Great practice session last night. The late night on Saturday for the endurance race had taken its toll on me, and left me well off the pace. However some great new times were posted, including a new purple for Theewar with the first time in the 52s. I didnt get a recorded time for Goodwolf as I had to leave the lobby before the last race started.

I will hold 2 more practice sessions for this race. One on Wednesday and the other on Friday. The race will then be on Sunday and then we only have 1 week to get ready for race 4.

OK racers, practice session will be held tonight from 8.30pm, however I will not be in for long as Dads taxis means I will have to head off around 9.30 to collect my daughter from her babysitting job.

I will accept any times after this with the usual picture evidence from the lobby.

Wednesdays practice times are updated on the table. I had to leave early to pick up my daughter so only managed 2 short races. Canary was the only racer to provide a picture with a faster time than he had previously set.

Its another change around for the top 2 with Shin putting in a blistering 52.669 and Megg getting into the 52s to remain 3rd fastest. Final practice will be tonight with the lobby open from 8.00pm.

Cheers Ade. I expect that the numbers will continue to drop tonight but referring to the picture that I sent you I can see that Goodwolf set at least a 1:53:854 and Sholsey set a 1:54:522

Cheers Al, I was only looking at your time on the pic. It was a long day yesterday. All updated now.

Who can stop SoKa from getting three wins in a row? He has been dominating the first part of The Sunday Cup S5, but he will have 15 drivers on the grid ready to end his streak. We will find out this Sunday at the Red Bull Ring!

Awesome pic Bo. We will find the answer tonight. I will get the times from Friday practice posted this afternoon.

@GTP_ADE if there is a spare spot any chance I could join tonight.

Of course. I will message reserve drivers to join the lobby at 8.40pm if there is room.

So race #3 awaits us tonight. Practice sessions have shown that pole position will be a major factor to this race. The times we have seen so far could well see a change in the top spot this week. I will update the times from Friday this afternoon.

OK, I have been through Fridays replays whilst nursing a hangover. (Damn free bars at weddings) The updated times are below with a few movers again.

Lets hope the lobby gods are good to us tonight. PD have managed to break the fixed lobby hosting, which is a shame as it worked for the last race.

RACE POSTPONED

Sorry guys, but the lobby connections tonight were abysmal. We tried 4 different rooms, with fixed ownership being the last. Fixed ownership is well and truly broken, with no one getting past the loading screen. The other 3 rooms all displayed the same traits that we saw some months ago in the Jaguar race. I could only see 8 racers when everyone was on the track. I cannot run a race when I can not see cars on the track, as it would corrupt the results. I didnt want to postpone, but we could be doing the same thing for hours, and experience shows that it wouldnt improve things.

This race will now be held next week, which was a race date anyway. I will adjust the calendar accordingly.

Thank you gents for your patience tonight.

It's so frustrating isn't it. That one race we had with the full grid feels like a blessing now, an anomaly that isn't to be repeated. I didn't think I'd be well enough to run this race, but was just about feeling up to giving it a go.

What will the situation be with regards to the championship, if the same thing keeps happening every week, just out of interest?

Is there any sort of technical support either at Sony or PD that we can get in touch with, to enquire about the problems in general, and with fixed room ownership? I'm sure this possibility has already been explored, but it seems crazy if there isn't some line of communication that could be opened to report bugs. Probably so many complaints they wouldn't know where to start anyway. :guilty:

Maintenance notification scheduled for 18/03/15, hopefully this is a fix for it, as it doesn't quite fit with the update road map i.e. Lexus/alpine VGT's and/or course creator.

Only thing left in this game is online, as we see with the GTP Endurance Series, online has to be worked around to even emulate RL regs, but to not even be able to enter a room, for the casual player that would be it, for us, we will endeavour to get the most out of the game, for so long.

Poor implementation of your online portion is one thing, not being able to use it is another.

Hopefully it will be fixed and it will revert to the previous, slightly more stable state.

But that still doesn't mask the fact that the 'racing' tools are poor. Flags etc.

With that in mind, does SC/LCGT/S.C.A.R. have an opinion on PCars? I'm wearing my Devils advocate hat, the one with the blue visor.

Ah yeah just noticed the update notification on Gran Turismo World. Doesn't give any indication what it's for. Will only take 2 hours, are the maintenance periods usually that short?

Fingers crossed that it's to sort out the online issues...

OK guys, once again apologies for postponing the race last night. There was no way we could have held a quality event in the lobby conditions we had. We could have continued trying, but it would have been unlikely we would get a stable room. Also time constraints had an element to my decision as I have to consider those in different time zones, and the fact we are racing on a Sunday evening. It would make a late night for some if we had of managed to get a stable lobby.

Hopefully this server maintenance will resolve the issues we have experienced. It does seem quite widespread, with other online clubs reporting the same visibility problems.

For now, I will not be taking the PS4/Thrustmaster/PCars plunge just yet. I simply cant warrant buying all new hardware. Lets not forget, that although the problems we have seen since the last update, have been a right pain and caused us to postpone 1 race, it is only 1 race we have had to postpone (so far) because of this. Yes, we have had visibility issues in the past, but we have always managed to work around them and get a satisfactory result. Its just typical that after all this time, we found a solution with the fixed lobby owner setting, just for PD to break it after the update. So my fingers are crossed that this gets fixed on the 18th.

Because of the postponement, there will be 2 more practice sessions, which will also serve as lobby tests. Friday and Saturday from 8.30pm.

Sorry Ade, it wasn't a knee jerk reaction to the online issues as such and I certainly am not taking that plunge yet either.

It was more a lithmus test to see how open/closed people would be to the thought that, the platform most of us have used for our gaming over many years, and, the next iteration of that hardware may find a better solution than GT to provide us great racing, then would we look at it?

This is a purely hypothetical question and in no way am I trying to upset the status quo of what Ade has built, its that if we all continue our course of moving to the next Playstation, we are all together, SC is going strong, PCars is exceptional, would it not be churlish to ignore a possible improvement to our experience and Ade's hosting of it?

Don't get me wrong, I want GT7 to be the greatest.

This is way down the line by the way.

No need to apologise mate, running with those issues would have been a disservice to the SC.
I want it to be the best it can be and that is the main reason I raised the above questions, if PC turned out to be the greatest console racer ever, all we would need is about 15 more lotuses and the 'customers' would get the best product lol.

Right, stoned waffle over. Apologies. Ooh waffles!

In time everyone will migrate. Servers will be shut down, support will end, to continue racing amongst our peers the next generation is inevitable. And this isn't a new crossroad of course, we've all been in this position before.

In the past there was usually a brand new iteration of our favourite racing game to accompany a console launch, PS4 so far has left us wanting. Project cars has as good a chance as I can make out of usurping Gran Turismo and good luck to them. I'll be an early adopter along for the ride and I'll keep you all posted.

GT7 will come along sooner or later and whether or not PCars is on your radar, you'll all want a PS4 for that! I've made my investment already and fingers crossed I have all I need. Just think about how much money you've all put into new hardware over the years, replacing gaming wheels, building up rigs, its not unusual to dump a substantial amount of money on a hobby. Question is do you do it now or later?

I hope some of you guys will be joining me in the PCars adventure. I'll still be around on GT while the majority of you still are too mind, I can't wait to see what they're bringing to the table.

Right then racers. Here is the adjusted calendar. In a way, the postponement has helped, as it has made it possible to make it 2 weeks between race 4 and 5, as apposed to 1 week, whilst still giving us a 3 week break to practice, qualify and take part in the GTPlanet 12 hours of Silverstone between 25/4 and 03/5. By making theses adjustments, it just means that the series finale will be 2 weeks later than planned on the 7th June rather than the 24th May.

Lets just hope tomorrows maintenance sorts this out. I will try and get on for a trial before the weekend.

so i can't join the race sunday?
Only if there is space for reserve drivers. The previous races have been full with 16 on the grid. I also have 2 other reserve drivers, so I think its doughtful there will be 3 places available. Sorry. Thanks for your interest.

Good news guys. Update 1.17 seems to have fixed the fixed lobby host issue. We ran a test room with a few races tonight. 11 in the room over the course of the night, with 9 racers on track and no visibility issues. This is the setting we used at Brands Hatch nearly 4 weeks ago, so we will go with this again on Sunday. We ran 4 races tonight and some new PBs were set. I will post these up tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for helping test the lobby tonight and all Sunday Cuppers for their patience whilst this online connection problem has persisted. I was gutted to have to postpone last Sundays race and now I feel that Ive got my Mojo back. Haha.

Practice tomorrow from 8.30pm. Usual red tyre runs to start followed by some 8 lap races with tyre change.
