Right, been rough as arseholes all week. Was hoping to get first practice Friday night.

Then got fantastically 'kidnapped' Friday afternoon all the the way to a hotel in Manchester, only to find out we were seeing Phoenix Nights live Saturday night at the Arena.

So not long back, knackered, no practice, but starting to get my **** together. See you in a bit.

Apologies all (Grover). I'll get up to speed as quick as I can.

I hope everyone enjoyed a cracking race! I did a solo session to mirror the race - 13 laps on cm, then a pit stop for cs which I managed until 54 laps were up. I think my room settings may have been a bit forgiving to have made that possible... Anyway here's my time. I wonder where that would've placed me? Probably last, but I got into a groove which felt good! Brands Hatch here we come...

Edit: next time I'll try not to get carried away and do 2 laps too many!

Fantastic start to the season. Tsukuba threw up some great racing. The tyres held our better than expected and that threw up spanners with a few opting for a 2 stopper. 16 starters, and 16 finishers is what we hope for and that's what we got tonight. Full race report, results and standings will be posted tomorrow as usual. For the time being though, its the usual champagne treat for the top 3. Well done guys.

@SuperGrover . Apologies for not having room on the grid tonight. Keep up with the practice. With reference to your simulated time. If you had done the 52 laps, instead of 54, going by your time, you would have finished 14th. For the effort, I am going to award you 1 point.

Fantastic race tonight guys, knew I'd have my hands full with soka if we made a break, which we did. Mid to low 7's and we were away, biggest gap must have been half a sec at most for 39 laps! Had a few goes to get passed but just couldn't make the move stick. Then pitted and came put 3 and a half secs behind soka, decided not to push too hard but found that difficult putting in mid 8's on the cm tyre.

All in fantastic effort tonight guys, sadly couldn't see you all. But 16 starters and 16 finish, amazing and now can't wait for brands Hatch.

Congrats to our podium finishers.

My race wasn't that great and I was doing my personal best times on both tyres. Thats what you want to see in the race because sometimes if I practice to much I get burned out and do the slower times in the race than the rest of the weekend.

I started on the mediums and after 14 laps because of the traffic I had to let the leaders pass me. That was very bad when I started doing my mid 7's on soft tyres I couldn't unlap myself quick enough. I was stuck behind Warren for some time, it felt like ages and you really don't want to take someone on the leading lap out. Letting someone pass you in this situation would not be enough of a punishment.

That chase weared my tyres more than I wanted so at the end I couldn't handle the car and got two spins to lose my place to ade and nomad.

In the next race I'll be looking for a way better position to get some points back.

Pre season race showed how close racing was going to be in the season opener, and it proved to be just that. Real close racing between Will and I, both of us getting a bit intimate at some points due to the track's lack of a clear overtaking zone with respect to the car's power. But we already knew that, we knew that overtaking was going to be a pain in the butt, so as Ade had mentioned, qualifying was going to play a key part for this race. And it did. Will had the faster package for the race, that's why the only option for me was to perform best during quali. I knew that if I managed to snatch poll and get a good launch and a clean drive through the first corner, then it would all depend on succeeding in keeping my place for 39 laps. Because the leading car into the pits was going to take the win. Pressure by Will was relentless and it almost paid off in a couple of instances, but again, track - car combo was on the leading car side. Massive thanks to sir Ade and to all of you that made last nights racing such an exciting experience. Now I'm thinking about Brands and cannot help but wonder: is it going to be a similar race to Tsukuba? I bet it will be, so guys, get your race strategys worked out cause it's going to get up close and personal all over again!:mischievous:

As mentioned was the qualify key to have a good chance of getting some points. So I chose CS strategy from start, change to CM when the CS was too slippery. As it turned out, I did one pit stop with about 23 laps left and the mediums served me well until the finishing line.

But it didn’t start well for me. On the straight down to the last hairpin I took a little wider line behind Ade to pick up speed, and Megg who was right behind me tried to fill the space but when our lines crossed, I bit the dust and ended up on the grass. This was a terrible struck on my strategy! Now I had to do the hard work trying to pass fellows with CMs and therefor lost my (poor) chance of hanging on to the CS-train. Well, I looked at the replay and it looks like a racing accident to me. Or can I be held responsible for the accident? If that’s the case I’m sorry for all others involved.

