I didn't say I didn't respect you it's just that if you can do a tooned car from scratch compaired to what everyone here is doing then I'll have a whole hell of a lot more respect for you because it's a hell of a lot harder to do one from scratch than existing.

:indiff:đź‘Ť
Where is the dunce icon? Oh, Here it is. :dunce:
I, or anyone else here can just as easily draw a car on paper, scan it in, and with the same ease we could do the same vector process all over again as with a photo reference.
So what exactly is so hard about creating a vector "from scratch?" Because in essence, they are all..."from scratch."

I'm always on thin ice with this but if you think about the idea behind "tooning" a car it's just basically learning a program and then the time it takes to put in detail.

Whether your drawing or in a program try doing a car from scratch, your not going to get anywhere close to how "good" the pics in this thread look. I think Photoshopping takes more skill than tooning just because your actually manipulating something.

Just to cover my ass.. I have done "tooning" (I think I have pic in this thread if not I can post it) enough to know if I concentrated all my time on it then I'd get pretty good pretty quick. Granted there are some people in here that do so much detail that they start too look realistic which is different from "tooning".

I bet I'll make a lot of friends on this one! :dopey:

1600x1200 wallpaper which is a WIP. What do you guys think?
(original)

(WIP, needs rear rim and the rest of the scene)

well i have come up w/ a few of my own cars & airbrushed em in photoshop after scanning em in.. . so i guess that'd be 'pro tooning' in your perspective... here's 'blade':

btw-nice work skip :) good to see i'm not the only 1 doing backgrounds..
Thanks suzq -- I'm calling this done. :D Long live the Grand National!

(criticism appreciated)

If I may, suzq, I think that your 'blade' concpet could be improved by using some gradient shading--but thats up to you. Also some more detail (or reshaping maybe?) of the headlamps would improve it.

here's another one i've been workin on... just started it tonight.. but its my version of the 06 charger production model... SRT-10 style..
chargertoon%7E0.jpg

i just gave it a 1 and a half door on each side, and an attitude adjustment up front.. i think it gets the point across.. comments? (still a wip btw)

OMG Suz talk about reeling out some awesome stuff! Shouldn't have added the lines to the beautiful red supercar, the first one looks great. This line work here ^^ is also real nice. The lines are all really parallel which is very very important for a clean look. Nice one.

For those of you that are interested and didn't see them on my devART site, i've put two wallpapers up that i worked on yesterday.

@ VipFreak: You have clearly never ever created a proper finished piece of toon art. Why? Because you seem to believe like loads of others that it's all about tracing the original piece. Balls.
I'd like to think there is about as much manipulation in tooning than in Photochopping.
I've done both (and i can actually say i have). I've won a couple of the weekly competitions for chopping cars, i took part every week from about week 20 till week 90. You're still left with the original car with some changes to it. You aren't creating a totally new piece.
Now although you are creating a new piece when you toon (as it's all original) it isn't hugely different because the piece looks like the original picture. However when i toon cars i never follow every original line for the outlines and shading etc. I like to simplify as much as possible to enhance the toony look and to move away from the trad vector style. You can add in things just like when you 'chop a photo and the result is generally great. The amount of work that goes into recreating the car in a simplified and cool looking way takes AT LEAST as much time and effort than a 'chop if not more.
And skill wise. Pah. Any 5 year old can whack a spoiler and some rims on a photo of a Bentley and people will say it's 'chopped AND scarely the result could be quite good. But to get something that looks good here.. well lets say that you need at least as much skill to get the same result in 'chopping.

Update: Comments appreciated. :scared:

Will need help with rims tough. :guilty:

Vip, apply for a job in commercial/graphic design and say you have background in "photochopping," a non-form of art, and see if you get a job.
People who illustrate have a large future in design if thats what they seek. Think Im wrong? Write an email to VH1's design department, thats all they hire.

And if you think I dont manipulate (by your definition) anything in my artwork, then you clearly have never seen any of my artwork, seeing as I pioneered the exaggerated vector car.
BTW, vector is all manipulation. The whole process is manipulating paths to get the lines you want.
:dunce:

Anyway, Suz, thats gonna be awesome. Be sure to blow out those wheels and go crazy! Thats a mean lookin ride.

You're absolutely right. You can **** up toons too. It's not like you just run it trough a PS filter. But chopping ain't that easy either.

This is comparing apples to oranges. Or lets say.....art to garbage.
You're right about that actually. Chopping is to modyfi an image. Tooning is almost from scratch.
When we're talking about metafor's, that's like taking Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers' and make it into 'Roses' by you. :grumpy:

I've got this far. I will need some backup with the rims tough :indiff:

well- vectoring is just another way you can alter an image.. like in photoshop you can make whatever your imagination limits you to. same thing with illustrator/flash or whatever drawing tool you use (i use flash).. i'm getting a BS in interactive Media Design... i have a background of over six years with photoshop, and 3-4 with flash, illustrator i've kind of gone away from, because i find flash easier to work with; also- if i really wanted to i could export to illustrator... really- its the imagination of the person using the program.... like iacoski & glacius with photoshop.. and tokyoplastic.com, and 2advanced.com with flash.. and a lot of the graphic design people work in illustrator.. limited by the imagination, not the program.

@ Suz: Looking great. Big chrome rims i hope ;)

@ Zox: If you want, throw me the photo and i'll see if i can create some rims to help you out. Then you can use them or use mine as a guide to create your own (?)

Good to hear. Please don't make this one you don't finish.

We'll se about that. I can promise you one thing though, I won't give this up in favour of some other project. ;)

Suz, that looks nice.

Skip, awesome. Really like the motion in the rear wheel.

Zoxxy, as I said on Digimods, it looks very nice. Keep it up and finish it. It'll look nice, don't care if you haven't done all of it yourself.

Here's my wip:

I seem to have a slight problem with my uploader right now so here's a backup:

Thank you. Although I don't think it's too worthy here with all of these wonderful art creations.
