I entered this time trial the day it started, set a 1:30.3 on my third lap, and closed it. 1m credits in under 10 minutes if it holds for a silver. It's just not worth the torture for gold IMO
It only took you 10-laps to set that time and that is torcher? And on the first day before all these tunes being posted? I would imagine you can shave that 0.3-0.4-seconds off in a few laps for gold

@half_sourly out of curiosity, does your scraper timestamp the top time? Would be interesting to see how the top time improves over the two week period. Like how much time change from first day to last and same thing during the final 7-days. Only if it’s easy and simple to do of course - and if you too are curious lol
You can scrape times with time stamps, but I only have the final results. As an approximation I have extracted the fastest time that was set in the first 2 days to compare with the final time. The real fastest time at that point might have been faster if it was set by someone that improved their time later on, so if anything the below is a slight over-approximation of how much the time changes, but it should give an idea.

Another day, another tenth: 1:28.218 for 686th at the moment

Decided to switch for @W1gglyStyl3 tune, took a few laps to understand the difference between it and @sdi_03.
Finally I made a brave decision to tweak one parameter to suit my style (I never do this!).

I found @W1gglyStyl3 tune very stable on the apex and the exit, but the acceleration sensitivity was dumbed too much, so decided to raise it to "30" in LSD settings and it made the difference without sacrificing most of the stability.

Finally the exit out of corkscrew and the subsequent two corners stopped being "luck based" for me, found the speed there. That section of the track was my weak point for last few days.

This time trial almost has the absolute need for “Kaizen” (Continuous Improvement which Toyota are well known for) than other time trials (except maybe the NSX-R at the Nürburgring) where getting a medal time seems to require more precision making this one more difficult to start with.

Managed to improve by a tenth and a bit (down to 1:28.395) but I definitely have a 1:27 somewhere - it’s just so tedious to get it but I’m happy I improved a bit.

29 flat with this and i still was like 0.3 better if i didnt shat my pants on the last turn, much better than sdi's for me, tomorrow i have no time but hope after tomorrow i can do it, last turn should i take it in 3rd ? 2nd seems not suitable.
Ps: a chart with what gear is best for each corner for this map would be great :)
If you want to look at the gears, I shared my replay to the showcase. Search for tag: thenormsk.

It's 1.4 seconds off gold. I had a Hail Mary lap and feel like hours of grinding for an extra $1m isn't a good trade off, or particularly enjoyable.
I math good 😂

I feel ya. If you’re on that grind to grab all the cars, it’s tough to do anything else cuz I’ve been there. Once you can turn off that urge to get most credits you can, something like this is very enjoyable.

I’m glad I found this thread because it gives me something to work towards and of course all the tips and encouragement. 0%-chance I would have gotten a gold otherwise (please don’t jinx myself lol)

I felt that in my soul. I have the same struggles with those two corners after the corkscrew. I may be giving up 2 tenths there alone. My Mustang wants to slide through these regardless of the settings. And the braking zones are less solid points, but more approximations in space and time due to some kind of quantum flux.

I think for me the turning point was finally just setting TC0 on last TT and forcing myself to keep it off (at least for the TT's). You'd be surprised how quickly you reduce the # of times spinning out or spinning the wheels, but you will absolutely shave time off your laps. I made the move MT back in like June and now it's second nature, so another thing I'd recommend doing.
I've already tried TC0 and it is much harder to control for me. And in fact, without removing that crutch, I could do a lot better if I was able to do a clean lap without gaining and losing time.

I'll set TC to 0 when I'll be consistently doing clean laps, to try to push even more, but for now I am lightyears away from clean laps (and a bit burned out form this TT)

The car bounces due to an imbalance in dampers, in seems that front damper may be close to rear.
On your setup i did 1.28.3 it seems, that he can 1.27.7xx
And as I understand your setup for 0 countersteering.
The car has a lot of torque, but it cannot be realized because of frequent shifting.
But overall your line of thought is correct.
Appreciate the feedback!

