-> After with that whole crap on the other thread @ Cars in General regarding guessing cars with blurred pictures. I'm back doing another worthless thread (j/k). :sly:

buickgnx88-> You went buck wild on you last one fella! ;)

unv412 & mafia_boy-> So HDT is like SVT for Ford USA then, integrated within Holden proper; not as a semi-separate entity like as HSV as today. And Tickford is considerd like BMW Alpina is to BMW AG, separate but still tied-in with each other. Should I also do that with HDT? I will edit HDT after this post. :)

G.T.Ace-> I'll get back on your car later, thanks! :)

unv412 & mafia_boy-> So HDT is like SVT for Ford USA then, integrated within Holden proper; not as a semi-separate entity like as HSV as today. And Tickford is considerd like BMW Alpina is to BMW AG, separate but still tied-in with each other. Should I also do that with HDT? I will edit HDT after this post. :)

It's not as such with the Holden side. Both have had their roots integrated as part of Holden but both have their own identity like a semi-seperate entity. The HDT's of the 80's you could buy just by walking into any Holden showroom and were kept in a different part of the showroom. The HSV's of today are the same, they are just marketed more cleverly and have their own section in the Holden showroom.

Tickford, on the other hand, was the precursor to FPV and was the only option Ford fans had here to get a performance Ford. Tickford was commissioned by Ford to engineer the XR6 and XR8 in the early 90's to give Ford Australia the cars to compete against the Commodore SS and early HSV Clubsports & Senators which were dominating the performance car market here. Over the years they developed the 4.0L SOHC motor from 150Kw to around 175Kw by ECU changes, exhaust changes and introducing Variable Cam Timing and were instrumental in giving Ford the R&D they needed to develop the 4.0L DOHC VCT six that's N/A in the base Falcon range and XR6 here and the XR6 Turbo & F6 Typhoon got the turbocharged version, now punching out 310Kw in the F6. 👍 They still have the XR8 & GT aswell (now 315Kw in the GT).
There were other Ford tuners (like Herrod) that are considered like Alpina would be for BMW but Tickford was Ford's 'factory' answer to HSV for 10yrs.

Hope this all helps TVB. 👍

He's 1/2 right. The GT-P stands for GT Pursuit. ;) The proper Pursuit name was placed on the utes however.

They're only popular now because 1/2 of Bankstown owns one and Rajab racing made them popular, 10yrs ago you wouldn't touch one if you were paid to.

They are just x-chasers, the BT1 was just a suspension package, just like the FE2 is a suspension package option in later Commodores and x-chasers.

-HSV-
HSV/Holden Commodore [VL] Group A Walkinshaw (limited to 750 cars. they won Bathurst and are one of the most collectable HSV/Holdens ever made)

He's right with this one, but it took 3 Bathurst's for the HSV Walkie to do it (in 1990 with Allan Grice & Win Percy) whereas the HDT Group A did it on the first try (but using two cars!! :embarrassed:)

I guess then that phase3 did refer to the GTHO.:) My supervisor owns an orange XB GT, the genuine article.:):)

Sorry about the GT-P, I forgot to correct myself, I had a look after but forgot to come back to it. Sorry guys, unv412 was right. :embarrassed:

Actually 10yrs ago every man and his dog started getting a turbo rotor, WRX or a FJ20'd or SR20'd car in my hood, no one wanted to touch a VL with a 10ft pole. :) I was writing for a car magazine here in 2001-2002 and I can tell you, apart from Melbourne (which is still VL central!! :)) no one wanted a VL unless it had a V8 in it. A lot of those people were all into S13's/S14's, R32's/R33's, or turboed old school Japanese muscle (like SR'd Datto 1600's etc.). ;)

But we're splitting hairs now because they are VERY popular now and for good reason, doing consistent low 8's at most strips around Oz.

3.Ugly taxi yellow colour in Vic,BTW are we including cop cars in Wish list????
I didn't think so, but if we are, get ND4SPD in here to list all the cruisers he drives around in then. :D

phase3 - You did the XA GTHO Phase 4 as the Phase VI (ie. Phase 6!!). It's meant to be IV not VI. ;) Seperate to that, there's actually a guy here in my area with a Silver XD w/ 351ci and it's got Phase 5 on the side. :odd: I've never gone up to ask but it's spoilered and looks full factory and it goes alright. 👍 I'll try and get pics one day soon.

Oops. I just put the I on the wrong side of the V. Fixed now.

Not sure about the Phase 5 but they definately arren't genuine ;) Maybe a dealership special.

It's fake, Phase IV never even made it to full production, it was scrapped, why would a Phase V exist?:odd: Just someone with some extra badges, but it's not a Ford made thing, maybe an aftermarket mock up.

The Phase 5 is an aftermarket job but based on the XD.....doing some searching on the net has given me more answers. Here's a pic anyway, it's small but it's all I could find.
xd-falcon-silver.jpg

And the following info I found off a Ford forum:
we had a phase 5 and apparently their were about a thousand or so made.
Cost was 18000 - 20000 for a 1980's XD with a huge 225 kw 351 v8
BUT the phase 5 was not produced by ford but by Phase autos of Laverton,Melbourne which modified the fairmont style body units.

Remember boys, they said the Phase 4 didn't exist and we definitely know from history that 4 Phase IV's were made and snuck out of the factory before the big wigs pulled the pin on the program and around 200+ Phase 4 motors were built and put into normal XA GT's (the RPO83 option).

Alan Moffat did his specials aswell, I know he kept doing his own hi-po versions after Ford officially called it quits, even as recently as the EB series Falcons he had a supercharged V8 GT-HO even though they aren't official Ford GTHO's.

Actually one or two street cars did make it out of the factory. Also as Mafs said the RPO83 basically was a phase 4. On one of the Cars Guide DVD's I've got they do an interview with the owner of the remaining Phase 4 and take it for a drive on the track. The value of such car is infinite :D

Since then people and dealerships have tried to make their own versions of the phase cars. There have been a couple of versions made throughout the years.

Yep, Phase Auto's also did a kit for the XE Falcons as well I think. I remember my long lost (havent seen him since the late 80's) Melbourne cousin had a Burnt Orange XE with the Phase kit on it......one tough car!!!!. I remember he also had cardboard cut outs made up to suit every window so as to ensure full privacy when ever he parked up at night! (?????) lol

P.S you really like Yellow SL Commodores????

:odd: I never said I liked SL Commys unv412. SS maybe, not SL. :P
I spoke of in referance to the BT1 VL's, because you said you liked them that ugly yellow colour . The SL Commy bit come from the reasoning that the BT1's were just that.....a Turbo SL with FE2 susp and taxi yellow paint (in VIC).:yuck:
