Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2025

Footage from GameRiot. First ~70% shows some of the features accessible in the garage / UI, remainder of the video shows driving footage with one battle:

The perk tree certainly looks interesting, it's at least more transparent in how things unlock opposed to the older games' just opening up stuff at semi-arbitrary points.

Also, dang all those remixes are just straight up bangers. The vocals kicking on on the upgrade screen really gave me some early 2000's Dreamcast flashbacks.

That remixed music.

Looks like modding might be possible to a degree. Livery community should thrive, esp. if it's easy for everyone to import others' creations.

If models not being meticulously correct to reality is gonna upset you, I'll save you some time...get out. EVERY TXR game has had odd bits, some worse than others. If the models being off is enough to ruin your experience, don't bother with the game, because I can guarantee you'll find a dozen other things before the third run is over that will upset you.

Personally, I'm tired of looking at molecularly correct cars that I'll never use once. I'd rather have one that has potential to be fun because once I start driving, I'm not looking at the car I'm driving...I'm trying to dodge the BS traffic that spawned just out of sight again.
Molecularly correct? That Eclipse hardly resembles an Eclipse at all. What’s wrong with pointing that out? And have I said that it will ruin the game? No. I’ll enjoy the heck out of this game I’m sure, but that Eclipse still looks like crap.

I'd ask how it doesn't, but I don't care. You didn't point out it looked like crap, you compared it to 25 year old polygons. Does it look like a block of melted plastic? Yes, and the one in game so far looks like it's reheated to try and fix it. Point is there WILL be errors and issues with the cars, and that will irk people that expect flawless perfection. I was not trying to provoke you, but whatever.

Update to the PC specs (unless I missed this, this is new for me)

While resolution info would be nice for 'Recommended', it's good to see setting recommendations.

Minimum requirements seem to be updated now. I suspect I still won't be able to run it on Intel Core 2 Duo...:indiff:

Someone managed to recreate the 350Z from NFS Underground 2's Japanese version, "NFS Underground 2: Sha_do".

Added bonus: The remix of "Clever Drive", which plays when you apply upgrades or tune the setup of the car, is officially my most favorite song in the entire game.

Not particularly familiar with the ins and outs of Ryzen models, but hopefully I've got enough to meet the minimum requirements. I'm happy to cap to 30fps for a bit of extra detail.

Based on that boost clock that sounds like a Ryzen 1600, which combined with the graphics card (which is somewhat better than the minimum suggested 1050 TI) puts you at around the minimum specs; but with how well optimized people are saying it is it may run perfectly fine anyway.

A game studio that actually knows how to optimize Unreal Engine and doesn't just expect their playerbase to brute force their way to good framerates by turning their GPU into a space heater. I guess miracles really do happen.

Looks good and has just enough nostalgia to make it desirable, but I just can't get beyond how... weird the handling physics look. Every video I've seen it just seems like the car is janky and bouncy and not very predictable.

Still, I want this to come to consoles, because it would just feel right for nostalgia purposes.

I don't think there has ever been a good handling TXR game. 3 got somewhat close, but Zero was truly whack. It's honestly remarkable how playable they've all been despite this.

I know, I've played all of them too. ITC in particular was basically an understeer simulator. But from all the footage I've seen of this so far, it looks worse than those.

Jesus...how do I best describe the handling. I'm playing 1 currently, and...overloaded shopping cart comes to mind, at least with the early stuff, I recall the R34 being OK once the tires went on.

Still, something to be said about the consistency of it after all these years.

Having watched some more gameplay videos, it seems like part of it is the camera being kinda over the top in its movement with the default viewpoint. With the secondary exterior view that's pulled back some, the herky-jerky movement is greatly reduced. I suspect some of it may also be down to people not actually messing around with tuning the cars' suspensions, as many of them seem like they're riding kinda high at default.

Also, it seems there's also an auto-cruise feature if you want to just vibe to the music and sightsee for a while. Where was this back in the 2000's when we needed to grind mileage for engine swaps?

Someone didn't know the post race auto pilot remove disc exploit. 😎

Who wants to auto-cruise (or just actually drive a long time) their way up just in case they did add something? I doubt anyone has gotten that high in mileage yet.

Oh I knew about it eventually, but leaving the PS2 on all night to run up those miles wasn't an option so I had to run laps around the C1 to do it. All the more reason I wish C1 Grand Prix had gotten a US release, since I knew the course pretty darn well by then!

From what I've seen around Discord the game barely uses the required amount of system RAM, so it's probably very very overestimated in this case to play it safe. We'll see when Thursday comes around though.