If you are having a hard time and only run this for the credits it's prob not worth the time indeed, but everybody has a different perspective on the game, and that's good to see!,, i'm the opposite,
I only did time trial these 2 weeks, i'm addicted to getting my goal time and all those faster guys here only make that worse

I know what you mean. Back in the days of GT6 and its seasonal events I would also use TCS1 quite often, especially when the car was slippery in nature (like Mustang) and the tires were below "racing" grade.
It takes some time to get the feel of the car without TCS, it took me many events to gain enough confidence to gradually turn TCS off and once you get to that point you will not want to go back because you'll notice you are significatly faster.

Don't get discouraged, practice, practice, practice, especially with such a wild animal as Mustang and when you get into some racing car on some future TT you'll notice more confidence with increased grip levels and then try to switch TCS off.

I did a few more sessions over the weekend but couldn't improve my time. Now I don't think I will have any more time before the end of the TT.
I also tried different setups but nothing, within the same session I always get faster and faster close to my PB even several times but without exceeding it and without seeing a single moment when I gain, even by chance, in a single corner.
I did a total of about 500Km, about half of it over the weekend.
I realize that all the advice I read and was given directly commenting on the lap I posted helped, because once I focused on some of the details I became more consistent.
If I had at least seen an improved sector split time I would have gotten a little more motivation, but without that it was becoming a nervous ride and since I didn't have a lot of time on my hands I switched to RaceA where I had some fun.

I don't know if it would have changed much by having more time, maybe it's just a matter that I got very close to my limit, both in terms of my driving and in terms of my sensitivity in appreciating what the laps were telling me to figure out how to improve.
I mean, I don't know whether to see this as positive or negative. I don't want to take GT7 too seriously, it's still a game, but I'd like to see improvements in me in the medium term to keep the flame lit.

Maybe it's just a matter of looking at a longer horizon than the specific TT, we'll see....

Anyway, I'm putting a few positive things in my pocket: I learned the trajectory to straighten out the Corkscrew braking, I realized that I often take the apex in a little earlier than I should, I learned (at least with this car) to turn using the throttle in the first hairpin.

Hi,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news folks...

New gold time of 1:26:346

Best regards to all here.

Ian.
Yep its not looking good for me, I've got a time of 1:28.867 which was 0.4 tenth below the gold time when I set it. I thought I was fairly safe and that we wouldn't see anymore massive drops in the record time, but in just the last 2 days the record has been smashed a couple of times now by more than a tenth. I cant see it lasting another 2 days now, might have to jump back on tomorrow night and give it another crack.

Ok so I own a Mustang GT in real life and track it a lot. The tunes in the game doesn't make any sense compared to the real car. At least for the TT. However the Mustang is very hard to drive consistently because of the very poor stock suspension and rubber bushings. This tendency is the same in the TT which make this one a super fun TT to try. I found this TT last week when training for my first track outing of the season (dropped 1 second of my PB time). So I decided to spend more time on it as it was fun. I started with TheKie tune and was doing 1:28.825 but looks like this wouldn't be good for Gold so i switched to @sdi_03 tune and dropped to 1:28.5 think this will hold. Not sure if the tune could benefit from more camber or not need to try it. Overall very interesting to see the different ways of improving pace with tuning in GT7 very useful. Thanks for the fun guys.

Today's run was better.

I managed to beat my record with about 0.3s in the first lap... and after that it was just worse and worse, except for one lap at the end where I managed to shave 0.03s again (and I had more that 0.3 in advance during the lap but as always, I lost most of it at turn 6 before Rahal Straight.

I could definitely go into the 29s, but not much time left... I see so many mistakes...

My previous best time was about 0.15s lower than the silver time, now I am confident it will stay silver even if some alien push gold again.

Here is the video of my best lap so far :

If you want to comment, feel free too, but I can already see for myself a lot of things to correct, the issue is that I don't succeed in my correction, even if I know what I have to do.
But maybe someone will hint something which will be an enlightment and help me unlock some 10th.

