Someone (I think it may have been @scholesy1899) was saying last night that on a clear track, it was possible to hook up a good lap, but in close racing it was very difficult to pick the braking point etc when having to avoid contact and take a different line than the normal one. That rang very true with me. I'm hoping I don't spoil anyone's race tonight, and I'm going to be Supercautious Supergrover. I realise I've no chance of a high finish so I'm going to concentrate on staying on track, avoiding contact, and having fun. Really looking forward to it!

Ps I've found a thicker cushion.

Awesome final practice last night, with 10 on track and no visibility issues. Lets hope that continues tonight. After the final session, its all change at the top end of the table again, with Soka smashing the lap record by 3/10ths of a second. Tonight's race promises to be a corker. Lets just be careful for those opening laps, and we should all get round without any dramas.

Qualifying will take place using the normal format. The lobby will be reset at 8.45pm and the timer set for race start at 15 minutes. Qualifying will be in free run mode, with fastest first taking pole position. The track will be very busy during quali, so racers will have to try and space themselves out to get that flying lap. Remember to start the race on the tyre you use to set the fastest lap please.

The lobby will be open from 7.30 GMT, so we can try to sort out any connection issues before the race. Please try to arrive as early as possible.

@SuperGrover, it's just that I get hyped, every time, I get tense, overdrive, and everything else in between.

This racing gives me a glimpse of how the mental side of racing real cars is so important, alongside raw talent and speed.

I wouldn't usually do it but I read the news article on the front of GTP about the latest North American GTA guy, aswell keeping superfit there is a lot of emphasis on the mental approach.

I get too excited simple as, concentration for me is paramount, when you extract speed and consistency on top of that (what I find) draining concentration:crazy: I'm in awe and respect is due (posse!)

Practicing on/offline on my own I get a bit zen and feel like Prost.

The minute it comes to real human beans (sic), I turn into Alesi. Getting a bit ten to two even!!!!! (Snagglepuss)

Yup, @scholesy1899 I'm 100% with you on that. Over an hour til quali, for a "pre-season race" and my pulse is already off the scale. I keep thinking "have I done enough practice?" and I've covered 1000 miles on GVE(R) in the Elise in the last 10 days! And "am I going to keep it all together for 44 laps?" - "what if I knock someone off the track?" - "is my cushion thick enough?" etc etc. This is supposed to be fun, and I feel like I'm about to go for a job interview! OMG BRING ON THE MADNESS!!

Dont worry. The nerves are natural. I still get them, even hours before a race.

Well, that was awesome. Superb racing from everyone. Huge amounts of focus were required to get through 44 laps. Thanks everyone for joining the race tonight. 15 starters, and 15 finishers. Full grid and results will be posted tomorrow, along with my race report, however right now is the time for the top 3. With less than half a second between 1st and 3rd place. Amazing! Enjoy your champagne guys.

Wow. Fantastic race! Ade, major thanks to you for all the time and effort you put into this, and for letting a total novice like me join the party. I truly consider myself very fortunate and honoured to be part of a group of such awesome gentleman racers as you all.

I can't believe how quickly the race was over actually - and the nerves vanished once I got going and stopped coming off (laps 1 and 2). Until the last few laps when my cs tyres were shot anyway! Now I have to learn how to let the leaders by without letting a car behind me in the race through as well!

Great stuff, now it's off to Tsukuba, and fingers crossed there's a space for me on the grid :-)

For me to qualify last and walk away with 11th is quite an achievement for me. To cap it all off using no ABS as well. My braking points were not as late as most people, but that is understandable. Had I practiced more and not been quite as tired during the race I may have been mixing it up with the mid field. Good race none the less. I look forward to the next one.

On a side note, some of you may be aware of the Endurance series franchises that Ade and I are running alongside Sunday Cup, Type R Cup and 500pp club, under the banner S.C.A.R (Sunday Cup Affiliated Racers). The Honda R franchise has been qualifying this weekend just gone, in the GT500 class for The Rolex Daytona 24 hour. I'm pleased to announce that we have made it through qualifying, 4th in class, 7th overall.
My congratulations to my teammates;
@theewar
@Goodwolf
@Giorgio_57
You did a great job.

