Another night, another 3 tenths (well almost) shaved off :) ... mainly thanks to @Evilmuffin 's advice regarding the 3rd sector! I am definitely beginning to hit the ceiling of what's possible for me though.

This continues to be a very very fun combo for me. Not the best I have ever ranked, but I love the challenge, I love the fact that it rewards me with gradual improvements pretty much every session (I realise this experience is not shared by everyone here), and above all I love how close the race currently is. For example, at the moment there are 8 (eight!) players including myself in my friends list within the span of just 24 hundredths, which is pretty crazy. So come on @peniu , @Jeje6410 , @kowalski__1 , @half_sourly , @SPL170db , @Gogga , @zaxs and of course everybody else: put up a fight :D

Excellent time; Well Done!

Thanks for the motivational nudge, but I'm feeling 'off' GT7 and particularly TTs at the moment. For the last few now I've not put in much effort and just have not felt like grinding a better time. For this Trial Mountain one I've done two sessions of about 50 miles each and won't go back unless I drop out of gold. I did a bit more at Spa, but again am done with it. It is likely I'll carry on like that and just try to maintain my gold streak, until motivation comes back. In the meantime I'm playing a bit of WRC and ACC.

Sorry to hear that. Any reasons why motivations is "off" at the moment, if you want to share?
Anything I (we) can do to bring you bit more into TT miliseconds chase?

I have also found I'm faster with a couple assists I don't usually use. Countersteer assist and ASM seem to really lock this car in for me. I usually prefer them off in cars with downforce but this one seems to really prefer aids. It helps with the snap oversteer for me and doesn't seem to hinder speed. I'm still a second and a half at least from the top times though so it may be slower when hunting for hundredths and tenths...

Have you checked videos posted here that show how to get gold? In that case where do you think you are losing time? If it's Eau Rouge, you don't need to lift off so much there. Also car allows to exit many corners in higher gear and your can gain valuable time there too. Try that.
I have a look at a couple of videos now. I think I'm overbraking into Pouhon/11 and 12, and probably too much on Eau Rouge as well. I'm going to have another go tonight and see what I can do.

Yes, it is time for rallying. I'm waiting for part 2 of my major upgrade (DD Pro 8nm) to jump head first into WRC 10 and EA WRC. GT7 is still great but that's mostly because of you crazy guys hunting lap times... 😍

I've not thought about the cause, but guess it is just a matter of doing too much of it over the past 12 months or so. Certainly nothing concerning or deeper than that; just taking it slower. I'll still try and stay in the gold...

In the meantime EA WRC is bringing me much joy, along with the odd frustration. I'm really enjoying it, despite the occasional screen tear. Mostly doing Moments and racing in what EA call Clubs (this one and this one). Great fun, although I'll admit joining those other communities feels a bit like cheating on the GT7 TT crowd!

I was considering WRC myself and I talked to store support to ask if game supports motion sensor steering and even split screen, that is how my and my lady are playing, and I got NO and NO on both questions so I did not got it. I am not going back to steer with joystick and getting one wheel and rig would just take too much space in our small apartment, not to mention to get two haha... so I will stick with GT7 for now, thanks for your answer and "if in doubt, flat out" ;)

The older WRC Games from Kylotonn should have Split Screen racing as a option. At that time I preordered WRC 10 and enjoyed it a lot with controller on PS4 Pro. Now I have to return with wheel and PS5...

@half_sourly i can understand a bit where you are comming from, and let's be honest, if you want to compete on a higher level as we kind of do here it takes a lot of time and efford, plus all your stat work.
I don't know how much time you did spend on trials, but if i'm looking in the mirror it's a lot, and almost every morning it's an hour.
that makes it, next to the weekly challenges the only thing i'm doing on GT7, there is nothing new left to do either..
and i'm noticing i'm faster getting fed up with things two, max one week of timetrial and i'm on to the next to never to return to the previous.

I would say take your time, but wanted to say that i did enjoy chacing you a lot, your name always hight on the board was kind of a goal for me, which i often failed in  :bowdown:

Recharge and return strong mate!

yeah, I know some rally games have split screen, but as I said they should also be possible to steer with motion sensor steering too, so if you know rally game that meet those two conditions, please tell me, thanks :)

They do: WRC 10 and WRC Generations - and at least in Europe they are both offered quite cheap right now... See ya in the woods!

I don't know if I was half stunned when it happened or if I found a bug....
It seems to me that in the TT session if you keep restarting, when you exit at the end without having a single green lap, it doesn't show you the window with the ideal intermediates.

In short this is to say that in Trial Mountain I have a PB just outside of silver, and an ideal I have no idea of 😕

and I didn't even record my best lap to review it. a genius!

That is how it works, you have to do multiple laps in a single session to get and optimum. The one you are shown in the last session is the optimum for that single session not the combination optimum of multiple sessions.

Session = 2 or more laps
Multiple sessions = pausing exiting and then starting again.

Eg you do one lap and restart multiple times you won't get an optimal as they are "single lap sessions" so the optimal for that session is what you lapped in.

You do 5 laps you'll get the optimal screen showing the best sector for each lap giving you an optimal time

You do 5 laps, exit do another 5 laps exit and do another 5 laps you'll get the optimal for each session

Optimal sadly aren't carried forward which is annoying :(

Pretty good upgrade in my time today. There is more there for me as well. This thing is rowdy. What an awesome awesome car to go as hard as you can in. It's so good at the limit. I saved the replay and I'm going to try and figure out how to upload to YouTube and share here. It's also up on the showcase under #GTP #TrialMountain and my PSN account name is TurboBinder. I dunno how all that works but there you go.
Here's the video of the .300 lap I threw down right before the .078. I'm new to this. I'll play with editing.