Thanks all for a great start of season 5! This is going to be something special.

Firstly, well done to the podium finishers, Ade for a very successful first race of the season and to everyone for ensuring that we had a full grid and 16 finishers.

..now onto my race. Disaster.

Having put in a reasonable performance during qualifying (I think at the time I was 7th) I panicked when my mobile phone rang and went back to the lobby! So starting from the back of the grid was a little disappointing but maybe saved a few from the mayhem of an out of control Woolfy on the first lap! As it happened to start with, at least, I began to make my way through the lower order (many of whom I were on CM's).

My first slip-up came on the last corner before the straight when pushing hard with Nomad (I think) I spun out. That was the start of the spin-cycle that my washing machine would have been proud of. The harder I pushed the more ofen I spun, which in-turn led to more wear on the rear tyres. I managed to spin into the pit lane and then when I decided to come in for a tyre change I touched the accelerator when the tyre choice came up, choosing CS's again!

That at least gave me a chance to get (for me) a respectable 1.07.728 (I think) but meant that I had to pit again. I actually then found the CM's to be quite reasonable and probably with the combination of more track time had a relatively successful run into the finish (albeit nearly taken out by a jubilant and spinning Ade and Nomad who crossed the line a lap (or so) ahead of me).

Frustrating, and severely annoyed with myself. Sorry to all that I took out along the way.

....things can only get better ;-)

I think i am to blame for this, rosen. You did go a little wide and when you started coming back to the left i got caught out and found myself stuck in your quarter panel. I hit the brakes to try and stop spinning you out but the damage was done at that stage. It was only a slight error (on my behalf) but it cost you a lot more than it cost me. Probably should'nt say this but i think i deserve a slap on the hand especially when it pretty much ruined your race.

Apart from that, very enjoyable and really looking forward to brands, one of my favorite (favourite) tracks.

Congratulations Ade, top notch first race. Shame about the persistent connection issues but hats off for trying different methods. I'm not sure there's anything else you can do to be honest, it'll come down to the individual from here. So for anyone interested in my fix check the spoiler below :)

I'll throw in what's worked for me so others might benefit. Very basic run down but firstly you need to assign your PlayStation it's own IP address in your router settings. Enable upnp in both the router and on the PlayStation as well as using the following values for the manual IP settings on the PS3:

IP address. 192.168.0.53
Subnet Mask. 255.255.255.0
Default Router. 192.168.0.1
PRIMARY DNS. 129.250.35.250
SECONDARY DNS. 129.250.35.251

Note that your IP address and default router fields may have different values for the first and second numbers but the 3rd and 4th should be set to above. The primary DNS and secondary DNS values should be copied exactly. Hope this helps. I used to have several different connection issues before coming to this method, now I have zero issues. None. Zip. You get the pic ;) 👍

As for my race I had a great one. Qualifying went better than expected, i was quite a bit off of my PB but managed to start third so away from all the drama. Was surprised by that, but pleasantly :) Got an ok start and kept my position, tried to maintain a good pace while not pushing too hard but that soon meant I was dropping off from the lead two and into the clutches of Cpt D and Bo hot on his heels. Made a few mistakes and eventually conceded a position to Gary, i was able to keep pace but bar a few jinks and aborted attempts I wasn't able to get back past. As we caught some traffic I decided to pit for my first of two stops. Little did I know this was a mistake. I was very impressed with the pace everyone in front of me was able to keep on the Soft tyres, i only did one long run in practice but I felt for sure the tyres wouldn't hold for 40 laps. Lesson learned! I came out in clean air and I was able to make some good pace, gradually catching everyone ahead. It became obvious fairly soon I'd made a mistake but I was hoping the tyres would drop off like I'd anticipated. I kept my foot in and came up to the back of GC Gary. Cue another great battle for position, unfortunately ending as Gary made a slight mistake in the final turn. Not long after that I pitted for my final stint on the mediums. Not feeling comfortable on them to begin with I was less than ecstatic to see Warren in my mirrors! He put massive pressure on me for the whole duration of my final 13 laps. I was just able to hold on but it was a great little battle all the same. I had a really good race when alls said and done, I had a few nice battles and drove a really consistent race. Unfortunately I only finished behind my original position by, yep, the length of a pitstop  But I won't make that mistake again ;) Though I don't expect to make many places in the next race, Hatch is a bit of a bogey circuit for me. Hopefully I can get in enough practice to rectify this :)

