New Zealand is delaying its general election due to a handful of virus cases. Imagine the outrage if the US election was delayed for the same (or even any?) reason.

Wow...just...wow...

Translation: "I can't actually refute this because I really did attempt to gain the upper hand in an argument by responding to another's remarks as something they were not and got called out on it."

Now stop feigning butthurtedness as though I crossed some sort of line in this instance and either respond to that which I actually said or ignore me so that you can't see me call it out when you again employ these tactics as you're sure to do.

I'm surprised he didn't get a "Trumpism man" in there somewhere.
While Trumpkins do frequently engage in the sort of deceitful behavior that I've called out above, I don't get the sense that it's the result of that blind allegiance to your bronzer daddy.

Is it just me or is anybody else here failing to spot the similarity between declaring without proof that the whole election process is flawed and wanting to delay it indefinitely until it can be "fixed"...

... and postponing an election for less than a month amid a spike in cases of a very real virus to give the opposition more time to campaign?

BBC News
The prime minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, has postponed the country's general election by a month amid a spike in coronavirus cases.
The vote was due to take place on 19 September but will now be held on 17 October instead.
Ms Ardern said on Monday that the new date would allow parties "to plan around the range of circumstances we will be campaigning under".
Earlier this week, the country's largest city went back into lockdown.
"This decision gives all parties time over the next nine weeks to campaign and the Electoral Commission enough time to ensure an election can go ahead," Ms Ardern said, adding that she had "absolutely no intention" of allowing any further delays to the vote.
The opposition National Party has argued the election should be delayed as restrictions on campaigning mean Ms Ardern had an unfair advantage.

The Constitution establishes the date the new president must take office, and there are no provisions therein for delaying it. As I understand it, New Zealand does not at all face a similar conundrum. Man, nuance is really getting tossed aside here lately, huh?

As an aside, I can recall many occasions upon which you jumped into any conversations about the Electoral College to remind us that it is similarly Constitutionally-enshrined. I'm surprised to find you now seemingly either ignorant of or unconcerned about the Constitution.

In addition to that, it's a law as to when the election has to be held and it's in the Constitution that Congress gets to set the election day. The only way that the election could be delayed is if Congress passed a resolution for a new date. And given that Congress isn't even in session again until September and will probably be working for weeks on the COVID stimulus bill, I can't see them being able to write and pass legislation. Even if they did manage to write legislation, it's not like they'd be able to agree on anything.

As for the electoral college, it's the second or third week of December (it's something stupid like the second Wednesday after the first Monday or something like that). So even if the election was delayed at best it would be a month. And I can't remember off hand what the date is in January, but if a president isn't picked by then, the speaker of the house gets it.

None of this would concern, but Trump and all his goony GOP congressmen (save for Romney) don't seem to understand the Constitution. Hopefully, there'd be a lawsuit and the Supreme Court would do their job. I don't have a ton of faith, but in theory, there are processes in place.

I believe Congress has the power to pass a law which changes the election day due to exceptional circumstances. I do not anticipate that it will be needed. But I do expect delays in processing mail to delay the results of the election for up to several days or more. Also, I expect caches of ballots to be discovered after election day in drop boxes in which ballots have no time stamp, posing risk of legal challenges. ANY excuse for a legal challenge will be taken advantage of.

I believe only about half a dozen states routinely do elections through mailed in ballots. But for the upcoming November elections, I believe well over 40 states will be trying this method. So dozens of states doing it for the first time will be an adventure to behold.

Over the years, the US has seen fit to interfere in over 80 elections in sovereign foreign countries. It is well understood that Russia, China and Iran are determined to undermine our November election. I expect them to be joined by numerous other countries who hold a stake in the outcome, including Israel. Exactly what they have in mind is beyond my pay grade. But it could have a measurable effect, and pose a basis for legal objection or remedy.

I expect Trump to do something extremely bizarre. But short of a false flag alien invasion, I have no idea what it could be.

So, in short, the US November election could be the greatest, most outrageous, clown show/cluster**** ever seen on Earth.

This would again be quite the departure from your normal stance as usually seen in discussions on the Electoral College.

You're also wrong. Congress must be sworn in on January 3rd. The President on January 20th. Changing those would require nothing short of a Constitutional Amendment.

Ah, but COVID is just a liberal hoax in America. It's only the rest of the world that got the real thing. Those people dying are paid actors, and it's all a lefty plot to force the government to turn Amurica into a pinko socialist Commie regime.

You guys seem to be missing the point. Outrage is for crimes that are not brought to justice and are therefore an injustice. Person gets murdered and murderer gets put in jail is justice. Done and done.

Or judging by some of the posts here, we need to be outraged when a black person kills a white person.

Right, because in their minds they believe black people aren't allowed to have anything, even something as simple as causing harm to another human being.

I mean, ya murder is never a good thing, but the suspects are in custody. What should I be outraged about?
This is like a rerun of the beginning of the thread.

Fixed that for you.
I predict further furious memes on the meme thread in response to this. If so, then maybe that's where the outrage is.

is elected president

Felt right. Something about catching the big one.
I got "trolling" vibes from it--which is to say that you were suggesting I was trolling for responses with an outrageous remark.

*yawn*

Let me know if he fails to appear for subsequent hearings and/or trial. In the event that he does, I'll root for his capture and hope that he's held accountable, not only for acts of which he stands accused, but for fleeing as well.

Why should I be outraged that someone is out on bail? Bail is permitted under the Eight Amendment and plenty of people who are charged with attempted murder are let out on bail.
Yeah, but they ain't antifa paedophiles though. *fumes in outrage*.

This isn't even a murder case. It's funny how the good ol' Post Millenial calls him an alleged stabber in the body of the text but conveniently leaves out the word "alleged" in the headline. I guess by indulging in trial by media they're putting the idea in the heads of their supporters that they're all in danger from this loon.

This thread has pretty rapidly devolved into what it was always going to.
Thank god it exists.

Thank God we got the man for the job:
