There's no conspiracy theory here... it's just a simple case of supply and demand. Thrustmaster themselves have said that they have a supply shortage of T500RS, and when things run in low supply, they usually go up in price. When they become widely available again they don't just sharply go down in price, it takes a while. Just give it some time and they'll start to go back down again.

For anyone with an Obutto Ozone, you will want to use something close to 55mm instead of 62mm as it states in that document Kaelsberg linked. If you drill at 62mm, you will be drilling into the tubes that hold the tray. No bueno. ;) I think 55 should be good and will leave room for the screw head and washer. Just something to keep you from slapping your forehead when the time comes...

Prices never really went that low on them though. They had a couple Black Friday sales the previous two years. Those were the only times they ever dropped in price. And last BF was a whopper. 350 is a great price for that wheel. And it seems a lot of people agreed, because stock never recovered from that point. It spent most of the year OOS everywhere. Of course, no one's gonna lower the price on what little stock remains, since as you stated, supply and demand. Until the PS4 wheel is announced and they want to start clearing what they have left.

I know there's a thread for the TH8-shifter, but has anyone noticed if it's also gets a discount on "Black Friday"?

Hoping to find a set of T500 RS pedals... I think some iracing guys use the base with alternate pedals so maybe it's possible, but nothing out there on ebay.

I have two T500 RS units. Both sets of my pedals are bad (both have multiple pedals with issues where they flicker on when not being pressed) and both bases are perfectly fine (except for one very noisy fan), but both out of warranty. 👎

I guess if I can't find any pedals I may just sell both bases and look for something not made by Thrustmaster. :sly:

Used to have similar problems with G27 pedals. The pots tend to collect dust and carpet fibres etc. inside. Blow them out, preferable with an 'Air Duster' can, then use a quick spray of Switch Cleaner and operate the pedal a few times.

The fan is easy to change and will also offer the opportunity to move it to the new location, up against the motor cooling fins (as the Thrustmaster instructions say to do). The fitting instructions can be found here: http://insidesimracing.tv/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=3070

Fan is a 12V 60x60x20mm. Spend a little more money and go for a 'quiet' fan.

I'd also plug it into a different USB slot to be absolutely sure. I've got some slots on my computer where the pedals are defective if the wheel is plugged into those USB slots. It's weird because I'm not talking about plugging into some USB hub. And it's also weird because the wheel and the FFB will work no problem. But the pedals are defect city. Of course, I've now learned which ones to avoid.

MrBasher and I have been discussing ways to provide upgraded/improved replacement pots and/or hall effect devices for the clutch and throttle (and brake, if you decide not to go with a load cell). Something like this would definitely take the T500 pedals to the next level, but we haven't made much progress yet.

Maybe we need to renew our efforts in this area (you paying attention here, Jon? ;) ).

That would be great. I would probably get the load cell mod for the brake if I could get a reliable fix for the accelerator. I don't mind spending some cash as long as it's a good long term solution.

I realized I have a replacement pot kit for the clutch/gas from TM. They sent it to me before I was out of warranty, but I ended up just putting my backup pedal set in play (which is now also broke). And I don't have any instructions for installing the pots. Does anyone have those instructions in a PDF they can post?

If I remember correctly from some other posts it's a pretty involved installation. :scared: If it requires any soldering I'm not even going to attempt it.

Hi all my replacement T500RS arrived on monday thanx to ocuk by the way. Only problem i had i couldnt get the brake to calibrate on gt5 after installing brake mod supplied with the wheel it worked on previous T500rs. If anyone having this problem make sure that when you load the game go to practice mode and press the brake pedal couple times and the brake indicator by speedo goes up above half way line after couple of presses it should calibrate it self and go all the way up. Any way i want to get the load cell but it seems to be out of stock all the time same as some center caps.. Please please Mr Bodin

I had this problem the other day after installing the Basher brake mod. It actually worked fine at first as I installed the mod while the game was on and it calibrated first time on track. I quit the game and shut down my PS3.

