I started hopefully, qualifying 14th of 16 on cm tyres, and before the lights changed my foot slipped off the brake - 5 second penalty which saw me in a distant last going into t1. A couple of errors in the opening stint saw me lapped before my first stop on lap 18. A lack of skill and experience on worn softs had me 2 laps down and lapped by the entire field before I bottled it and pitted again for a new set of softs which got me to the end. Obviously no exciting battles for position, and I spent most of the race watching my mirrors and trying not to impede the other cars - being 3 laps down by now, and then Soka caught me again to make it 4 before the finish. I hammered on as best I could in the remaining time but it wasn't any easier trying to negotiate all the auto pilot cars!

Great experience though, and apologies for the mic issues in quali - I won't bring the mic to any future races, if I'm lucky enough to get any, that is!

You did well Grover, better then when I first started racing with these degenerates.
Hope to see you race again.

Just about finished where I expected to this time round. Not my best result but considering the lack of track time I didn't embarrass myself too badly. Had such a manic week I'm just glad it's over to be honest. Sorry to shoot off so soon afterward too, had to be up at 4am this morning :ouch:

Had a few good battles on the journey though, great racing again I enjoyed it 👍 Was making time to the lead pack after my pit for the softs, but any forward step made was quickly overshadowed by a mistake and two steps back. I went for a one stop strategy, i felt it was manageable but although the softs kept good pace they were fighty, so defending too hard or pushing too much was punished.

Hopefully I can claw back some points in the races to come and finish overall in a respectable position. Think I've dropped a few places by now.

As always many thanks to Ade for another good show, I'm going to be around tonight if anyone would care to join me :)

OK racers its results time......but first my race report.

Qualified on the CS tyre, and started 9th on the grid. Got a good start and got past Bo as he seemed to stall on the grid. First few laps were very tense, but I managed to keep close to Goodwolf and GC who were behind Megg. Megg started to manage to pull a gap on the three of us and it stayed like that for several laps, until GC became a victim of the Paddock Hill sand trap, at which point Bo managed to make a pass on both Goowolf and myself. I continued to chase Goodwolf for about 20 laps. The tyres still felt good although they were showing signs of heavy wear, I was still managing low 56s. Then we started catching up with the backmarkers, who were all very well behaved. At some point I managed to get past GW and was surprised to see Bo in front of me. This must have been around the 38 lap mark, and soon Jammy joined us to unlap himself. I was hoping my tyres would hold until lap 48, as I was still making reasonable lap times. Bo pitted on about lap 43 as we tussled with Jammy near the pit entrance, but my tyres were too worn to stop Jammy pulling more distance. Lap 44/45 I pitted as the rubber had fallen right off.

The rest of the race on the CM tyre was just a case of keeping on the track. No surprise to see Will come from nowhere, and then Warren. Had a great little battle with Rosen and Warren towards the end, and was more than happy to bring it home in 7th pace.

Great racing from everyone. I was probably more anxious about this race than any race I have ever held. This was due to it being a short circuit and from practice we knew it could throw up some gremlins. That coupled with the lobby settings we used, made me a nervous host, but the lobby did the job and so did you guys. Awesome race!

Massive congrats to SoKa on getting the treble, pole, fastest lap and win.

Sholesy suffered a DC after lap 17. Therefore he will receive 25 % of the points he would have got if he finished in his Q position, rounded down.

OK. So we know have a 3 week break whilst the SCAR Lotus team takes on Mount Panorama in the GTPlanet endurance series. There will still be some SC practicing taking place over these weekends in the upgraded Elise, details of which are below.

There has been some very slight changes to the specs that were advertised at the start, due to it being a work in progress.

So we now move on to the Elise Club racer, and a visit to the Elise parts shop. Our car will loose some weight and get a small increase in power, as well as some new sports hard tyres.

TYRE UPGRADE.PNG

The suspension is based on the Nitron fast road and track suspension which only has 2 settings. Soft and hard.

nitro fast road and track dampers.PNG

Please install both the soft racing suspension and the hard racing suspension. Which is used is up to you. The hard will give a firmer faster ride, but may see increased tyre wear, whereas the soft may give a slightly slower lap, but may be gentler on the tyres.

Larini Sports exhaust.

The small increase in power comes from the Sports exhaust we will fit.

PLEASE CARRY OUT THESE MODIFICATIONS ONLY.

