I have to report that I had a great race too, apart from the moments I didn't. It was interesting to note that none of us finished in the position we started and this time it wasn't the pole-sitter that won the race, Ade's race length strategy coming into effect no doubt. Congratulations Will on a good win and Gary for a close second.

Another point of interest is there was no flag to welcome Will, or any of us, home and an absence of crowds too. Another bug perhaps?

Some moments from the race...

Wow, such great photos! :)

Yeah another thing about the race, I really enjoyed the slightly longer duration! I never anticipated how good this track would be to drive on either. :D

OK racers. The first Motegi practice will be from 8.30pm tonight. This practice session may only be for an hour or so, as some practice for Theewars Jag race on Sunday evening is also required.

I will host a couple of extra sessions during next week.

Lobby will be open from 8.30, maybe a bit earlier if I can get on the PS before then.

Great first runs at Motegi East shows that the car is well suited to this track. Good close racing straight off the bat. I also ran the same set up as Red Bull Ring. Last nights times were set using the SH tyre. The times were close, with Bo setting the pace after the first session.

There will not be a session tonight, as its my birthday and Im gonna be spending the afternoon in the pub.:ill::sly:;)

Practice will resume next week, with extra sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.

TWIN RING MOTEGI EAST PRACTICE TIMES.

I think any difference is now irrelevant. If one person has pressed it we all must do the same. This is spec racing.

Depends of course which default numbers come on a new car.

Assuming you haven't before reading this, you are possibly in a position to do a before and after photo. The "default button" might need to be pressed online at Motegi east to repeat properly.

I'm not going to press the default button on my race car until Ade confirms that we have to. By all accounts nothing has changed regarding my gearing since I bought my race Elise pre 1.16. Buying a brand new car and installing 6 speed transmission achieves the same result. Personally I feel anyone who has pressed the default button only need buy a new car while everyone else leaves theirs alone.

However if defaulting the gearbox creates a significant advantage I fear we will all have to do so. Testing will be required.

I will run some tests before the next session to see if there is any significant advantage. Then I will post up my findings with instructions on where to go.

As far as I know, the values of the "reset to default" only change if rpm increasing parts are installed. Depending on the order of installed parts, the preset transmission values differ. So the settings would be different if you install the close ratio box, then increase rpm than if you increase rpm first. I haven't tested it gt6, but remember it being like this in gt5.

Ok. I have run some tests. Third Reign is spot on. As we installed the 6 speed gearbox before we added the sports exhaust, the transmission settings remained as they were already set at, which is....

After the sports exhaust is fitted it is possible to change the default settings of the gearbox to this.....

So I ran some test laps. I used high speed ring as the test circuit as its fairly easy to replicate consistent laps over and over. Suspension, ballast position and brake balance was the same on each car.

I used a brand new Elise and I installed the 6 speed gearbox before the sports exhaust. The gearbox was not reset to default.

The second test was using the gearbox set to default after the 6 speed transmission was installed and then the sports exhaust.

The test was run in offline mode so I could monitor the ghost car.

Although the defaulted gearbox did get the fastest lap, the non defaulted gearbox did seem to make a bit of ground through the twisty parts of the track.

I then carried out a high speed trial at route X. The non defaulted gearbox topped out at 136mph. The defaulted box hit 135 before bouncing off the limiter.

I will carry out another test tomorrow at a more technical track before reaching a decision on this. It would be good to have some more input from others as well. You can use the separate settings sheets A,B and C to set the car up with a non defaulted box, and a defaulted box. Just remember to add the 6 speed before the sports exhaust before hitting the reset to default button.

I would like to submit an official request to enter the Motegi event April 12th if the grid is not already full. :dopey:

It will be good to have you on the grid with us again Socal. If you can provide a racing number, car colour and podium pic that would be great. Also, the race is on the 5th April not the 12th. This is due to the calendar having to be re scheduled due to severe connection issues a few weeks ago which resulted in us having to postpone a race for a week.

Sadly I cant participate in the upcoming race. Its holiday and Im away from my beloved rig. Wish you all good luck!

Thanks for letting us know Rosen. Have a great holiday.

Tonight I have run some more tests with the default/non default gearbox. I have had mixed results.

In my test I re visited each track we have raced on so far and also Motegi, the next race. At each track I ran laps with each variation of the gearbox. First I ran without the box being reset to default. Then I ran the same amount of laps after resetting the box to default. These tests were run offline using SH tyres and exactly the same ballast position, brake balance and suspension set.

The car was slightly faster at all the previous tracks we have raced so far. At Motegi the non default gearbox was faster and quite significantly. I even went on to complete 7 laps with the box re set to default and could not match the time set with the box which had not been re set. Even when I managed to get slightly ahead after turn 1, the ghost car with the non defaulted box pulled away through the turns after that.

Conclusion.

The difference seen in lap times between the different gear ratios does seem to be track dependent. If the result was heavily in favour of one setting, over all of the tracks tested the the choice would be to use the faster gearbox.

Also, it is going to be impossible to tell if anyone is using a gearbox which is not allowed.

Therefore I am going to give racers the choice. Each of the 2 different gear box settings may be used. Much in the same way as we have a choice between soft and hard suspension, brake balance and ballast position. It will be up to the racers to decide which gearbox suits them.

Finally, Motegi practice will resume tomorrow from 8.00pm.

Good fun practice last night. Not busy with only 3 of us running laps, but this gave us a great chance to fully test the differences in gearboxes. It does seem the defaulted box can give faster lap times, however the improvement I made was achieved using the un defaulted box. All 3 of us did improve on previous PBs. I will run another session tonight from 8.30pm.

Just a quick note to say that contrary to impressions, I am still in the land of the living, and still hoping to get back on the circuit with you soon. I'm keeping up to date with the progress of the series, and glad to see that Soka is getting a run for his money! I should be on the ps3 next week (or my lad will, on my PSN account at least) and once I've got a load of real life hassle, including a house move, behind me in a few weeks, I ought to be back on track in earnest. In the meantime, good racing and good luck to all!
