Hey Folks - been absent for a couple of weeks. New assignment at work is ramping up, but have also been laid up in bed with CoVID for the last 10 days (which has been no joke). Between those things, I only managed a 100 mile session in the Alpine which was a shame as it was a lovely combo and I was convinced I could get under 1:21, but finished with that initial time of 1:21.196.

Switched my PS4 on this morning for the first time since then. Time and energy is limited so skipped the Bugatti and went straight to Deep Forest in the Shelby. Only managed a short 30 mile session, but what a super car on the CS tires! Really going to enjoy trying to balance this thing through sector 2… for now, I only managed 3 clean laps, but the last 2 were Gold, and ended on 1:46.8. Lots of time to find and a challenge to balance wheel spin and forward motion, but it‘ll be fun trying.

Other controller drivers, what sensitivity do you use? I’m on 7 but I’m starting to think that might be too twitchy.
I'm always on 10 no matter the combo. I've tried to lower it on twitchy cars like the Aston at Goodwood, but I still find myself faster on 10. Then again, all you guys can tell I'm a weirdo at times with my setup.
I started out at 10 and it felt pretty good, but I was worried it was hurting my straight line speed. Might try switch back for a bit.
I'm on 10 as well. The increased difficulty of making minor adjustments along straights (well and in general) probably hurts a bit. But the increased ease (or rather the decreased limitations) of changing directions makes more than up for it in my opinion.

I'm sorry but I think I posted this post a little too early. I really didn't think I would be able to go under 1'46 but here it is with the time at 1'45'885 with optimal time at 1'45'800

Pretty decent lap really. Pretty sure you can drop another 2 or 3 10ths if you change some of your gear choice for a few corners👍

Thanks a lot my friend. At what points should I change my gear choices?
Turn one: Shift to 3rd right before you hit the apex

Left turn before setting up for the tunnel: Stay in 3rd.

Right tuen AFTER the tunnel: Use 3rd to exit

Left turn before back straight: Enter with 2nd and exit with 3rd

The car has a lot of grunt mid range, no need to use lower gear a lot of time.

Sorry to hear about the illness and I hope the recovery goes to plan.

I'm more than happy with this effort at Deep Forest after getting 1:45.0x a few times but also lots of 1:45.4x and worse. Somehow, despite the poor turn 1, this lap worked out. And as the photo shows, it looks like you only need one tyre on the kerb around turn 3.

Hi,

My ohhh my - This is going to be a challenge for me. Currently 0.3% off a gold time but I am not sure I can find it...

I am either sliding or sliding or just plain sliding - Always in the wrong darned direction!!!

Best regards to all here.

Ian.
Hey Ian, you're doing well, I slide a lot too!

That honk at the end did it 🤣🤣
Nice lap!, im having a normal sized rim sesssion planned for sunday morning 😁🤣🤣

Nice improvement here after tens of laps: 1:47.108  I've gained like 0.380 on my previous PB.
Sector 1: 30.616
Sector 2: 38.297
Sector 3: 38.195

It's clearly the 1st sector where I've gained the most. This is the key for a decent final score.
My 2nd sector is probably not perfect but I'm more comfortable to make the Shelby dance with rythm ;)
And I guess I'm a bit conservative in the final hairpin. I would take more risks when I had secured the gold.

So, still in 🥈 but I'm more and more confident now to get the yellow metal in the next days.

Good evening / night / morning folks, humans and non-humans

There is no way to dress this up Mr Sourly so I will give it to you straight....turn 1 was a horror show, I consulted with my colleagues and we agreed at that point it looked terminal.

Imagine the modern miracle of then putting in that time although again we agree and the image shows you weren't colouring in, in between the lines but just like you we are prepared to let it slide.

;) solid work bud!

Edit: quick question, how are you peeps not getting the massive over steer at the tunnel exit of the first tunnel on the slippery green paint. I can't understand it. I can always be quick enough to catch it but it's so slow to do it that way.

Solid analysis!

Re question, I presume you mean exit of the 2nd tunnel? If so, it is touch and go and I try to combat it in two ways. 1) Go narrower out of tunnel 1 - the right hander - so that you approach that exit of tunnel 2 facing more straight. 2) If I feel it starting to slide, I lift for a split second and that tends to be enough to keep it calm. (EDIT - just looked at my video to see if there is green in tunnel 1, but noticed on exit tunnel 2 I do just that in this take - slight lift on exit)

Thank you :)

Edit: yes I mean tunnel 2 for some reason I always feel like there wasn't the gap between the 2 tunnels not that it makes a difference but visually just put them at the "first tunnels"

Had another go at Kyoto and went close to silver, learning not to brake in other areas. Silver is at reach with a few more laps.

Went back to DF and hated my time there. Not sure I will insist a lot more, I think that this combo benefits a lot of MT use to help with the braking distances. I brake miles before what I see in replays if I don't want to meet Barry R.

I'm getting close to you, Fezzik: 1:47.483 :) (ok out of context, it could be embarrassing).

@Evilmuffin - and everyone who want to help me to join the gold zone - my replay is available in game!
I just looked at your lap. Aside from turn one amd the last hairpin, it really wasn't bad.

The problem with turn one was that you weren't trail braking into the corner. You were at full braking when the car was heading to the apex....the front tires couldn't deal with both turning and braking at full force, so you just understeer badly and miss the apex completely.

Similar but to a lesser extent at the hairpin. You were still wrestling the car to turn after the apex, so you ended up applying power almost a good second late. Trail braking would've helped you rotate the car during the turn-in phase of the corner allowing you apply power much much earlier. I remember you are an automatic transmission player right? Maybe brake a litter bit earlier? But still.....trail braking is important to improve your lap time :D

Take the time to tame the Shelby, it worth!

Wow, I can't express my gratitude for your time and for your explanations. Yes, I'm a AT player (old fashion) ans I'll try to brake a bit earlier.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate all your advices, Mr @Evilmuffin

Deep Forest in one of my favorite classic cars is such a welcome change to the mind melting performance of the Bugatti at Kyoto.

I started off very slow. Just a nice drive through the fictionalized Swiss forest. I gradually increased my pace, not following any WR ghosts or lap study, simply feeling the car out. It's quite nice and even has a predictable slide that is relatively easy to manage.

7 Laps in and a Gold time is set. But I'm a creature of habit and 20 laps is standard, so I would push on. I would go on to set the session's best at Lap 19, well into Gold now.

Tomorrow I'll begin chasing ghosts and watching fast laps and see how much I can quicker I can go.

@Carlos Fandango hope you're feeling better. Sounds like you had it bad!

Have a good Saturday my friend, yes that last sharp left turn at DF always kills my time no matter where I start braking, I don't know how to pass it in a quick manner.

I am gonna give my go a first tomorrow morning, we are supposed to get up to 3 inches of rain and gusty winds up to 30 mph, hope the power is okay.

Haven't turned on PS and haven't seen your lap, but judging by sector times, sector 2 maybe can go faster, and it's usually to nail left turn that leads uphill through tunnel, where sector 2 ends.