A question or two about the upgrades to Elise club racer for rounds 3 and 4 - sh tyres, and fully customisable suspension and transmission are straightforward enough to buy. I assume that fitting the sports exhaust necessitates some further power limitation to maintain 134bhp? And stage 1 weight reduction brings the weight lower than the 857kg specified, so are we to add ballast to bring it back up to that figure? If so, is there a specific position for the ballast, or is finding the optimum balance part of the challenge?

Forgive me if this has been dealt with before. Answers on a postcard (or you can write them in pencil on your discarded airbags if you prefer).

Above post should tell you everything you need to know. NO adjustable suspension or transmission at this stage.

For me the race was very good at the beginning. I was keeping Ade behind me for about 20 laps. Very close racing, bumper to bumper without any touching for the whole fight. Just like the good old days.👍

My tyres started to wear off after 39 laps and it was difficult to keep the pace. The target for the pitstop on softs was lap 45, so it was to late to pit now and loose more time.

On the mediums things got interesting when the backmarkers started to unlap themselves as they were driving on soft tyres. In all that commotion I lost places to Shin and Jammy who were also on softs.

At the end of the race I was held back by Nomad who was one lap down. I let him unlap himself on the faster tyre as I was really just in the way. He didn't run off from me as I was hopping for, but instead got into trouble with worn soft tyres. The same thing happened to Shin who made a mistake and was almost in the gravel after the Paddock Hill so I started to chase him down. Nomad wasn't aware of the situation and got in the way of my prize. He apologized after the race as he thought he was racing me.
PD we need those fabrics on the sticks, what do you call them? If you don't like those the technology really advanced in track condition communication so now you can see flashy thingies around the track.

I had a time to look at the replay of the race and I found this.

Yes I really am very sorry about that Goodwolf, it wasn't intensional I can assure you.

A reflection. Season 5 and race 2 is in the rearview mirror and I ended up at the bottom of the list. Again. Actually it doesn’t bother me that much - I have fun, I get mad, I have to concentrate and it feels nice to crawl into my man cave (it really is a man cave!) to share these moments with you. (I will try to use my mic and see if that disturb my kids next door.) All together, I’m longing for the next session!

But sometimes I get a little thoughtful – why can’t I take a higher position? Am I so bad? So slow? Yes, apparently! :) I should put in more hours behind the wheel but for the time being isn’t that possible so I have to use my practice time effective.

You know what? I’m gaining on you! I’m getting faster and faster!

I did a rough calculation in season 2 or 3 to see how far from the podium I was and concluded that I was about 5 % slower than the fastest drivers. (average). In season 5 is the gap about 3 %... You can choose to interpret the numbers in at least two ways – the podiums are going slower and slower or I’m getting better and better. I prefer the latter. :)

I admire your spirit Rosen.
It's a bitter pill to swallow but there will always be guys that are faster. Only a very few have the privilege of calling themselves fastest.

However there is no substitute for practice you're right. It's how the good become great and the great even better.

Study one of the faster guys laps if you need help with your lines and speed through certain corners, but make sure you give yourself time to practice by yourself. I know from experience that it can be frustrating to be left behind by the pack, always trying to catch up. Trying to best your previous lap on your own less so :)

Great thanks to everyone, Brands was packed with 16 cars, who could see each other!! Pity sholesy had to suffer a dc. Congrats to Mr Consistent Cpt D for second, and to Megg for his first podium finish.

My race was stress free in the beginning as bo had jump started from second place, leaving me a lot of space into turn one. From then on I got settled and didn't take any risks. As soon as I saw I had a gap of more than 10 seconds, all pressure was gone. Pitted on lap 48 for comfort mediums and 30 liters of juice, and then drove safely to the chequered flag. I just love this little car and the way it behaves, Red Bull Ring is an excellent choice, again, very good combo. Race #3, let's 'ave it!

Bloody Greek gods, they're all the same!!!

OK, here is my race report folks! Apologies in advance, as it is rather a long post, but I enjoyed myself so much that I just had to write all about it

Wow, what a race! This was probably my most consistent drive that I can remember, in terms of lack of mistakes (aside from my maiden, and thus far only, Sunday Cup win at Monza last season, a track I seem to gel with). The fact I was able to get around Paddock Hill bend without beaching the car in the sand for the whole race was really satisfying! Also, seeing my best lap of 55.700 was also a nice moment, not too far off the pace of the leaders (5th fastest lap I think)! In terms of mileage completed prior to the race (looking at my car’s dashboard), it was still one of the lowest of the field, so considering this fact I can be very satisfied that I had such a consistent run.

