It was like a mild typhoon here. My umbrella almost got destroyed this morning on the way to school, and my jeans were soaked after walking a mere 800m. It's been raining like this since Sunday I think, and now finally it cleared up.

Oh. My. God.

That's all I can say about 8th November.
I jumped on the net to check out the radar on www.bom.gov.au and I was monitoring the storms moving through South-East Queensland. From about 11:30 am onwards till about 5, I couldn't keep my eyes off the radar and the skies!!!
The first large cell was approching us from the west, and as I could see on the radar, it split into two, and went either side of us like it always bloody does :grumpy:
Then I saw another developing cell to the south-west, which eventually came over us, we got miniscule hail chunks and an awesome lightning show as it approached and left  👍

But on bom.gov, they issued a top priority severe thunderstorm warning for Esk and Atkinson Dam areas. The radar showed a black area which is the heaviest rain and hail. Crazy stuff. Another black radar area moved from Kyogle to the Gold Coast area.
Basically, all of the cells tended to a north-easterly direction.
I still can't get over how many cells developed that day

That must have been God's/Nature's birthday present for me :sly:

Does Australia get many, if any, tornadoes? I just ask because black skies and hail is usually a sign to take cover where I live.

It's perfect weather here, around 60 F all day, no clouds in sight.

Chris.

Yep. I remember not too long ago our skies were pitch black at around 4 PM (literally as black as black gets) and lightning was going off everywhere. We had a tornado warning, but nothing happened besides alot of nasty wind gusts and hail.

I have seen about tornadoes in Australia, but not many of them. I have never seen for real, only on the news and stuff.
When there's a storm on the approach, the sky turns really black (with a green tinge if hail), and me and dad go out to watch the lightning for a while, then go back inside once it gets kinda close, or it starts raining. I know, it's kinda dangerous to be outside even when the thunder is way off.

Yeah, the green tinge in the midwest United States means run and hide. If you get the hail there is a chance it is being shot out of a tornado somewhere within a few miles. I remember growing up that if it started hailing my mom would scream at us to get in the basement NOW.

I would guess from your description that it isn't such a risk factor in Australia. Around here it is recommended taking shelter any time a severe thunderstorm comes up because you just never know when a tornado can pop up. I know I had a college professor that said tornadoes are a mostly North America phenomenon because the land mass creates ideal conditions.

As for standing outside watching storms: I've done that plenty of times. It isn't safe but it sure is cool to watch. I've kind of backed off after I got caught outside when a funnel cloud began forming overhead once. I had been out in the yard and I was running for the house. The trees were bending over almost horizontal and stuff was pelting me in the face, making it nearly impossible to keep my eyes open. Up until that point I always thought it would be cool to see a tornado. Since then I have decided that The Weather Channel can give me all the footage I need.

It's currently 38F, gets mid to high 60's during the day. Had some rain earlier.

By the way: How do you do the little circle (degree) sign?

From,
Chris.

High of 48, low of 42, a spritz of rain, and a gusty wind...a typical November day. A month ago, it was sunny and 75. We don't really have "autumn" here; summer just morphs directly into winter.

not to many clouds (sunny on and off), windy and about 10°C (still morning). ==> 50°F

update: sun is gone, more clouds coming up, seems like it's going to rain.

Well I just heard that the heavy rainfall we got a few days ago were the remnants of the typhoon that hit Phillipines.

Its dark out there, chilly and raining lightly.

It’s the middle of November, and yet it’s 75°F (24°C) and the sky is perfectly blue and the sun is beaming down and there’s a very gentle breeze rustling the leaves. Did I ever mention how much I love it here?

Funny, it's sunny and really nice out. Strange considering yesterday....

Were halfway through November and this month is already the 6th most rainy month in Rain City's history. Need I say more?

The weather is absoloutley mental here:boggled:, 3rd hottest October, coldest November since 1905, and it's very cold with Summer coming around the corner:(

today, it's fairly cold, and we got a little bit of rain to get things a slight bit further

Holy crap. A power outage on Wednesday. Winds of up to 100km/h. Up to 100mm of rain in some parts of Greater Vancouver. That was a terrible storm that struck us on Wednesday. Power went out at 1:30pm and didn't come back until 4:30am next morning. Heating turned off because its electrically powered. Had to do my math homework by the candlelight. It was like being in a hurricane.

Now they say a new storm is brewing in the southwest and may strike us on Sunday, again. Dammit.

It was 38 today, we went to the beach with the dogs:)

i'm expecting warmer weather soon

Bah. 38 is nothing. We got 39 (102) today

But yeah, screw that. I'm going to the beach too.

It was too hot, for this time of year. We're three days away from Thanksgiving, and it was 92 outside today! The AC wasn't on this morning, but it's on right now, even at 10:PM.

SoCal, baby.
