That's called an alcoholic right? I'm the opposite in that I love drinking but don't like that overly drunk feeling

This. This annoys me. But then I suppose that's the intent.

Just to be clear, @AbsoluteBarstool, I'm not suggesting that you've just used it with such an intent, because it seems you've merely pinpointed it as one element of the aforementioned identity politics, but it's a quick way for someone on "the right" to dismiss any concerns over policy decisions presented by someone on "the left" as motivated only by hatred for the individual responsible for them and therefore lacking any real substance. Because it's easier to attack the person than address their position.

There's the thing that really gets me - something that, since that whole fault in communication in GamerGate, has just never seen anything that resembles truly good intentions.

I personally don't identify as a gamer or a musician or a bloke of any sort, I'm just AbsoluteBarstool and that's really as far as it goes for me. Even on the anti-SJW side, there's strong themes of stuff like white pride, using being gay or a woman to try and strengthen the apparent basis of a point and it's all a bit like a game that's really run away with itself. I therefore give a thoroughly frowny squint to the fact of the times preventing us from talking seriously about political issues.

I hope you took shelter then managed to get hit by lightning because you were waving a terribl.... I give up.

What do you mean by 'why'?

I mean there are poeple who enjoy the drink itself and drink a responsible amount, and there are some people who don't care what kind of drink it is, all they want in it is alcohol and they drink it just because they can get drunk because of it. And some people think being drunk is 'good'.

I am one of those people. What you’re talking about is called alcoholism in most cases.

If alcohol didn’t give people a high, they might as well drink tea or fruit juice.

I don’t understand what confuses and annoys you about people wanting to get drunk.

I'm usually pretty good at picturing in my head how or why something works, but i noticed something the other day that i just couldn't get my head around and had been really frustrating me.

I have a jacket that i usually sling on when i go out to walk the dogs. It has pockets at the front on the outside and pockets inside the jacket also at the front. The pockets exist almost exactly in the same place, just one is entered from the outside (for your hands) and one on the inside (for your stuff). The inside pocket has a few bags in it and some folded up paper. When i put my hand in the outside pocket i can clearly feel the thick wad of stuff that's in the inside pocket. Now this is where it gets odd (or doesn't if you can clearly get your head around it unlike myself) - i'm feeling this stuff on the back of my hand not the palm as i'd/you'd expect. The material in the inner pockets is outside of the outer pocket...

I have actually had a look at the jacket since and know why this is the case, but when i first realised/thought about it - when i was stood there out in the cold at a late hour i was just confused at how that could possibly be.

It's not good...

...it's fantastic

I don't really get being drunk either. Than again I'm of the belief that my body is programmed differently as once I get passed the "buzzed" phase I feel horrible and don't even want to see alcohol.

This one is a lack of understanding on part of differentiated species. I'm not sure if it's a sound frequency thing, or perhaps a particular chemical smell from paint, but our dog hates UPS. FedEx trucks go by and there's no problem, but if a UPS truck is anywhere within a quarter mile of my house he completely loses his mind. He'll start going crazy and I won't know why until the truck turns down onto our street. It's really weird.

On a similar note, who in their right mind thinks it's a good idea to walk their dogs at 3am? I mean, if they have to go then just let them into the back yard. We have these nut jobs that have no problem agitating every dog in the neighborhood and waking people up in the middle of the night to have their little stroll with what I can only assume must be some pretty sexy canines.

In online games, when you get accused of hacking by other players even though you're just outsmarting/outplaying them.

It's annoying for someone such as myself who doesn't mess around with hacks or mods, but at the same time it's pretty amusing. :D

Who thinks it's a good idea to leave their barky dog outside overnight to bother the neighborhood when someone passes by walking a dog? Enjoying the quiet solace of a late night walk isn't as confusing or annoying as that.

Charlie isn't a trained dog. He came with my brother after his wife cheated on him and forced him to sell the house. With child-support raping him financially and the cost of living around here, we were the only place for him and the dog to go. Charlie behaves well enough and is pretty laid back except for special instances, but he is not to the standards that would allow him to be inside with us. I wouldn't call him barky. Plenty of people walk by throughout the day and he doesn't make a peep.

