I remember, here's my podium picture.

I've now got into the 1.20s on GVE(R) in the correct horsepower Elise... even so, I've no idea how to shave off more than a tenth or two here and there, far less knock another couple of seconds off to match your DS3 time, @Captain Roh! But I'll keep trying! @CTR Driver thanks for trying to cheer me up ;-)

A good bit of advice is to save the replays from the practice sessions, and view them afterwards to pick up different racers lines, gear chages, braking points and corner/ turn entrys. You will find plenty of time on the track by doing this. Just as a note, my fastest time was 1:20.059 during the short time I spent testing the other evening.

I must confess that all the driving I've done in GT6 has been with Automatic Transmission - despite having a wheel with paddles and an up/down gearshift knob. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and experiment with MT in case there are any gains to be made that way too. And thanks for the valuable advice about saving and reviewing replays as a learning tool.

Definitely bite the bullet, you will not regret it. Manual transmission is the way to faster laps. You wont look back.

Hey Ade could I sign up as a reserve please :).

Updated driver image if its any good.

I might have a try of the car tonight (about 15 min ish) in the Sunday Club if you dont mind.

You certainly can be added to the list mate. I may try and get on for a few laps myself at about 8.30.

That was good fun, even if I have lots of improvement to do before I get close to you guys! Tomorrow I'll stay off the pop which would be a good start. I just hope I didn't make a bad first impression. The only way is up. Or down, in the case of my times. Replays saved!

I got a room open in the Sunday Cup Club and I'll aim for 1:18's:scared:

Haha, and you got a 1:18.xx in free run. Good little preview session in the new car. Was nice to get on track with @SuperGrover for a few laps. Canary found the car better once he got rid of the CM on the rear, and Rosen showed some good pace. My best lap was a 1:19.5xx, in the last 5 lap race. Official practice starts tomorrow, from 8.00pm.

I could not believe it! I was at the point of wanting to throw the damn steering wheel at the TV, simply couldn't keep the arse-end of the car in a straight line through the corners. Strangely changing the rear tyres to CS so that they matched the front resolved that!

Instantly took 15 seconds off my best lap (which to be fair wasn't difficult as I had spun on every previous lap). I stayed on a little longer after everyone left and had about 12 consecutive laps where I improved each time, knocking a further 6 seconds off and starting to have some consistency.

I'm liking this little car just a bit more now! Still got plenty of room for improvement but practice makes perfect (sort of!)

Unsurprisingly, my reactions were a bit better today and although last night I couldn't get under 1.23, I'm back into 1.21s and 1.20s. So as long as I don't let nerves get the better of me and push too hard in the first couple of turns I ought to stay on track tonight and give you a decent battle at the back @Canary Woolf!

Great first practice at GVE(R) in the Elise. Some really super close battles over the course of the evening. The car feels fantastic with the close ratio 6 speed, but you do have to get the right line to find the grip. Times came down as the evening went on, and the racing got closer. I will be at work until 2.00 tomorrow, but I'l try to get tonight s fastest times posted up when I get home. Practice will resume tomorrow from 8.00pm.