And even most of the people that say this, it was their 5th or 10th time "hopping on". Or they hopped on the TT after spending most of the day playing a different sim or different part of GT.
I'd bet a lot of money that the number of part time players that can set those times is less than 0.01%. Even the aliens you see, their times slowly drop throughout the TT (Albeit from a much lower shelf to begin with, but a lot of the aliens at the top are youtube or WC sim racers).
Getting good at anything takes time. If it didn't we'd all be professionals at everything.

Except the TT car has race suspension adjustment and is 450kg lighter than the street car. Haha. They can call it a sim all they want, but GT still has a ways to go to get there.

You are braking way to much and caring way to little speed through the corners the car can go much faster in any corner also you are away from some apexes and not wide enough (not using the full track). Look into TheKie25 laps and see how much more speed he is caring through corners. Hope this helps.

My car also has race suspension on it and wider tires than stock but yeah the 450 kg lighter is a no go for a street car. My point is that even with the race suspension and increased rigirity on the chassis still you have way to much flex in the GT car model. Just try the same lap with the GT4 or GT3 Mustang and see how much less flex is there.

This right here. This is the tune. The car is so incredibly stable compared to other tunes, I was able to go full throttle so much earlier. In just one lap, I shaved half a second, sitting at a 1:28.3.
Yes yes, I did my 27.3 with this, and the best thing was, I did 20 consecutive laps, and in those 20 laps, I had at least 6-7 laps that were 27.5, 27.6, so easy to manage, just don't overdrive it and you are golden.

When I brake less I overshoot every corner and end up in the sand so... better go slow and clean than fast and bottle every turn.

I'll go faster when I'll have imprinted in my brain how to go through every corner and be able to do as I intend.

Based on the data you captured, if you're trying to get a gold time and you can only partake during the first two days of the TT, you need to aim for 2.6% off the gold time. Doing so would have gotten you the gold 14/19 TT's shown. 2.7% off gold drops it down to 7/19 TT's! Looking at prior 8-TT's the drop in time is a little tighter (2.6% = 7/8 TT's) but the # of days into the TT increased from 8.4-day to 11.1-days.

* random question for the Excel peeps - I'm a strong intermediate user myself, but I'm stumped on this - when I copied and pasted the table above into excel (matched destination formatting so its plain), the numbers were stored as text and not numbers. Tried text to columns and in the past when this has occurred previously (I pasted car prices table from a GTP thread once) nothing I looked up worked for converting them to numbers. Here, since it was a small table I just typed them out and pasted over the original text string, but obviously that wouldn't work with a large sample size. Any ideas?

Hi,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news folks...

New gold time of 1:26:346

Best regards to all here.

Ian.
So new gold time is 1:28.936? I didn't wake up early today, so didn't get a chance to play. I'm at 1:28.981 and I think I'm gonna be sad lol

Each time you put efford in it you will get a little better, so it's not for nothing.
And for your info, there are days that i had 300 km sessions without bettering my time, and i tried almost every day, most of the time in the morning before work, an hour and a half of pure frustration, but...
at the end of the TT, with all tips and tunes from the good guys here i managed to get better and run my target time.
what i'm trying to say is, sometimes you read, " yeah, hopped on, did 5 laps and got a mid 27"...

And even most of the people that say this, it was their 5th or 10th time "hopping on". Or they hopped on the TT after spending most of the day playing a different sim or different part of GT.

Yes, I fully agree, it takes time and dedication.
I am exactly at the point where I don't want to trade effort with frustration. In other words, if I know i can spend so little on gt7, i mix tt and others when I see frustration jumping in, exactly because I do not want to associate frustration with pleasure of edriving.

And that's the reason why i look for the positives i listed.

If I look back i see myself have better results on average and less time needed to reach them, which is good to me

I think right now the biggest improvement i can do is to be more sensitive about what happens to use in the most effective way the time I spend in the game.

Final (funny i guess) note:
I'm young no more, but there is still a piece of me thinking that if someone else can do it, i can do it too.
I know it's child dreaming somehow, but I like to stick with it even though this same child attitude hits delusion for not reaching page 1.
That's me, and I like it somehow.
And usually that small, evanescent, flavor of delusion evaporates quickly to accept the next challenge to reach page 1
