Ok, well it's good. Really good actually. I can't really see how it will come out or what it really is as it isn't based on a real car, so i didn't want to pass comment in case it was incorrect or irrelavant. Was wondering why there's two types when they're both very similar, kinda bugged me a bit too which aided my decision not to post. Kinda all petty really. Glad to see the toon style coming through :) Finish it 👍

:( i was expecting at least ONE comment.. sheesh :(
Hey, suz, not to go off-topic, but are you a member at www.neons.org ? I'm a (retired) admin there. Would that be a deskunked '98 R/T or Sport in your avatar?

I'm currently driving my '95 ACR. We unfortunately had to write off my wife's '95 2.4-swapped Sport this summer after it drank some water. Drop me a line some time.

On topic - I'm in awe of you guys. I spent about 45 minutes this afternoon trying to trace the rear quarter of my TSX pic. I really can't figure out the intricacies of PS7's pen tool. I figured out about clicking to add a waypoint, and dragging the grips before you drop it. But once the point is down, it seems as if the grips behave differently. And they're so tiny it's hard to see.

I'v read through donbenni's general tutorial. Can anybody post a link to a good pen-tool-specific tutorial? TIA...

These two tutorials are the best I could find, duke.

http://www.gfxlab.com/tutorials/tuts/pentool/pentut.htm
and
http://retouchpro.com/tutorials/?m=show&id=30

Neither matches the way that I do the paths. A path is actually a cubic function defined by the two endpoints and the slopes at these points. So you can "drag" the grips out pretty well on the first try, if you drag the lines out tangent to the curve you are trying to trace, and using the length to control the degree of curvature.

HTH. ;)

duke-- yeah i'm a member there, kind of a newb tho.. i'm more a member of SRTforums.. its a sport sedan w/ a lot of modification ahead of it (srt-4 full swap interior & engine bay + tranny) i'm just tryin to save up enough $ to get a wrecked SRT to start modifying :)

i used to have a white 95 ACR, however it was tragically destroyed by a lifted tacoma t-bone accident. but this current one is a 1998 DOHC sport sedan, as mentioned.. i love the color, so i'll probably stick w/ the stock color when i fix the trunk. :dopey:

That did help a lot. Thanks for finding those and posting them!

I've got the outline all figured out, but how do I create the detail lines?... When I try and use the pen tool to make the line, everything goes smoothly until it's time to place the line... I've tried everything, and no matter what I set the brush size too, it turns out to be a really skinny line, or not work at all... I read both tutorials posted (they helped a lot), but neither really explained how to "score" or place a line using the pen tool... I know this may seem really stupid to the PS savvy, but I just started really getting into PS this last year, so it's a learning process as I try new things...

;)

Assuming you've selected the paintbrush colour and size already, you need to load up the 'paths' window (under the 'view' drop down. Right click on your path and select 'stroke'. Select the paint brush option. And click OK. That's off the top of my head, so it might be slightly incorrect, but mostly it's there. Have you read my tutorial, i'm pretty certain i explain it in there :)

So, you do the girl trick too?

jkrobby, it looks good, really like the chevelle. I'd just like some smoother transitions between at least some of the shades of blue, but that could just be me.

Got some time over to continue on the project today. Really like how the wheels turned out. One thing I'm not 100% about is how to do the windows. Any suggestions? They look decent but it feels as something is missing.. Lighting is not my strongest side.

OK, thanks to a couple of the tutorials and a little free time, I'm starting to get going on this project. Here's what I've got down so far:

TSX_WIP.jpg

It's getting there but man, I'm slow. I'm gonna be sweating when it gets to the detail work like the lights and wheels.

Those wheels look great. Your right, it does lack something, I can't tell ya exactly what it is though. I think when it's 100% and has a background, it'll look great.

Thanks bud. I'll see if I can redo the windows somehow.. Thinking of smoothing out and removing the most part of the top blue sections..

It's those parts who is rewarding when you get them right. :)

Looks good so far, and as donbenni suggested me, put in some thin lines too to get variation in the picture.

GTJ, wow. Lookin sharp. Remove just a few black lines, color your windows like an Option magazine and I wont be suprised if people mistake your work for mine. :D
Great job.

Thanks a lot don, initial and cosmic.

Initial, regarding the black lines I'll think of that if I make another one, this one will stay as it is. But I see what you mean, it could use some variation there..

Option magazine..? Gotta check it out. Thanks.

Do as I do GTJ, study the people who do it best. I dont own Auto Modellista, but I own prints of original artwork that I bought through Capcom and playing guides that contain all of the offical artwork. The Option Magazine artists are another group I studied. Mix that with your own original stuff as I did, blend in other styles and you will find your own.
The way I just described is how I found mine.
How you choose to find yours is up to you.
Tutorials, no matter how good and explanitory they are, its just a map to someone elses style/technique.