Edit: that's not the video I meant to upload but enjoy anyway. Haha! There is a super sweet drift through the second and third turns. Worth the watch.

10 more laps at TM. No improvement, and given the very regular times around 1:57-58 not much hope for improvement by nailing anything, I am constantly and steadily slow. It is not as if I sometimes was able to gain "lot" of time in a sector and it was only a question of consistency to string the best sectors in one single lap. Optimal remains between 1:56.600 and 1:56.800 on all my sessions which is not even close to silver.

Being able to put down power would go a long way to be quicker but I don't succeed in doing so. So I take a lot of time to get to full throttle in most of the sensitive and important turns.

Have you experimented with assists? TC1 or even TC2 in combination with ASM and counter-steering assist reduce the snap oversteer on throttle significantly (it's still not trivial to control though). Also, share a lap here, helped me tremendously in the past.

I'm really tempted to try some WRC with my new wheel as well. Unfortunately PSVR has ruined flat-screen racing for me forever, and GT7 is still the only racing game that supports it.
The original Dirt Rally on the PS4 was in VR not sure if it runs the PSVR2 on PS5 though.

I've got it on the PS4 and in VR it's very intense flying through the woods at those speeds and even more intense when you go head first into a tree 😂

Not sure what assists I have actives but I have at least some.

My lap is shared but not sure how you can find it, I've added the tag #gtp

Very long stint at TM for me today. It's taking a long time to find my mojo each day, which is a little tedious, but when I get it, it's on.

Pretty good progress today, started a little slow but I did at least set a temporary new PB on Lap 2 so I had good ghost to check my pace.

It would take another 20 laps or so to beat that, and then another 10 to beat that.

Lap 34, new PB then again on Lap 35. But my S3 was rubbish and I tried to push on. I attempted until Lap 40, but by now I've become spent.

Miracle Lap looks like a high 1:51 ... Not sure I'll be able to crack that one.

Here's the lap with the VR gameplay. This course looks very fast from first person.

Sorry @Carlos Fandango , looks like I've done it again

I found your replay.

(If you use AT, ignore gear choice)
T1: No need to shift to 6th before hitting T1. Can also brake a lot less. Just drag the brakes slightly so it pull the car left is enough. Stay in 5th the entire way. Braking point seems ok.

T4 (before tunnel): Stay to the right a bit more. Let the right wheels ride on the curbs. Shift to 4th at apex and the car will be a lot more stable during exit.

T5: Brake earlier. There are 2 boulders on the left, brake BEFORE the first one...start with 1 car length before. 3rd gear for exit.

T7: Again, brake a bit earlier...can start braking right after the kink (before the curb ends on the left). Also, brake less but for a bit longer. 4th gear to exit.

T8 (left turn after tunnel): Brake early and very lightly. Basically just touch the brake a bit immediately after you enter the tunnel. You can coast a bit and full power in 4th as soon as the marshal appears in the left. You can stay very close to the wall...ignore the dirt on the road, it doesn't affect traction.

T9: Again, brake earlier....before the yellow sign on the right....start with 1 car length. There is a boulder at the apex to the left, that's where you can power out in 4th.

T11: There are some cones to the left, brake before you hit the last one.

T12: You enter this while you are still braking for T11. Be ready to yank the steering to the right...otherwise the car will still be rotating to the left and you will miss your entry completely.

T14 (Entering the chicane): You almost got it....maybe brake a fraction a bit earlier so you do run wide.

T15: Try to exit in 3rd. There are 2 bumps right after the apex. Make sure you don't apply full power until you pass them.

OK so first of all the lap looks really good to me, there are not a lot of bad line choices as far as I am concerned, just some small stuff that adds up.

The first thing most people here will tell you is to ditch AT - but I am not one of those people :) ... I only recently (mid-December) made the switch from AT to MT, and while it was definitely worth the learning curve and and I would never go back (not just in terms of lap times but also immersion), I started my small gold streak before that and was perfectly happy with my results. Still believe the effects of AT vs MT, while definitely measurable, are over-exaggerated.

To prove that, I ran three laps with your assist config including AT and also shared the best lap, in case you want to look at it or use it as a ghost. It's a 1:54.222, so a safe silver. That's 1.4 seconds below my best MT time, but I also majorly messed up some braking points (e.g. after the long straight at the end of sector 2) because they are simply different than when you use AT. I am sure with a bit of practice I could get within 0.5 seconds of my best lap.

Stuff I did notice when I chased your ghost: I shot right past you at the entry of the first chicane, you brake way too much there. I think this is the easiest second to gain. Just restart the lap over and over again and be brave. You will crash a lot, but eventually this chicane will become second nature.

You brake a bit too late at the last right turn of sector 1 (at around 27 seconds). That's why you miss the apex and accelerate too late on exit. And then the left turn after the tunnel that leads to the long straight you can drive more aggressively, closer to the edge. At the entry of the long tunnel I had already caught up with your ghost again (reset each sector), so that's 0.5 seconds in just 15 seconds. And what's worse, you carry that speed all the way through that long straight.

I don't have much input on sector three. I gained some time there as well, but in general I'd say this is your strongest sector (or probably just my weakest one).

EDIT: just saw @Evilmuffin's reply which is unsurprisingly a lot more insightful than mine :D ... leaving this here for the bit on AT vs MT and my ghost ;)