I will be trying to hold practice sessions for this race in my R/500 Arena throughout this week. If you can find the time to come and help out and fill up the grid with lmp2, GT500 and GT3 cars that would be extremely helpful.

We need to get our lap times down a couple of seconds each, to achieve that all important win.
Each cars spec is as follows:
Lmp2
Deltawing Nissan. 295bhp 515kg
Deltawing aer 295bhp 535kg
Courage C60 Peugeot 485bhp 950kg

Also, as has been the case with any 2014 races we took part in, we used a Facebook message board to help organise and communicate with each other and you, our friends, who have proven to be excellent spotters, to help with timing room entrance and driver changes.
I will be opening a 2015 campaign message board today and inviting anyone who I already have on my friends list to join in. If you want in too speak to either myself or Ade and we'll work something out.
Apologies for the long post. And I hope some you will be available to help us in our endeavour.

Let's Do This!!!

Didn't have my best race last night but there's only myself to blame. Didn't have any major offs but my consistency was terrible! I obviously didn't get the full measure of the track yet either with some blistering times being set! (Congrats Ade 👍 ) I changed my brake balance for the first time before qualifying and I thought wow! The car felt a lot more stable but I just couldn't get on my previous pace, I was definitely quicker with a more skittish car but I was even less consitent with driving the old brake balance! Overall was probably a good move for the race.

Just too many mistakes this time, I could and should have finished better, at least a lot closer to the lead pack anyway, not sure my position would of changed. Was an excellent race though, kudos once again to @GTP_ADE for all your hard work!

Now on to tsukuba :)

OK guys, large post alert! Its a bit of triple header.

Firstly, the results from last night...

A race of epicness. If you have saved the replay, do watch it back. Especially the battle that went on up at the front, which went on to give us the closest podium in Sunday Cup history. 0.486 separated the top 3, with Megg only just over a second behind them. Absolutely incredible. @SuperGrover commented above saying he was still buzzing from the race this morning. I was to, but even more so after reading the comments some of you made about the race. Its very rewarding to know that you enjoyed it, and is worth all the hard work which is put in.

Anyway, RESULTS.............

Race report.

Before the race, I had decided to start on the medium tyre. The logic behind this was that during practice, the pack was slower at the start. I thought that if I could hang around the mid/back, after 11 laps I would be lighter on fuel and would be able to progress through the field. This strategy did work out in a fashion, as I made up 3 places by the end of the race.

The first few laps were quite nerve racking, trying to avoid contact and any offs. As the pack started to seperate, I found myself chasing Shin_Roh and Third_reign. Sholesy managed to get a pass on me after a bit of bunching up coming out of the tunnel. For several laps I was behind him, and slowly closed the gap down, so I was on his bumper coming down the start finish straight. Several times we were wheel to wheel, but I could not get enough of the nose past to make a clean pass going into T1. In the end though, I did get the chance, and made the pass.

Into the pits after 11 laps on the CM tyre. I was glad to see the back of them. 30 litres of fuel, which is what was recommended went in and off we go again. Chasing Shin and Third once more. Sholesy chose to pit a lap later, and managed to get out in front of me and the chase was on again. Eventually I managed a repeat going into T1 and made a pass. I then managed to close the gap on Shin and was right on his bumper when I put in my fastest lap of the race. Thats when the adrenaline made me go a bit wobbly. By now I was seeing some wear on my RR tyre and I didnt know for sure whether I had enough fuel. I continued to press on, but dropped back a bit.

As I caught up to the rear of the field, I managed to get past Shin after the tunnel, after he was caught out trying to lap Rosen. My stay ahead of him was short lived though, as by now my tyre wear was down to 7 on my RR wheel and my exit was slow coming out of the final turn. Shin appeared from nowhere and re took the place. I was aware that Sholesy was not far behind, so if I could keep my cool, I would finish in 8th place. I was happy with that, but then was gifted a place on the second to last lap, as I passed Third going into the pits, as he had run out of fuel.

I had a great race. There was always someone in front and someone in my mirror. Thanks guys.

