Amen to that 👍

I found Motorland to be quite easy to learn, but very hard to master, with many off apex corners, and unbalancing corners. The most challenging point for me was the chicane just before the final corner, as I had a fair bit of trouble being consistant through there.

The Camaro was just magical around Motorland, handling well above expectations. Just the right amount of oversteer, and plenty of poke for the short straights, with the gearing for the longer sections. Not the fastest, but certainly a gem for it's age.

The 22B was far too understeery for Motorland, but a better tuner could probably dial it in a bit better. The AWD helped out of the corners, but was a disadvantage on entry.

The Saleen was just plain horrible here, with the long gearing, it simply wallowed on the short straights, and the brakes are nowhere near good enough to take proper advantage of the main straight. The best section with the Saleen is the first long right hander, which it didn't even think twice about taking at full throttle.

I am looking forward to Deep Forest, as I feel that there is where the 22B and Saleen will come into their own.

Thanks,
Tristan

Good to read Goose:tup: I think the Saleen should be able to flex its muscles a lot at deepforest!

A couple of things to note with the 22B, The Impreza's have always been noted as having an understeer balance so to try and reduce that somewhat you could try a vcd controller, or if you dont want to waste a mod on that then remember that to help reduce understeer try to:

Lower and soften front of car OR raise and stiffen rear of car

Set front camber higher than rear

Thats assuming your only using the sports suspension, things get a bit more complex with full race, hence why I never changed suspension on any of my 3 cars last time round, it ends up taking too long to tune!

Remember that deep forest is a bumpy circuit so you might want to try the default settings and work down towards the softer end of the scale and see what works. Would be happy to work on the car and suggest something if you need a 2nd opinion. (Remember Im no expert and only know bits and bobs thanks to Scaff!)

Scaff! That GTI of your's is an honorary member of the Budget Division, and as such gets a Free Stage 1 Tune, allowing a further mod for this track, if you so wish!

Cool, it will be done.

Now I have to find the time to see if I can run it again at Motorland.

Good! Well, I've shaved a bit of time from the Jag (46.839") and the Mini-me (47.082") :). I used Dave's super-stiff set-up, and this was a total revelation! As the settings were more oversteery than either mine or the standard settings, I was expecting an already oversteering car to be REALLY wayward, but in actual fact the stiffer springs really sorted the handling out! I would normally be reluctant to use such stiff springs on such a light car, but it totally worked! I wonder how the Caterham would fare with such a set-up???💡

I didn't seem to gain a huge amount of time, but this is a short circuit, so any gain is a good thing, and, at this stage, quite hard to do!

Variable Center Diff.: Installed (Motorland Mod)
I have the VCD, and I managed to dial *MOST* of the understeer out, however I feel that it is a simple case of finding the sweet spot. Too much power to the front, understeer, not enough, oversteer. It's a prick to get right!

Timepost finalized

Guess I should throw in my two cents...

To me, fast times the forwards route of Motorland are dependant on only three turns and keeping the approprate car balance inbetween them. The two sweepers and the sharp left before the uphill in the middle of the course. The key is to hit these turns smoothly. The first sweeper needs to be taken like the sweeper in Infineon Sports, late, but not to late. The same goes for the last turn. The trickiest turn is the turn before the middle straight. Smooth is the name of the game here, and anything less is punished with either going off or slowing down to correct the line.

On the control car, I couldn't get a hold of it, so I have no thoughts. Which sucks because I really wanted to see how bad I am compared to you guys:dopey:.

I'm liking my cars, hoping Deep Forest will let my Vantage loose.👍

Where I have the most trouble, especially in the Cizeta, is getting into the last turn: the number of times I've ended up in the pitlane is almost comical!

I spent a few laps chasing the Cizeta in the Esprit, and you can see it struggling with the understeer, and with the direction changes, but boy, once you get the power down, that thing disappears! On a less fiddly circuit the Cizeta will ROCK!. Expect to see a few suspension upgrades along the way, too :dopey: The weight reduction was definitely good though - this car just needs too many modifications before it can really run with the big boys :indiff:

Edit: Time Update: Esprit 44.851", Cizeta, 44.367" and that's it from me. Going to Torquay for the night for a stag do. See ya!

BING BONG

MOTORLAND WILL BE CLOSING IN JUST UNDER 1 HOUR
PLEASE HAVE FINAL TIMES IN ASAP

SEE YOU ALL IN THE FOREST

You can all count my times as final, as I have not had time to run today, and I have not been able to get the AZ-1 during the week, as I keep missing it!

Roll on Deep Forest! 👍

I apologise for the delay in changing circuits, the first post has been updated to show the track we are on, and the final date for times. Final leaderboard shortly.