Qualifying went OK – I was dithering in the pits for a long while about which tyre to choose, because I hadn’t really given it enough thought beforehand. In the end, I went with CM to start the race with, but didn’t leave myself much time to qualify… so P13 (3rd out of the 6 CM runners) was fine, lining up just behind the ever-quick Weescotsman.

After the lights went out, I followed Will into the first bend, but Bo had a difficult start and I got alongside him. For the rest of the lap it was close between us, but I got a run out of Graham Hill bend and was side by side into the next fast left-hander. But, Bo then took a bit too much kerb in his effort to recover lost ground to the other CS runners and ended up sideswiping me (unintentional of course), and I was bounced onto the grass at a critical point! :nervous: I thought, “oh no!!”, but somehow managed to control the slide coming back onto the track, losing a bit of ground but not disastrously so. Poor Canary, I think, got caught unawares and lost a place behind me as a result. But, with this big scare averted, I was able to knuckle down and try to follow Will up ahead, as I was aware he was on the same tyres. I didn’t have a clue about my tyre/fuel strategy, so I figured I would keep an eye on Will ahead and observe what he did, and potentially mirror it.

So, in the early laps, I was able to follow Will (obviously being a great benchmark in terms of pace), and was pleased to keep him in sight. It was most enjoyable to watch from my perspective, his tussle with Cobani, I remember thinking “wow that’s ballsy” as he re-passed Bo whilst on the CM tyres into Paddock Hill bend! Great stuff! :P

But, then Scholesy started to catch me on his CS tyres, as he recovered from his unfortunate start. I had a most enjoyable few laps battling with him to stay ahead on my CM tyres, which I achieved for around 3 laps of close and fair racing, but in the end he inevitably got past me. This battle cost me time and I slipped a bit further away from Will. I was sorry to see Scholesy retire within a lap of him passing me – hope you enjoyed the battle while it lasted though, it was fun pal. 👍👍

Will pitted earlier than me (I wasn’t sure what the tyre wear would be like on CS’s of the duration of the race and he could well have been on a two stopper, which I wasn’t keen on), so I stayed out for a while longer. In fact, I did stay out a few too many laps, I think it was lap 24/25 when I eventually pitted. Prior to this point, Shin_roh was behind me on track. But he had pitted earlier, and the net result was that he got the undercut and ended up ahead of me when I emerged from the pits, as he was able to make progress on his grippier tyres whilst I was still running on the CM’s… but, this set up nicely the key battle of my race! Also, I noted afterwards from the replay that Shin’s pitstop was about 3-4 seconds quicker than mine, and Ade’s was 2-3 seconds quicker. Perhaps I was too long on the fuel hose or wasn’t very lucky, but whatever, this cost me more time and potentially the position to Shin.

So, it took me a few laps to get in the groove, and Shin was posting some nice times up ahead, but gradually, I was able to reel him in, bit by bit. In between this, I had a most enjoyable couple of laps following Ade, as I was keen to un-lap myself as I was fully aware we were on different strategies, and maybe, just maybe I could get Ade in sight near the end of the race. Ade and Bo were both struggling on worn tyres, I managed to pass Ade and then Bo (narrowly avoiding contact as Bo was about to head to the pit entry), but that meant I could knuckle down once again and I started to pull a gap on Ade on his worn tyres. I could see a backmarker ahead, it was GC, whom I was worried did not see me behind as I was trying to close the gap on Shin with laps running out. I completed a slightly heart-in-mouth pass on the outside of Paddock Hill bend…. My tyres were holding out fairly well but I definitely noticed a drop-off towards the end. I could see my main adversary in this race on a similar strategy (Shin_roh) up ahead, and he managed to make the pass on Goodwolf for 8th position. I too completed the move on Goodwolf not long after; my worn CS tyres still proving more grippy than GW’s CM’s…. I then set my sights on Shin up ahead, whose earlier stop for the CS tyres was perhaps now beginning to take its toll, as he had a slightly scruffy lap it enabled me to fully close the gap, and then, I was through to take 8th position!! Wow, this race was getting better and better! Then, for the final few laps, I knew that Ade was somewhere up ahead on CM tyres, and there was a small chance I could reach him… I could see the gap decreasing, but alas I ran out of laps and finished some 5 seconds behind easing off at the line…. Damn it, if only I changed to CS tyres a couple of laps earlier and had a slightly quicker stop, I may have been able to get that 7th place… but 8th, in the quality of this field of driver’s, is not to be sniffed at.

What a great race though, I thoroughly enjoyed racing this delightfully well balanced car on the Brands Indy circuit!

Well done to all competitors throughout the field, and to Soka GT’s most impressive drive to victory

@Rosenlundaren you weren't bottom of the list... *cough* but I too admire your way of thinking, and surely there's only one way I can move on the table too. I'm particularly happy to note that nobody has had cause to mention any difficulty in lapping me, so if nothing else I've made a step forward in racecraft since the pre-season event. Well, I've got to cling onto any glimmer of progress at this stage in my racing career, haven't I ? ;-)

Thanks for all the excellent race reports guys. Its very satisfying to read.

@Rosenlundaren , I too have the upmost admiration for your racing spirit. You have been here since season 1 race 1 and it wouldnt be the same without you. If you are having fun and enjoying the racing it means Im doing my job right. If it was about the winning for me, I would have given up a long time ago. But that is what Sunday Cup has always been about. Racers of all abilities coming together and having fun. (Im sure that Megg can find a double entendre for that last sentence)

@SuperGrover , I had no cause for complaint on the occasions I came past you on the track. You acted like a gent and gave plenty of room, especially when you could see I was in a battle with GW, and you moved right over to let us paass unhindered.

Yeah that was a great move by you SuperGrover. It's one thing to just give more space and let one driver lap you and quite another to completely move out of the picture when two guys are glued together in a fight. That means you are very aware of what is going on around you in the race and a gentleman racer that others will respect.

That's one skill down. Now be patient, put in some more practice laps and others will come as well. :)

Agreed, you were very aware of drivers coming to lap you, and always moved out of the way helpfully... really appreciated that :) more speed and consistency will undoubtedly be unlocked in time pal. 👍

I wasn't fishing for compliments - but thanks guys! I'll aim to improve enough initially at least so I don't get lapped so much (although the very short Indy circuit must've had an effect there) and if I can't, well I'll just need to get better at losing less time giving up track position...

At Brands I qualified 5th and got off the line well at race start to be in 3rd position coming out of Paddock Hill. At Druids Warren left enough gap to get on the inside of the turn and I was in 2nd place, wow! The plan now was concentrate and don't fall off.:nervous: SoKa's lead grew as the laps progressed and Warren was keeping close company all the way to lap 21 when Will, 11th at the time, exited the pits after a tyre change and became the filling in our sandwich. Meanwhile Megg (Gary) had been closing in and moved into 3rd when Warren pitted. The gap between Gary and I varied only slightly over the remainder of the race, even after we pitted on different laps for CM's, lap 47 for me and lap 48 for Gary. SoKa was long gone and so it was a run to the chequered flag for second, great race!

Well done to SoKa for a fantastic win. The Stewards have now requested a DNA test to establish he is Human. :P Well done to Gary for your Podium.

Some of the action.

Right then racers. We have a couple of big weekends coming up. This weekend will see Qualifying for the GTPlanet Bathurst 12 hour race, as well as the Support race on Saturday evening. Goodwolf and Giorgio will be racing in the 2 hour event which runs on Saturday from 9.00pm with race start at 10.00pm.

So to help our racers and show support, Friday and Saturday my lobby will be open and set to Bathurst. Goodwolf will run the first Q session for the support race on Friday at 9.00pm, before Shin Roh and Soka get to run their run quali laps on Friday from 9.30pm, so my lobby will be open from 8.30pm, as pre quali prep and practice room.

On Saturday the lobby will be open again from 8.00pm and set to Bathurst to give our main event racers the chance to practice some laps and chat about the support race as it happens.

Sunday will be the first official Sunday Cup practice session in the new spec Elise Club racer, so make sure you have carried out all the mods. Lobby will be open from 8.00pm.

Please feel free to join us on Friday and Saturday to show support to your fellow Sunday Cuppers as they take on this challenge. As usual the facebook chat box will be active over the weekend, so if you would like to keep up with the goings on just ask to be added.

Would be good to have the lobby set without tyre and fuel wear. I imagine it will feel different to normal, would be good to be prepared. Strange decision to have quali without it?

Its set to off so no one can benefit from low fuel/ fresh tyre Q laps.

Finally managed to practice for Bathurst. Did about 5 hours in time trial mode first (yesterday), in order to have the ghost car handy for set up purposes. Now, I've just finished a 3 hour stint online with fuel/tire off. Lap times with 275 bhp turned out very quick. I'm not telling anything, but I'm preparing myself for the chance that we don't get the power increase. It's not official yet is it?