I can't speak for the other families here, about half of the neighborhood, that have outdoor dogs. You'd have to ask them yourself.

And I'm not knocking on night-time walks of any kind, but there are PLENTY of hours during/after sunset to get it done before it's just strange and irritating.

Oh God, looks like my English is really on a scholastic level.

If you drink that much that you have a good mood, you laugh, etc. that's okay, you are even funnier then.

If you drink that much that you are lying on the ground and can't even speak, then it's a serious problem. (This is what I have spoken of before)

No need to hate. It's only a teenager's idiotic opinion. ;)

I’m not hating at all. All I’m pointing out is that some of us (myself included) only know one way to drink at that is to get blackout drunk for several days in a row and end up comatosed. It’s not big, it’s not clever, but hey, that’s the nature of addiction.

Perfect example is the late New Years parry I’m skipping in just an hours time because there will be alcohol there. If I attend, as I have in previous year, I will drink until the place is dry and not know how I got home and probably lose my whole weekend as a result. The other attendees are ‘normal’ drinkers and thus don’t have a problem attending social events with alcohol involved.

And its annoying that people allow themself to do this even though they know it's not a healthy choice. Yes, I'm saying the word allow. And that's because these type of people KNOW they have a problem. If they know they have a problem, shouldn't they try and get help? They should, but some don't and it will always confuse the hell out me when they don't want help. Or even think of getting help.

I'm not trying to sound like an :censored:hole here, but I've asked my family countless times to not bother me while I'm editing photos and videos yet they do it anyway. I'm now sitting in front of the computer trying to figure out what I was supposed to add to a new graphics package I was creating

Not everybody wants help. I know many alcoholics who deny they have a problem. I know many who have sought help in one way or another.

The mind of an addict is a very bizarre thing. For me personally it’s like an internal battle between 2 sides. On side wants to stay sober and be good. The other wants to drink and get buzzed. Those sides are like Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde.

I’ve described addiction to others in the flowing way: we’re all addicted (naturally) to food, we think about it a lot, spend a lot of time involved with it and it’s something we try not to go without if possible. The same can be said for the choice substance of an addict. When you’re hungry your body is telling you to eat food, you may feel uncomfortable in your stomach, lethargic, moody, short tempered, not 100%, etc. The problem with substance abuse is often the addiction feels like a hunger. Would you deny yourself food knowing you need it to be content? I find it hard to deny myself nicotine because it has negative effects on me during withdrawal, much like not eating for a week would do to a person (ignoring ketosis).

I’ve been off the booze now since last March and only had a few weeks relapse during that time but even now, without any trace of alcohol in my system, I want to drink, I crave the perceived lack of blame for my actions and I want that escape from what I feel is just a facade; the real me is drunk Shem, I enjoy being him because he’s the Tyler Durden to my nameless average Joe. Normal me is just a cage I’m in until the alcohol frees the real me from bondage.

I don’t mean this as a criticism of your opinion I would just like to help others to understand that drinking beyond a reasonable level happens for many reasons.

Sorry for the double post, I just saw this and don’t know how to edit a quote into a post.

I highly appreciate this post. That's very personal, and nicely worded.

Not to say what you said didn't mean anything to me, because it certainly did, I must admit that it doesn't necessarily change my opinion or "feeling" towards it though. I've know ten addicts, some have been sober for a long time now, and some are no longer with us. But every single one of them absolutely wanted help. It tears my heart apart to even think that somebody in their right state of mind wouldn't want help. Suicidal people may be an exception. And I only say that because some want to die and drugs/alcohol may be the way they choose to go whether they have had an addiction in the past or not.

Again, I really appreciate your post.

Again, I really appreciate your post.

Happy to share.

It’s funny you mention suicide as an exception because I’ve drank with suicidal tendencies on a few occasions and the soul purpose was self destruction. My most recently relaps caused me to make an attempt and I do think you’re right. If somebody loses the will to live then there’s no impetus for them to seek help since they are on the ‘right’ path anyway.