Congrats again to Ade, the podium finishers and everyone else who made this event what it was. Looking forward to a competitive season and some close quarter racing! Great start to the season guys well done

Shin mentioned static ip. address in the post above.

This is what i have done.

Assign ps3 static ip address. You have to tell the router what the ip.address is (under nat settings on my router). This saves the router having to look for the ps3 ip.address.

Put ps3 into DMZ (demilitarizedzone). Anything in Dmz is not affected by firewalls or any security settings.

On my router there is an option to select which console you are using and what game you are playing. This opens all ports. I,m no techie and i dont really know what "opens all ports" means.I also tried putting sonys port numbers into the router but the ps3 did not like that. (dont think i was doing it correctly).

It was a few hours on google but this cured all visibility and disconnection issues for me.

OK Guys, the results are ready. Firstly though, my race report.

Race report.

Was pleased with my quali, and starting position. 6th on the grid and CS tyres. First few laps were nerve racking with loads of cars around me. It was great to see all the cars on the mini map, all so close together. My original plan was to go for the one stopper, but like Shin, I was dubious the tyres would last that long. 39 seemed a very tall order. After the 20 lap mark, the field had spread out a bit, however there were still many close battles going on all over the track. I passed Shin as he made his first pit stop, around lap 23/24 I think. Knowing that Shin must of started on the CS tyre, I decide to react by making my first stop at 25 laps. Onto the CMs, and I instantly became cannon fodder. I knew straight away that I had thrown away any chance of a high finish.

But then I came up behind GC who had just made his change onto the CM tyre aswell. Mine were showing some wear, but I managed to keep with GC and was faced with the dilemma of carrying on until the end of the race, or doing the 13 and changing back to the CS for the final stint. I opted for the CS, hoping I would be able to pick up a few places towards the end of the race. That hope was dashed, as my only chance of making up a place was to get past NOMAD. I made up some ground and spent several laps on his bumper, before going wide into the final turn and loosing ground.

I thought that was it, but was gifted a place by Goodwolf on lap 51.

Awesome racing guys, really enjoyed it.

Now to the results.

The results have taken longer to do tonight as there were some incidents which needed investigation.

1. Megg and Rosens 1st lap incident.

Firstly on my replay there were some cars which both had the visibility issue and they were both behaving erratically in front of Rosen, myself and Megg. Rosen took the wide line into the long left hander after the bridge. Megg held the inside line behind me. Megg moved to the right as Rosen came round to the left. There was slight contact, which spun Rosens car. Hard to tell if the glitching cars influenced anything here.

Verdict. Racing incident.

2. Meggs pass on Shin Roh at turn 1 lap 43.

Shin was in front coming into the turn and was on the brakes. He took the inside line. Megg made a pass on Shins inside although there was not a gap to pass. There was contact and Megg made the pass on the grass. The position should have been conceded back to Shin.

Verdict. Illegal pass. Penalty 20 seconds added to total race time reflected in the results.

Note 1. Drivers being lapped. Please do not race against drivers who are lapping you. By this it is meant that if a faster driver is approaching from behind and you will not be racing for track position, the situation should be treated as a blue flag, and you should yield position when safe to do so.

Drivers who are a lap behind, but who are faster than the leading cars can underlap themselves, but must make the move safe and without incident.

It is hard on shorter circuits to find a safe place to yield, but please try to do so at the first safe place on the track.

Note 2. Chequered flag celebrations. Please try to avoid pulling on the handbrake at the end of the race. Dont forget that others may still be racing behind you.