Got some times in, to get us going (full specs etc, tomorrow):

Lotus Esprit Turbo HC '87 (Deep Forest mod: Stage 2 Turbo; ballast 171kg):

1'28.194"

Spyker C8 Laviolette:

1'24.483"

Cizeta Moroder V16T (Deep Forest mod: Semi-racing suspension):

1'21.349"

Beginning to tame the Moroder, which is noticeably quicker than the Spyker :D Spyker is great fun! I think the Esprit should be quicker than it is, so I'll have to work on it :yuck: Haven't fully sorted the Jag's spec yet, but it'll have more power, more ballast and should come in around the 1'30 mark.

Hi all,

Apologies for the lack of times so far...

For some reason Deep forest just isnt working for me, anyon else finding it difficult to get into a rythym?

Unsure what mods to carry out for the circuit and havent found any car that can make snese of that middle sector after the 2nd tunnell....

Will persist later and post something up.

Deep Forest is a favorite of mine, I just keep forgeting to post any times up (and I forgot to bring them into work again - doh), so they will be up tonight.

Just strugling to find the time to run the cars.

Just strugling to find the time to run the cars.

I am struggling to find the time or motivation to even turn the PS2 on. I will try to get some times either tonight, or tomorrow, so as to make the Wednesday deadline.

Well, finally got a decent lap or two in in the Jaguar. I treated her to a stage 1 NA tune, giving 308PS, keeping her tidily in the 300 class, so I added the necessary ballast (168kg) for Power/weight ratio of 4.506. This will probably be the last time she'll be in the 300 class.

I'd been trying to break the 1'30 barrier since I got here, first in Motorland tune and then in the new spec. I'd got it down to 1'30.3xx", where it stuck for ages, and finally put in a fast, smooth and accurate lap. Fast smooth and accurate, that is, until the last corner. Unfortunately it got just a bit raggedy (!), going into a bit of a tankslapper under braking, and so I then made a drastic lunge across the grass in an attempt to save the situation, rendering the whole (1'29.9xx":grumpy:) effort void :ouch:

I was able to put this right soon afterwards, however, with a nice 1'29.474" which I was very pleased with. Can't wait to see some more times posted to see how competitive that is.

OH NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!

I went to grab the PS2 from my car this morning, and I realised that I left it in Adelaide!

It will arrive tomorrow night, but not in time for Tonight's times unfortunately.

Don't worry about it, we all seem at bit slow at getting to grips with things this week (here in the UK I fully intend to blame the unusual hot weather), just looking forward to seeing someother times up.

Well I finally got some times down at the forest.

My problem has been the circuit. Normally I go to the next circuit with my cars and drive it to see what mods might work best, however deepforest is a pain in the arse.

Its neither a power or handling circuit, bit of both and as such any power mods were going to cause potential handling/braking issues and any handling mods might expose a power deficit.....

Added to that all those lovely banked corners you see in the replays seem to change into adverse camber nightmares when actually driving them, i have found all cars to suffer with understeer here..

Anyway, decided to kit all three cars out with a wing. It makes the most sense, keeps me in the same category and helps with cornering speeds.

The times are in my timepost and hopefully are competitive, the Ruf looks comical with its "wing mounted on a wing" look, pictures tomorrow for you! All cars now turning consistent if slightly scrappy laps.

Cant go without a mention for the Spyker, its getting its ass kicked by the Ruf (Just) and the NSX-R at the moment, the full race suspension may help but im preferring it with standard set up. So much fun in an old school type of way, understeer or oversteer available on tap and wheelspin in nearly all gears when it passes 7000rpm, its fun keeping it on the boil and hanging the tail out all the way through the tunnel is too much fun lap after lap! Good choice ed.

So sorry about not getting into this one quicker, its the circuit im afraid, not good for me, but the cars are showing some speed at least...i think!

havent had much time to do much :( my cousin is up visiting with her new baby and i havent seen her for nearly 10 years so been too busy catching up and going out and that.
will try and get some times in before the saturday deadline though :)

OK set a time for the Spyker, an interesting little beastie it is as well. Can't say I would class it as a great car, while it does sound fantastic the handling is a little wayward. Understeer to oversteer transition is rapid and with little warning.

Certainly is fun however.

Spent a little more time in the 350z as well, knocked a bit off my time but not much, see what I can do with the Golf and Gixxer tonight.

Time post updated.

I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to drop out. This is a very interesting and fresh series. I hope more people find and race this great series.

Sorry to see you go Filizola.

No time to do anything for me, as I have visitors. So I will try to get some things done ASAP.

Hi all,

Dont think im going to get the chance to run another session at deepforest, so seeing as no-one else is really pushing here please consider my timepost as final times.

Got to work 6am-2pm tomorrow then changing the cambelt and rear suspension bushes on my 306 so wont have much free time me thinks:ouch:

see you at the next venue guys, lets all put some time in next week.

Ps any news on week 1 results?

Dave