The next time I loaded GT5 I was messing with the brake "to kill the time and get a feel for the mod" depressed the pedal a few times while the game was loading [and if I remember correctly also while the track was loading]. After that it would not calibrate when I got on track. The speedo was maxed out at about 40% and would not go higher. Nothing I did would fix it including exiting track and coming back and all the usual steps.

So I quit out of GT5 completely. Restarted the game, keeping my foot off the brake. Loaded up a track in practice mode, keeping my foot off the brake. Entered the track where I finally used the brake and it calibrated to 100% right away after a few presses of the pedal. So if you get stuck at 50% just quit the game and start over.

I know I'm going to purchase a T500 RS, but I'm on the fence about waiting for Black Friday to see if I can get a discount. The price of it rose by about 30 bucks on Amazon, meaning I can't buy it just yet.

Any suggestions?

I'm about to buy a T500, coming from a G27. The only thing that bothers me is the fan noise.

Is the T500 much noisier than a G27?

If I replace the fan, would I have a silent wheel?

Cheers

I'm pretty sure that even the noisiest T500 fan is quieter than the most quiet G27.

Even with the fan running (and I still have my original "noisy" fan installed, even though TM sent me a new replacement), my T500 is virtually silent during general operation.

High-FFB "events" (crashes, ABS kicking in, etc.) can cause some vibrations that may shake my desk and cause some noise, but even that is less noisy than what I've heard from the average G27 in similar conditions.

It's a lot quieter than the G27. But it's not going to be completely silent. It'll be silent when you're driving on a smooth road, but it'll clank it up a little under rough conditions. Engaging the ABS brakes on the Mazda in iracing, for example, will sound and feel a little like a machine gun.

Rough roads in general will also make a little bit of noise, although my memory is faulty on how much. After upgrading to the GTE add-on wheel, everything is exaggerated because of the poor design of the thing. The plastic on that wheel squeaks and moans about everything. So if you don't want noise coming from your wheel, definitely don't add that wheel.

Well, I got the T500 and I've been testing it. Very good wheel (must get used to fixed paddles) but I don´t agree about the noise.

The fan starts working after several minutes of GT5 and you can hear it clearly.

I bolded the line I did because I was operating under the assumption you would replace the fan. I don't think anyone has ever defended that fan. Not only does it make noise, but it moves almost no air. It's pure garbage IMO.

OK. So, if I replace it will I have a quiet wheel? It's annoying listening to it.

Will I lose the warranty if I do it?

Other thing I've found is that there's a big difference between ffb grades in gt5. If I choose 2 I feel the driving light. But if I move to 3, the steering gets harder than expected. That doesn´t happen with the g27.

Cheers

Contact Thrustmaster to request a replacement fan, then replace with the fan you want. That way their is a ticket giving you permission to open the wheel. Wont have any effect on future warranty claims that way.

Are you working on restocking your load cell supply any time soon. I just bought a T500 and would really love to upgrade the brakes to your load cell mod. I have run CSP for years and really enjoy the load cell feel.

Question.
What is the ground wire do on the GT wheel.
I am in the process of making a wood wheel but want to incorporate the button plate from the stock GT wheel on the wood wheel.

Definitely working on it -- I have 5 or 6 on my workbench waiting for final assembly now, but beyond that I've run into some supplier issues. Essentially, the load cell amp that I'm using is currently unavailable, so once this current batch is done, I'm dead in the water from a production standpoint, so that's dampened my own enthusiasm somewhat.

:(

On the plus side, I have been working on some ideas for an integrated load cell amp that would replace my current interface circuitry and load cell amp with an all-in-one solution. I'm collaborating with someone else on a solution at the moment, and I hope that we'll make some progress towards achieving a production-ready replacement within the next couple of weeks. Once that happens, then hopefully I can step up production significantly, as this supply issue with the load cell amp I use has been plaguing me for the last 9 months or so (and also delaying production as well).

Fingers crossed, hoping for some good news!