Now its onto Brands Hatch Indy. Same spec car. Practice will start on Friday. Saturday is GC Garys 500pp club event, so an additional session will be layed on next week. Practice will then resume on Sunday.

gents my schedule has not allowed me to participate this season however from reading the race recaps it was like reading an international race report. with full starting grids I might not even get to make a 1 off appearance. but the full grind speaks volumes about how the series is run and the participants.

Ade you should be very proud of what you have accomplished!!

I would like to disagree on that wording, seeing as I came out of the pits 1 lap down and on new tyres this race. I was quicker than both Cobani and Captn_D by a second a lap, not being allowed to attack in this scenario would have cost me another ~10 seconds. So I would edit it and say: "Don't race a faster person who you are not fighting for immediate track position" (that's the personal rule I go by).

Holding somebody up only costs him and yourself unnecessary time. Although in my case last race, that segment was extremely fun.

I really have to start thinking more about proper gap management. I always caught up to my frontrunners at the worst time (corner entry) so that I could not gain enough advantage coming out of the corners.

I have no clue why i started last place this race. My qualifying time was a 1.09:086 and I paused the game shortly before race start (did not exit track) only to find myself on the last spot.

Thats the point I was trying to make. It was getting quite late by the time I posted my report. I will re edit it tonight.

Of course all of this information should be engrained into racers brains by now anyway. Section 10C of the OLR does a great job of wording proper lapping etiquette. Sunday Cup is governed by the OLR and Good Race Craft Guide so I presume everyone must have read it.

Regarding unlapping oneself and if you are on a different strategy and find yourself with more pace, it is still the job of the chasing driver to make a clean pass without effecting the lead cars race line. It isn't illegal to overtake a lead lap car (unlap yourself) but you should do so safely.

In my race at Tsukuba I only recall one instance where the car being lapped didn't yield effectively, but otherwise everybody did a great job 👍

I did see red "PIT" next to your name in qualifying, just the same as Canary.

A great start to season 5 at Tsukuba, qualifying fifth and chasing SoKa, Will, Shin and Bo from the off. Lap 3, Bo runs a little wide and I get past, the same again with Shin (Gary) 3 laps later. The pressure is on with Gary and Bo threatening to take third place back until lap 19 when Gary elects to pit and I breathe a sigh of relief!

On to lap28 and Third Reign unlaps himself from Bo with fresher tyres and I'm his next target. I feel TR's frustration at trying to pass slower cars when attempting to get back on the lead lap, different strategies will see this happen, but those he's trying to pass don't want to lose time either, more of a problem on such a short circuit. Lap 34, TR passes me and Bo pits earlier than I do, lap 39. After the change to CM's I come out to a clear track, a complete contrast to the previous stint, all the way to the flag.

Congratulations to SoKa for the win and Will for second.

Race 1 results update.

OK. Its been a funny day. There has been a revision to the results.

Meggs penalty will be retracted.

This is due to another issue between 2 drivers who had visibility issues. Very similar circumstance, however 1 driver could see the other, but the other driver couldnt see the other. I wont go into details, but it is in the replay which everyone has access to.

Because of this there will be a new procedure added to race nights. A proper "Roll call", where I will document exactly who can see who. Racers will be required to be in the lobby by 20.30 at the latest. I will make a log of who can see who before we start qualifying.

Also, Monday result nights will become provisional until finalized on Tuesday

Honestly guys, this 1st race has given me such a headache. Just wish PD would sort this out.

Anyway. Revised results and standings.

One more thing. Please try to ensure all future racing complaints reach me by 7.00pm on the Monday after a race. This is due to the time it takes me to do the results and ask stewards to view replays and get back to me.

I will try the static ip thing to see if my troubles disappear. And hopefully that make Ades head feel abit better. (On the shoulders...)

Is it necessary to have a full room to try the new settings on the ps3/router? Or is it another way to test it? Is the problems related to number of drivers in the lobby or between individuals?

I was having all sorts of connection problems myself last night - normally no issues, but yesterday evening I couldn't connect to Will's room, when it changed ownership I managed to get in, and almost instantly got kicked off again. Rebooting the PS3 didn't help either. I have upnp enabled, and a wired connection to my router. I didn't have any problems using my phone to connect wirelessly to the net though. I'll try again tonight.
