The release window is official - IGN confirms it here

It seems the Q4 release statement appeared on the Japanese GT site - but only briefly, according to IGN.

They even give GTPlanet another shoutout! đź‘Ť

I just want to toss out a reminder that this does not clarify fiscal or calendar year. Fiscal Q4 for Sony is January-March.

Keep that in mind folks. This does not necessarily mean a 2009 release.

how many of those who read this think about a fiscal year?

while 20 courses are available, drivable in 60 different layouts.
what? Again? What is that supposed to mean?

They are quoting back to the oddly worded and painstakingly translated info we used here. They even link back to GTPlanet, meaning that story is not new news, just what we are discussing.

We are becoming our own news, and if we aren't careful we will create a viscious cycle where we interpret something someone said about us in a new way because they worded it slightly different, then they report it, and we interpret that differently and... :sly:

See the problem here?

I do remember the time they said something was coming Q1 and everyone was angry when it hit in April, which was Fiscal Q1. Also Pain promised their first DLC in summer, and everyone was angry when it came out the first week of September, which was technically still summer.

I have personally come to the conclusion that if I set my expectations based on thinking like an A-hole accountant I will rarely be disappointed, and often get surprised. Plus, I have to think that way because my company's CEO worked his way up from Accounting and that is how he thinks.

yes, WE should get paid... not them :D
Number One Rule of Game Blog News Sites: 90% of their news is a repost from another gaming news site, and they got their news sent in by a reader/member.

IGN says that it will be Q4 2009.

Apparently, that info was not only on the press leaflet from GamesCom - but also on the official site - and it was swiftly removed.

Someone at PD is going to get fired for posting GT5 news before the TGS! :D

Again, Sony's Fiscal year 2009 is April, 2009 - March, 2010.

Q4 2009 can mean Calendar Q4 2009 or Fiscal Q4 2009 (which is calendar 2010).

Note: I am not saying that it won't be Calendar Q4 2009, but I am making sure this is clearly stated so that if we get the game on January 12th or something that people aren't screaming about how they lied. This sort of nonsense happens too much on this site.

My full intent is two fold. One: To hopefully prevent the whining and gnashing of teeth. Two: When that inevitably fails, quote myself and tell the whiners and teeth gnashers to kindly shut up.

EDIT: And also again, IGN is quoting us. They did not give us new news.

OMG, a breach in the time & space continuum!! :ill:

At least they acknowledge where they got the news, which is surprising given the fiasco with the Wishlist years ago.

who's amar anyway?

I have narrowed it down to 3 possibilities.
1) He is secretly Kazunori Yamauchi

2) He is a journalist that somehow get's info on GT early

3) He is a secret agent hired by Jordan to break into PD's offices and steal info for GT5.

I like the 3rd one the best.

True - but when has a company put up a release date by quarter and was only referring to the fiscal year and not the release window? :sly:

IGN was quoting us on the translated spec list - the Q4 2009 release date was on the official Japanese GT site for a brief period of time. That news is strictly from IGN, not us. đź‘Ť

He doesn't exist. It's just the fruit of your imagination. At the count of three you won't remember this name.

But seriously we don't know exactly what he does but he does bring some good info on the table. đź‘Ť

As I already explained to hardvibes, Sony has done it before. I believe that it may have been a firmware update or the previous price drop on the PS3. They also had people upset with their definition of summer (mid-September) for Pain DLC.

I will now quote the exact IGN article you linked.

The details were confirmed by leaflets handed out at last week's Gamescom – also picked up by GTPlanet - which list a Q4 2009 release date. Gran Turismo 5 impressed on its debut last week, although its debut was in a somewhat truncated form, with the damage model not yet fully implemented and only a single car and track available.
And when you click on the hyperlink for GTPlanet it takes you here:
https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5s-q4-2009-release-date-confirmed/

He is just as mysterious as The Stig. Just appreciate him for who he is and what he so graciously brings to the table to share.

Some say he lives underground and that all he feasts on is glass. All I know is he is not called the stig.

Me too, I want his job :(

I'm not trying to get an argument started, FoolKiller. :sly:

I understand your point, but I think they mean Q4 2009 as in before January 1st, 2010.

I have been to enough E3's and heard enough quarterly release statements from game companies to weed out the fiscal from the release windows.

Here is the quote I am talking about:

IGN
"UK, August 24, 2009 - Gran Turismo 5 will feature some 1,000 cars and will be releasing in the fourth quarter of 2009, according to details fleetingly revealed on developer Polyphony Digital's official website."

That was the same information revealed on the GT5 pamphlet given to the press at GamesCom - the 1,000 vehicles bit is from both the leaflet and the translation I did of the GT5 spec sheet; but the 4th quarter 2009 release window is not. They put this up on the official GT site and again, they took it down.

haha, okay thanks for the clarification guys, reminds me of Mr.X on Muselive.com (muse fans will surely know what im talking about), off to re-read the thread, carefully this time.

I know you're not...because I am not arguing, as you will see below.

I have not once argued that this means a release after January 1st. I am suggesting caution, as I know how this forum reacts when the general population misinterprets information.

Here is the quote I am talking about:

I work in media research and while my focus is broadcast news, I can dissect a print news story just as easily. Every reference given for their information credits GTPlanet.

What you quoted is the introductory summary paragraph. This paragraph is designed to tease with main points. For Internet print it is used to get click throughs on the main page (more advertising revenue) and to get people using a news reader RSS feed to click on it, being directed to the story (again, ad revenues).

Then the heart of the story is contained in a two paragraph body. The first paragraph addresses the first point, 1,000 cars, as well as other, not quite as attention grabbing details (EV cars, tracks). It references GTPlanet. The second paragraph discusses the second point, Q4 2009 release date, which was obtained from a pamphlet. It also references GTPlanet.

I know the first paragraph appears misleading, but it won't be a first for IGN, or media in general. So, unless I am missing some other moment when details appeared and disappeared on PD's site, it is my opinion that this is all referring back to us. Mainly because journalism sites take screen grabs first in case it does disappear.

Compare this to TV news: Say you are watching Heroes on Monday Night on WTLV (NBC) and during a commercial break there is a small news ad (typically just before the show comes back from commercial) and the anchor says, "An expert says a food you eat everyday may be dangerous. More at 11 on First Coast News At 11." Then you are freaking out and tune it to First Coast News at 11, and 20 minutes in they finally get to the 1 minute and 20 second story where an associate professor for Northeastern South Florida State School of Culinary Science has submitted research for peer review that says bacon can cause high cholesterol. It's not really legitimate news but you watched through two commercial breaks and have now had the weather and sports teased enough to decide to sit through a third commercial break.

So I'm not the only one that sees through this propaganda.

LOL! I know you aren't arguing either - I only posted that about "not wanting to start an argument" because I think you missed what I was trying to say and by reiterating it again and again, I thought you might mistake it for the beginnings of an argument. That's all. :sly:

That is what I was saying. :D

Nothing from our translated spec sheet shows a release window - but IGN is reporting that they saw something on PD's official site that confirmed the release date contained on the GamesCom press pamphlet.

I too, would like to see this missing PD post - if only to properly translate it! :sly:

If I were a gambling man, and I'm not, I would say that it doesn't exist and IGN is being IGN.

Professional journalism is not one of their finer points.

Here is snapshots of the screen from the Japanese website
that where pulled down.