Season 5 starts in just a few weeks. I think its going to be another epic season. This race was a great taster of whats to come.

OK, I did say this would be a long post......

Onto other business. GC Garys has pointed out above that we both have teams entered into this years GTPlanet endurance series.

S.C.A.R Lotus team are in the GT Cup class. We wont be racing in any events until March.

85.png

S.C.A.R Honda team, run by GC, are entered into this weekends Daytona 24 hour race. Please help out when you can by practicing with the team in the cars listed in GCs post.

21.png

Also at this weekends event, Shin_Roh and myself will be entering the support race. Its a 2 hour race in the Mazda Roadster TC. We will also be getting some practice for this. I will be getting some laps in from tomorrow.

If we feel we need more practice, or we need to support GC Gary and his team on Friday, then the first official practice for Sunday Cup will take place on Saturday. I will then add another official practice in next week.

So guys, thanks for reading my extra long post and please help us out if you can over the next 5 days.

I'd love to get involved in the endurance racing, but sadly time is against me, and more importantly, I'm not fast or consistent enough yet to be anything other than a hindrance. The LM cars are WAY above my pay grade this year. Next year who knows??

And I'm STILL buzzing from last night's race. As @megg230 said about the different strategies mixing it up, it was for me like taking part in an F1 GP - awesome stuff, so realistic, and for that hour I wasn't sitting at home, I was driving a Lotus Elise as fast as I possibly could round that circuit. I swear I could smell the burning rubber, oh and megg please don't pick that bit out and quote it LOL!

@GTP_ADE do I get a special prize for matching my PB in practice in the race itself (to the thousandth)?

A few initial laps tonight at Tsukuba on cs and cm tyres - that's a very deceptive circuit, getting the car turned through the slow corners and the power down as early as possible is a real challenge, well to me anyway. I won't reveal a lap time yet, as I remember joining this thread quoting 1.23s around GVE(R) and thinking I was doing pretty well.....

That OK Grover, you dont have to reveal any lap times. I can tell you that during an impromptu practice session at Tsukuba, lap times were in the region of 1:07/08s, but that was with a standard gearbox. Hopefully that will give you a target to aim for.

The endurance side of things is something we have got involved in since June last year when we entered a team into the 24 heures Du mans, and surprised quite a few of the other teams. The team went on to record class wins at the Brands Hatch 12 hour, and Spa 24 hour. So this year GC and myself have entered teams into different classes, so we can run endurance alongside our clubs. You can still show your support, and if you wish to be added to the team comms on facebook, let me know. These endurance races are streamed live aswell, so you can watch all the action.

Yep, superb stuff, managed to undercut ADE doing a lap longer. Had the same thought in mind, run CMs and see where cards fall. It was gentlemanly stuff TWICE!! at T1. Always confident with going door to door with this man. Sounds like that was the way for the front 3 all the way!!

Got collected by @SuperGrover at T1/2 while racing @Captain Roh for position, but other than that pleased with the race as a whole to the amount of practice I've done lately and amount of online in the last 6 months.

Just be aware of your track map at all times Grover, doubly hard at the point of trying to regain control, I know!!
Just highlighting those little details we all have to think about, more a tip really bud so don't let me perturb you in any way. Rejoining the track can be hazardous for all, the urge to get back on track is strong, I know you were probably a passenger at the time. Only a warm up taster race anyways. You did really well for your first full race mate!
It's easy from now on, pffft!

Haha! Oh yeah, I felt for you there @scholesy1899. No where to go! Up until the very last second I thought it was going to be me getting collected! Ended up running into the back of you slightly and escaping up the inside. Pure racing incident though, I think the outcome would have been the same whoever the driver.

You're right about having to be aware however. Grover was probably best served to brake until coming to a stop and staying still till the cars had passed.

I had a run in with @SuperGrover earlier in the race too. In this instance you slowed right down on the racing line to let lapping cars past, I was unsighted and by the time the car in front went around you I was coming full speed and couldn't avoid you. If you do slow down just make sure to do it off the race line, or somewhere open and obvious. For the most part you don't have to slow down at all, the faster cars will find a way past fairly quickly.

👍
