I will try the static ip thing to see if my troubles disappear. And hopefully that make Ades head feel abit better. (On the shoulders...)

Is it necessary to have a full room to try the new settings on the ps3/router? Or is it another way to test it? Is the problems related to number of drivers in the lobby or between individuals?
I was one of those you were unable to see. If needs be, I can jump on and see if anything you've done improves the situation. I'm hoping to get into a bathurst practice room some evenings this week. Otherwise, practice or 500pp club this weekend.

...

Because of this there will be a new procedure added to race nights. A proper "Roll call", where I will document exactly who can see who. Racers will be required to be in the lobby by 20.30 at the latest. I will make a log of who can see who before we start qualifying.

...

I usually know who i can't see due to the //////////////// loading bars behind the player names. This race was strange because during pre-race free runs I could see all except weescotman. Then all the reloging happened and I assumed only weescotman was invisible to me (loading bars). Somewhere between qualifying and race start my opponent visibility dropped to 13 drivers.

Btw here is the official GT6 port list: http://www.gran-turismo.com/us/gt6/manual/#!/onlinerace/portfowarding

I was having all sorts of connection problems myself last night - normally no issues, but yesterday evening I couldn't connect to Will's room, when it changed ownership I managed to get in, and almost instantly got kicked off again. Rebooting the PS3 didn't help either. I have upnp enabled, and a wired connection to my router. I didn't have any problems using my phone to connect wirelessly to the net though. I'll try again tonight.

It should say AVAILABLE when you test your connection, not just ENABLED Grover.

I've personally found that when you test from the xmb just after youve configured your settings, it will say not available. However, as long as upnp is enabled (and your router is properly configured) when you're in GT6 and check your connection status again, it'll then say enabled while you're in game.

Yesterday I changed the set up for the PS3 and the router. Static IP, DNS, port forwarding (actually port triggering) etc all with the info you guys posted and it did work! Well, I did go online, joined a room I saw everybody. There will be better tests at the official pratice sessions when there are more drivers.

And how did the racing go? Well, you can say that I got battered at Bathurst...

Race #01

With the biggest build up to a season in the history of the Sunday Cup and
a full grid it was an awesome event to be a part off!
My main goal was to qualify in the top 4 (I did not have that pace, but you got to aim high!).
Strategy was straight forward as I did not wanted to loose a lap early on.
The race was fun, tense and exciting from start to finish. It was a pleasure to drive among such a group of high quality drivers.

Awesome pic, Bo, and awesome pics Capt D.

Managed to get on for a bit last night, to help the guys in the pre race preparations for the next GTPlanet endurance race. Bathurst 12 hours isnt until the beginning of March, but we have lots of work to do before then, so any help will be appreciated. I will be doing the same tonight for a while.

First official Brands Hatch Indy practice will be tomorrow from 8.30pm.

A really fun session, I was pretty chuffed to get a 56.6 even if it's a second off the aliens' times. Up to a dozen cars on track - and what a frantic lap it is too! I reckon reducing my abs from 2 to 1 and adjusting the brake balance to Ade's giveaway setting helped. Catch you tomorrow (or should I say get left behind by you tomorrow?)

Awesome first practice session. 14 racers turned in times over the course of the evening. Great turnout for P1 guys. Brands Indy proved a great combo in the Elise, with the lap time on the CS just short of the minute mark. This race will be penciled in for 64 laps to give us a hours worth of racing on the 22nd.

Tonight we ran the lobby with the settings set on fixed room ownership. There were no visibility issues at all, even with a heavy number on the grid. The downside is if I get a DC, so does everyone. So if we run this setting on race day, we will have to have a back up plan if that should happen.

Tomorrow night is GC Garys 500pp race. Great event at Apricot Hill reverse. So if your not signed up for it, check it out HERE. If there is time afterward, I will open a lobby to continue practice. If not, next practice will be on Sunday and I will put an extra session on during the week.

Tonights times will be posted tomorrow.

Great first session last night. Im really pleased with the turn out, with 14 racers turning in times over the course of the evening. It was good to see what this short track would race like with a busy grid. I think its going to be a tough race. Overtaking will be hard, but can be done as we saw. Graham Hill bend being a great spot to make a pass if your corner exit speed is high and you are close enough to the car in front.

Soka took the purple last night, but there isnt much separating the rest of the field after one session.

T'internet seems to be sorted now. The first race I DC'ed just after the finish line and couldn't stay or get back in the room after that.

First time I didn't want to talk over you lot while racing, but had to second time. Not that anybody was interested ignorant bastards!!!!!! Think I DCed while blabbering on anyway.

That 10/15 mins was the longest I'd been online since Tues. Apparently something wrong in the exchange box up the road.

I can work on that time tonight. Bake potatas!

Great to hear its sorted now. Dont forget we will be taking part in GCs 500 pp event tonight, and practice will resume after that if its not too late.

