Did someone say settings?? (*eyes light up*). I'd be willing to play with the Buick, I've finished with my cars for now (except my Supra, of course:)). I'll see what I come up with.

hey thanks guys for the buick stuff! i would be grateful if u pmed me the setup. DE i've read and not broken any rules, and in the wheelie pic it's going wrong way because i was trying to get some good pics from photo drive

Hey all, Im what you would call really new to this challenge. Now unfortunately this thread is near 360 pages long (a nice number btw), so sifting thru that might take almost as long as getting a Zonda to 300 on my own.

From the looks of it, the Skyline R34s seem to do well above the magic number, so Im thinking Ill start my land speed journey with one of those (just picked up brand new 02 V-spec 2 Nur in Bay side blue for the occasion). So beyond playing games with the gearing (which I know about), what are some of the real basics to going insanely fast?

Spray and downforce tweaking. Some AWDs actually like max downforce. Nose high, tail low. RWD will usually want max rear downforce, then just add front until it stops pulling off the ground if it does.

Dammit RJ, beat me to it. You forgot to mention the specific method of tuning for 4WD's in particular...:D. For race cars, you'd need springs at minimum and as much downforce as possible. For Skylines... well, not everybody can get drive at 340+mph. But you can try :). Just out of interest, I updated my Gillet Vertigo speed, but it's useless until DE gets back :(. I also played with the RUF CTR2, in the vain hope of getting a reasonble speed. 293mph isn't bad though, for a car with no aerodynamics...

With about 45min of tweaking I'm up to 291.5, so I think it was a great place to start.

Oh, Rotary, I used your Abit Audi touring set up, and added a stage 1 turbo and racing chip, and Bob keeps winning and winning for me. Means I can spend my hard earned money on things like going very very fast.

Well I've been following this forum, and specifically this thread and this is my first post. The things you guys do with these cars is absolutely amazing. The reason I haven't posted until now is that I didn't want to be another person just getting over 300mph with the minolta or GT1 or the other tons of cars on the list. Instead I went for it with a different car. I hope the picture comes out right. http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg220/2008GrabberGT/IMG_0082.jpg

Jake

Edit: I also have reached 320+ with the 3000gt but I don't have the pictures available at the moment.

Welcome to the thread! Your speed seems amazing, alright. I've only reached 293 with it. However, I'm not entirely sure whether your speed is possible... sorry, but this car has never been used over 300mph before, so we might be a bit suspicious. Could you please post the settings? (which would help us determine how you're attaining that speed) As these rules say...
-1.3 Video proof can be requested for any particular speed which is suspected of breaking any rule(s).
2. At no point in your run must any of the car's wheels leave the ground. At no point in your run must your car make contact with any barrier, visible or invisible.
4. You must not at any point in your top speed attempt travel backwards around the course.

The Fairlady Z doesn't wheelie much, but you may have gone backwards! I'm not sure whether Dark Elite (the one and only ruler of this comp) will say the same things, but we'll find out when he gets back 👍. Sorry for grilling you on your first post here.

Edit: You have some very nice mustang pics on your photobucket!

Okay I'm now looking for advice on how to reduce video file size? Photobucket only allows videos 100MB or less. I reduced the quality on my cam some but I hate to cut it down to much and come out with a poor vid. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the compliment. Can you tell that I was excited when I first bought it for my wife?

Okay now that I've finally got the right size video file, and it's done uploading, Maybe I can get back to driving my car rather than proving that it can achieve the speeds that it has :) I also noticed that you called it the Fairlady Z?? You sure you were driving the same car as I? The one I have is the Concept LM 350Z

Edit: Working on another record breaking speed....stay tuned!!

He's online now. Which means... I have a new speed! I'll put the link in very shortly. And I gotta find my Gillet Vertigo speed...

Edit: Click me! And then Click me! I finally got YouTube to obey me, so I might be doing more NN runs...

I honestly don't know. The PAL and NTSC versions of the car are completely different; name, power etc. You'd have to ask somebody else who has the NTSC version (anybody from the US i.e Toronado). But it looks legit, we just can't see the exact speed on the session screen :(. We'll wait for DE

DE,

Do you need a vid to verify the 3000gt speed? With both of my cars I followed all of the rules, i.e. I did not go backwards, I stayed off the walls, didn't use gameshark or etc., I'm pretty sure all four wheels stayed on the ground. The 350Z was set with max rear DF and min front DF soft springs and all the settings that would normally make a car wheelie, but I don't think the car is capable of getting the front tires in the air.

Jake

Edit: Is there anyway to get the final speed to show up after playing a replay in replay theater?

@killer450235: Yeah, it does that. You should see the run with nitrous... It's in my photobucket somewhere. Hey I almost forgot! I was working on the 300ZX! Up to 301.xx at the moment...:mischievous: *runs to PS2*

Well just got done passing my iA driving test!!! Geez they make getting the license on gt4 pretty time consuming. Now I can move on to winning bigger and better cars to push the top speed limits on.

Jake

Mmm, usually I'd make a post saying I'll be away for a few days, but I didn't see the need to pull the thread back to the top just to say I'm not going to be around to watch the resulting increase in activity. Anyway...

He's online now.
God, nothing like blowing my cover, eh pal? ;)

the razgriz, I'm afraid that video is just too low-resolution and -quality to verify a 351mph run in a car that's notorious for small wheelies. The angle and the quality combine to make it pretty much impossible to judge that one.

Nice work in the Vertigo, Macca, that's third place under your control now, keep on pushing.. "only" .52 left to gain :P

Hi there, Jake795. This sounds spectacularly useless of me, but I'm afraid I'm not experienced in either of these cars - the 3000GT seems perfectly reasonable, though. I'll just leave it for a day - does anyone have any particular reservations about the 3000GT record-taking speed? Does it seem particularly unreasonable for a new tuner, or is it a relatively easy car to get close to the record in?

Calling upon the huge experience we have wandering around this thread saves me asking for a video that might not be necessary :)

The Z is a bit easier to make a call on - I can't put it straight on the Leaderboard when it's in that position on the track, you'd need to keep it right over to the right-hand side so that the final camera can see the front wheels. The setup is pretty crazy already, further adding to confusion, and there's simply no visual at all as it reaches its highest speed. So, either PhotoMode close-ups of the front wheels, or a re-run in a different place - preferably both - are what's needed. Unless someone can verify for me that it's utterly impossible to wheelie this car?

Sorry to cut you down on your first post, not at all my intention, but I'm sure you appreciate that over 360 pages of this, I have to make sure every entry is accurate and legitimate :)

Leaderboard Updated
How's that for service? I said I'd be back on the 14th, and you've got the Leaderboard done at 0021 on the 14th :dopey:

DE

most of my re-runs have been around the 300.30's If I can get a good, right hand side of the track, run at a slightly lower speed but still over 300, then would my session speed pic be good enough to list as my top speed?

BTW none of this may be relalvant for very long as I'm currently working to win the Motul race Z. Looking at the stats for this car It shouldn't be to hard to get over 300

Jake

Edit: Just made a video of a 300.39 run. Waiting on it to upload now. I just don't know what else I can do to prove my speed with this car. I guess on this forum you are guilty until proven innocent. I provided the video for proof. Now if someone on this forum has this same version of this car would you please try everything in your power to make it wheelie. It can't be done. Doesn't have enough rear DF. The Motul Pitrace Z has rear DF going up to 70 and you can drop the front down to 20 instead of 23 on the concept LM. It wheelies easy and I've yet to get the gears right to get it over 300