Updated times following the short practice session we ran after 500pp club. Not as busy as Fridays session, but we still had 7 racers trying to improve their times. Five of us managed to, with Jammy and myself managing to get into the 55s, but we still fell short of Sokas purple time, which remains at the top for now.

Practice will resume tonight from 8.00pm and will follow the same format of 10 minute races using the CS tyre. From next Friday we will start doing some runs with the CM and and also pit stop races.

Great Sunday practice. Very busy grid with 14 over the evening and some races with 12 on track. Im really loving this combo now its settled a bit and most have an idea of the nature of the track. This race will be won by consistency and not making any mistakes. Official practice will resume on Friday at 8.30pm.

For the rest of the week, we will be training for the GTPlanet Bathurst 12 hour race on March 7/8. Any help will be appreciated. We need racers to help test the BoP (balance of performance) for our class.

Great fun at Brands Hatch yesterday! 👍:) In the beginning I was disturbed by domestic issues but they were solved and I could point my mind on the kidney-like circuit.

I don’t think I broke into the 55’s which should be nice, especially when it comes to the grid raceday.

I will analyze replays from yesterday to see how you fellow racers take on the few bends. I did some progress last night without the replays though. At T2 I noticed that I had an early braking point and realized that you can brake later and then release the brake pressure to balance the turn in together with the throttle. Nice! And keep it tight so nobody slips by on the inside.

About that, how much bumping is allowed? I mean you can “lean” a little on the outside car, but is that brother ready to support your eager to get by? :)

T1 is going ok. I think you can take it in 5thgear but for now I always step down to 4th.

The last bend is where I lose a lot. Sometimes I think I nailed quite well but I don’t really know how I did it… hopefully the replays will give me some advice.

And I didn’t recognize any connection issues on my part. 👍

Bumping isn't allowed Rosen, at least i don't think it is. Ade wants us all to race sensibly and for the most part I think everybody does. There are sometimes questionable overtakes in practice but come race day everyone cleans up a bit to avoid penalties.

The thing with these track and car combos is that the racing is very close quarters. And it is much easier to follow than to be pursued. However just because you may be driving a tenth or two quicker per lap, heck even a second or two, it doesn't mean you're entitled to barge past the guy in front.

As per the good race craft guide it is up to the overtaker to get past the overtaken without pushing them off their line. If you can't then you can't, its simple. You finish behind them.

Patience is key. These are long races and no one out there drives a whole race distance without making a mistake. If they do then credit to them, they deserve to win or at least place higher than me.

Personally I always drive with a little in reserve when I'm battling, especially when the guy in front is a little slower. I make sure I have a margin for error, whether it be there's or it be mine.

Pressuring the car in front is part of racing, but again it's our responsibility to do it safely. I really don't like being hit, so I do my absolute best to drive a zero contact race so those around me don't get hit either. If something does happen hopefully it won't be so bad because I left my margin, but if i gain any time or positions from contact I slow down.

If you're pressured into a mistake that's on you, but if people are bardging past you that's on them.

Oh and I feel your t1 pain. I must have drove that corner 40 times last night and I took 40 different lines! lol. Can't do it

Watching the replays I could see that my main error is trying to brake too late, meaning I'm later getting on the power exiting a corner, particularly the last corner so I end up having to be very defensive on the pit straight. Well, that and just getting t1 completely wrong and taking myself out and possibly anyone nearby too. I swear this isn't a deliberate tactic to discourage other cars from following too closely, although I have noticed folk hanging back a bit waiting for the inevitable disaster to strike...

I shouldn't give you advice because I can't even take heed of my own at the moment (think I'm picking up bad habits lately).

Not that I'm ever gonna get close to the front, but I'm not at mid pack pace presently either, which is usually where I'm at.

I've tuned some cars over the last few months from Ridox's Replica garage and their very nature forces you to drive much more like you would a real car (or similar IRL lap times at least). In GT this makes you slow and I'm struggling to get out of that habit lately.

The other lads may disagree with me about this.

You've got to explore the limits of the game. I'm not saying the physics aren't good but......

Put it this way. Watch some onboard videos of real racing on YouTube, then (especially when GT Academy comes back round) watch the top ten guys replays of TTs etc. The word exploit comes to mind, which I can't seem to do as well as others.

If you've got time, open a room on your own to explore lines and braking points, use track side objects etc to help, brake earlier/later at that chosen object etc.

The Elise is an MR, as Will would tell you, importantly, it's about controlling weight transfer, along with using a bit of gas to settle the car. I expect you know this Andy, it's just implementing it impeccably every lap.

As well as not being able to put the time in my main obstacle is nerves. On my own online with the same room settings, I've been running 55.3xx-55.5xx. Last night, even with clear track because I muck up I can barely break into the 55s.

Keep going mate. As Bo said last night, every race there's something new to learn, but I also need some nicotine at some point.
